Chapter 100

S-So Strong!

“You’re doing this because you want to come with me?”

“Kee.”

“Are you afraid there won’t be enough food? I’ve given you plenty. You can find more when you grow up.”

“Ki Kee.”

“Even if you try to explain, you know I don’t understand, right?”

“Kee...”

“Huh? That sounded like you’re scolding me.”

“Kee!”

“You may be cute, but I can’t take you with me. I still have work to do, and it’s very dangerous. Having a burden will make it harder for me to fight.”

“K-Kee.”

“Yes, you would be a burden. I don’t have a dimensional ring for storing beasts, nor did I plan to keep a pet beast. Even though you only eat tender grass or carrots.”

"Ki Kee Kee!"

“It’s true that I could buy a beast ring, but why should I take care of you? Right? If I wanted to become a beast tamer, wouldn’t it be better to choose a stronger beast?”

“Kee!”

“Haha, what? Are you protesting?”

Who would have thought that a girl who usually followed her plans would end up spending time negotiating like this, especially with a little beast that couldn’t even speak her language? Yet, its cuteness and bravery captured Ellie’s attention, albeit reluctantly.

Despite just having gone through a terrible ordeal, the little beast had to make a brave decision to survive. Such mental strength was rare, even among humans...After losing its entire family to an enemy, how many would dare to follow someone potentially dangerous? Most might become afraid of social interaction altogether. But this seemingly weak little rabbit had the courage to jump towards her and even try to negotiate to come along...

Thinking about it, Ellie couldn’t help but find it endearing.

“Ki Ki Kee.”

“I still don’t understand you, but if you want to come along, don’t blame me later, okay? I might take you into dangerous situations. I’m still trying to get stronger to protect myself, so I don’t have time to protect you.”

“Kee!”

“Mmm...Then stay here for now.” Ellie tapped her pants pocket. She didn’t have any equipment to carry the little creature, and she couldn’t hold it in her hand all the time, could she?

The Nocturnal Rabbit didn’t hesitate. Seeing the pocket, it immediately jumped in. Fortunately, Ellie wasn’t very big, so her pocket was relatively spacious. The little rabbit clung with its two front paws, looking like a small rabbit keychain from the old days.

At this moment, the little Nocturnal Rabbit had to endure these hardships for now. It would have to wait until she could buy a ring to store the beast. Only then could she let the little one rest there.

The little rabbit observed the situation around it with Ellie. It felt a bit scared because it had to be in such a high place, but after a while, it got used to it. The little rabbit felt like it could see a much broader view, unlike before when it could only see large leaves and the small burrow that was their home.

Originally, their shelter was very peaceful and secluded. However, a fire had recently broken out near their burrow, making it difficult for them to breathe. Eventually, the leader decided to move their shelter; otherwise, the other rabbits would have all perished.

The entire herd of more than 30 rabbits followed their leader, but they were unfortunate to encounter a pack of Lunar Wolves, which were carnivores. The result was as expected; they all perished, leaving only one alive.

The little Nocturnal Rabbit was curious about everything. In fact, the time when the sun appeared was their resting period because the nighttime was for feeding, absorbing moonlight energy, and performing rituals to transfer the moonlight energy into their cultivated crops. Last night, they decided to move out of their old burrow, so they hadn’t eaten or rested. However, the intense situation had driven away its sleepiness. The novelty of traveling at such a height made it think about the perspective of a large bird in the sky. Perhaps those birds were very happy living such a free life, unlike them, who always had to hide...

It took Ellie a little time before she found the target of her mission—a large wild boar that weighed around 80-90 kilograms. It could be said that it weighed about the same as a pig from her previous world.

She hid silently, observing the herd of wild boars, which now numbered only 5 or 6. She was really lucky to come across such a small herd, as most people usually encountered herds of fifty. Ellie didn’t know if this group was a splinter from a larger herd, but the number was sufficient for her to practice her combat skills!

The Wild Boar Beasts were going about their usual activities. Their large bodies were rolling around in a small water puddle formed by the dew from the previous night, providing them with great comfort. Early morning wasn’t feeding time yet, so these large, furry creatures were enjoying the morning air, completely unaware that an enemy was lurking, ready to take their lives.

Ellie had experience from climbing trees to fight, so she quickly found a suitable spot. This position allowed her to shoot arrows while remaining hidden, and it was a strong tree, sturdy enough not to fall immediately if the wild boars charged at it.

The young girl aimed at 1 of the beasts in front, but before she could attack the small herd of wild boars, she sensed movement through the spores dispersed around. It turned out she wasn’t the only one targeting this herd; another group of people was also aiming to fight them.

The new group consisted of 7people. One of them was a pretty woman, about 20-22 years old, while the men around her were of a similar age. They didn’t appear very wealthy, judging by their clothing and weapons, but they weren’t as poor as Ellie’s family.

“Stop. I think we’re close enough to the Wild Boar Beasts!”

“Really? So, we’re about to get our breakfast?” The woman exclaimed happily, her endearing demeanor causing the rest of the group to smile. How should it be said...On every journey, as long as there was something beautiful to accompany them, the group’s mood significantly improved.

“Mmm, not much longer. Get ready to eat as much as you can.”

“Thank you so much. You all are still so kind to me, even though it’s been 2 years since we graduated.”

“Of course. We’re comrades from the same institute and have always been in the same group. Even though we’re not from wealthy families, our hunting achievements aren’t bad at all. I believe that one day, our strength will allow us to seize a small town and collect tolls.”

“When that day comes...don’t leave me behind, okay?”

“What are you worried about? We’re a team, haha,” they joked happily. But all Ellie saw was their carelessness.

Their loud voices alerted the wild boars, which had been resting comfortably. The boars suddenly stood up, looking in the direction of the noise, ready to fight. These wild boars weren’t like the Nocturnal Rabbits; they weren’t afraid of enemies approaching!

“There are about 4 or 5 footprints of them, and there are 7 of us. We can definitely fight them.”

“So, should we use the usual battle strategy?”

“Mmm, Emson and I will be at the front, acting as shields. The rest of you should try to attack as quickly as possible. The faster we finish the fight, the safer we’ll be.”

“I’ll support everyone’s attacks. My water magic will slow them down for sure,” the only woman in the group said confidently.

Ellie sat with her legs dangling from the tree, watching the group’s fight. She didn’t want any trouble with them. Even if she lost her target for today, it wouldn’t be a big deal. Besides...she felt their fighting style was too weak.

The mere arrival of these people had already alerted the enemy, which wasn’t Ellie’s way. If the enemy knew a fight was coming and had time to prepare, it would only make it harder to defeat them, wouldn’t it?

It was a shame that this group was just a bunch of young, impetuous hunters, eager to impress the beautiful woman with their strength. They acted as if this place was their backyard. Ellie had seen many like them before...those who didn’t believe that carelessness led to death!

It didn’t take long before the bushes behind to rustle, revealing the face of a young man with a monkey-like appearance, peering ahead. They were lucky the boars had grouped together to fight. If the boars had decided to charge at the moment the monkey-faced guy appeared, he might have died right then and there.

“Ah! There they are. There are 6 of them! We’re outnumbered!!”

“Hmm? Outnumbered? There are 7 of us and only 6 beasts. How is that outnumbered? If you’re scared, you can step back.” Hearing his teammate say this, the initially frightened person couldn’t back down now! In front of the beautiful woman they admired, they had to fight with all their might, even if it meant risking danger!

“If it’s too much...should we retreat first?” The beautiful woman suggested with concern. But when the 6 men heard her trembling voice, it seemed to awaken their fighting instincts instead.

“Don’t worry, we can definitely handle this.”

“Don’t think about anything else. Just focus on the dishes you’ll make with the meat. Leave the rest to us.”

“You’ve been with us long enough; don’t you know how strong we are by now!?”

The monkey-faced man was the last to speak, and if Ellie guessed correctly, she figured the woman would want to reply, “It’s because I’ve been with you all this time that I’m scared...” for sure!

“U-Uh, well, do your best, but don’t overdo it.”

“We know! Just support us as best you can.”

Their confident tone made Ellie want to laugh. Would people ready for battle talk so much? Looking at the wild boars, which seemed increasingly annoyed by the noise, one hoof of the large boar stomped on the ground, preparing to charge and scatter its enemies.

Without realizing it...the boar charged. Fortunately, one of the men noticed the situation and shouted a warning just in time. Otherwise, they might have been killed.

“Quick, dodge!! They’re attacking!!”

Bang!!!

One of the young men barely dodged the boar’s attack, causing it to miss and hit a tree behind him instead. The force was enough to easily topple a tree as thick as a leg.

This scene made some of them break out in a sweat. Although they had hunted many beasts before, this was the first time they had encountered wild boar type of beasts. They had heard from others that these creatures were not worth the effort to hunt. But they thought that it might be because of their excessive weight. They hadn’t realized another major obstacle would be the sheer strength of these beasts!

Previously, in their youthful impetuous, they hunted in the Fragrant Held Forest, home to weaker beasts that usually hid from enemies. They commonly hunted List Bees, which had valuable stingers, allowing them to earn some money from selling the stingers.

Their hunting method didn’t require much strength or intense combat. They only needed to be cautious. These bees usually hid in flower pollen, so they would randomly cover flowers with nets to see if any bees were inside.

It seemed safe, but in reality, they lived with daily risks. If they were careless and got attacked, they could die instantly. However, their hunting area was the Green Zone, where List Bees lived freely without forming swarms. So, they would encounter only 1 or 2 bees at a time.

They had hunted like this for the past 2 years since graduating, so they had become proficient in hunting List Bees. Their cautious methods gradually became lax because they believed they could always capture the bees safely.

However, the beautiful woman in their group recently expressed a desire to eat meat because they had been catching only small, bony creatures or subsisting on plants. Emboldened by their 2 years of problem-free hunting, they volunteered to come here to hunt wild boars—beasts that others avoided due to the poor risk-to-reward ratio.

Their initial thought that wild boars wouldn’t be too scary changed immediately when they saw one topple a tree with a single charge.

...They really wanted to go back and question the person who set this mission reward. Given how dangerous these creatures were, why was the reward so meager?!!

Didn’t they realize that the low reward made them misunderstand and risk their lives, like right now!!
