Chapter 98

Special Class Beast 1

Under the cloak, he scanned the area, trying to locate the novice hunter. He wanted to understand the other person’s abilities so that in the future, he could gather his forces as per his father’s orders. There were no traces left on the path ahead, as if the novice hunter had vanished without a trace after the battle.

He searched for a likely path and chose one, then lunged forward. His confidence in the signs of battle he saw led him to believe that the novice hunter had indeed settled down to hunt in this area.

At that moment, his gaze fell upon a patch of grass that showed signs of unusual damage. While the rest of the area was a light green, that patch was brown and withered.

His eyes sparkled with excitement, convinced that the small-framed young hunter must have traveled this way. Unbeknownst to him, as the cloaked man moved forward, a small figure in a similarly dark cloak appeared behind him.

It was Ellie, hiding in a large tree. She used her relatively small body to conceal herself behind the tree. She had also let her tiny spores work to decompose the grass, creating the illusion of a trail leading away, to mislead the man into taking the wrong path.

Ellie knew well what the prince’s mission was. He wanted to complete his own tasks, aiming to gather a strong force as a future power base and to prove his prowess. According to the storyline, the prince would successfully lead his trusted forces to seize the city-controlling stone from a tribe, marking his greatest achievement.

Unfortunately, his first target was Ellie. No matter how hard he tried, she was determined not to join him.

After luring him into a dangerous and incorrect direction, Ellie took another path. Her goal was not to hunt beasts for money; she just wanted to train her body and live as a hunter. Therefore, she wasn’t afraid of frequently changing paths, even if it meant missing out on wild boars...

Her small figure moved more naturally now, unlike her earlier awkwardness. She continued to survey her surroundings through her spores and kept track of the powerful man.

"Phew!" After exerting herself for a while, she felt it was time to rest. Although it was disappointing that her fighting time was limited, there was nothing she could do about it.

Today, she had registered as a hunter and fought the Fire-eyed Yellow Cats. That was already worthwhile. She still had 2 more days for intense fighting. So, her next task was to find a safe place to rest.

Many chose to return to the city to rest, but others preferred to avoid the expenses and rest in the forest instead. Ellie belonged to the latter group, but not because she wanted to save money; she chose to stay outside the city to save travel time.

Moreover, she wasn’t afraid of unexpected dangers. As long as she used her powers, she could detect any living being in advance.

At night, she would let her spores and the Purple Mushrooms act as guards. Anyone who entered the area around Ellie’s resting place would be decomposed immediately... That could already ensure her safety.

The Purple Mushroom didn’t need rest, so while Ellie slept, they continued to work as usual.

With her plan for rest set, Ellie decided to head into the Yellow Zone again. The Green Zone of the forest was often the first choice for setting up camp. Although not many people hunted in the Green Forest due to the poor returns, some still set up camp near the Green Forest. Ellie didn’t want to risk revealing her powers to others, so she would never summon the Purple Mushroom in front of anyone.

The journey took quite a while, not because of the distance, but because of the frequent appearance of beasts. Ellie didn’t want to engage in combat now as it would waste time finding a resting place, until she found a small cave.

In front of her was a modest-sized cave with no signs of life inside. It was protected by thorny vines at the entrance. If it hadn’t been for her spores spreading out to check for danger, Ellie might not have found this cave.

The cave had only one entrance and exit. If she chose this place, she would need to be vigilant about the entrance. If enemies surrounded it, she wouldn’t be able to escape. However, this had some advantages as it also meant she only needed to guard one path, allowing her to focus her attention on the surrounding area without worrying about other routes.

Ellie had great faith in the Purple Mushroom’s detection abilities. Before any danger reached her, she would be able to evade it.

Finally, she decided to make this cave her temporary resting place. Using her small frame, she squeezed through the thorny vines. Some of them needed to be cut to get inside, otherwise, even a petite girl like her would have trouble entering. Ellie didn’t discard the cut vines; she used them to reinforce the remaining ones.

Upon entering the cave, Ellie found it quite dark and assumed it would be cold at night. She decided to set up her tent inside the cave to ensure she wouldn’t freeze to death.

Around the tent and the entrance of the cave, she scattered herbs that repelled beasts. At the very least, the unpleasant smell would deter them from approaching her resting place.

Although it wasn’t yet night, Ellie had no other choice but to get into the tent and rest. She couldn’t light a fire for warmth as it might turn her into the target of the beasts immediately. Fortunately, she could close her eyes and see through her spores, allowing her to monitor the surroundings.

Ellie used her resting time wisely. She ate some roasted potatoes with her eyes closed in the darkness. After eating, it was time for her training. She continued to use permanent power-enhancing crystals for herself all these times. Her goal wasn’t just to reach level 3, so she kept working hard.

The prince who had initially followed her had been led astray into the forest, wasting over 3 hours before finding his way out. He hadn’t planned to sleep in the forest, so he grumpily returned to rest in the city. Although traveling at night was dangerous, it was better than risking his life searching for an unknown person.

Night fell quickly, and nocturnal predators began to appear one by one, searching for food. Many prey animals that had been hiding were eventually caught or managed to escape danger.

Around the area where Ellie was resting, there were also some beasts passing by. It should not be forgotten that the Green Forest where Ellie resided was in the Yellow Zone, a very dangerous area for novices. So, naturally, there would be beasts around.

However, the spot Ellie chose for her camp was truly good. Neither before nor now did any beasts show interest in the small cave with sharp thorns. The uninviting smell around the area also deterred many beasts, which chose to avoid it.

Nevertheless, just before dawn, before the stars had disappeared from the horizon, the situation in front of the cave made Ellie summon her purple mushrooms to her side. She feared that if she didn’t act quickly, she wouldn’t be able to handle the unexpected event ahead!

"Shriek!!" A sharp cry echoed through the forest, indicating fear and danger, signaling that the owner of the cry was definitely prey.

"Roar!!!!" However, the predator showed no mercy to its prey. This was the way of predators: the creature in front of it was food, regardless of how much the prey begged for mercy. Would it let the prey go?

Of course, Ellie understood the actions of the predator and the plight of the prey. In such a forest...encountering a stronger being left little chance of survival. Conversely...if the roles were reversed, and the prey became the hunter, would they let their food go? The answer would be the same.

Ellie used her spores, spread out and rooted around the area, to assess the situation. It was a fight between 2 types of beasts. The first type, the predator, resembled a regular wolf but had 2 heads and 2 tails. Its fearsome appearance was heightened by the sharp teeth protruding from its mouth and its strong paws, indicating it was definitely a physical attacker.

- Lunar Wolf, Level 0: Attributes - These beasts prefer to hunt at night, possessing a strong and agile body. Various parts of their body can tear prey apart viciously. They harness the moonlight to enhance their strength, doubling their power at night. If attacked, they have the equivalent strength of a Level 1 beast.

The attribute information appeared before Ellie. She was already interested in their fangs and claws. Upon learning that their combat power was almost equivalent to that of a level 1 beast, she felt that the opponent was at a significant disadvantage, even though the level of the prey was quite intriguing...

- Nocturnal Rabbit, Level 0 (Special Class): Attributes - These beasts live a valuable nocturnal life and are called "Shapeshifting Spirits" due to their ability to become forest allies at night. Historically, they were often raised by high elves because they could transfer their power to cultivated plants.

What piqued Ellie’s interest in the Nocturnal Rabbits was the information she had received. The appearance of these rabbits looked no different from ordinary rabbits with their fluffy fur and soft white color, while their combat power or strength wasn’t shown at all. If her opponent was such a beast, she wouldn’t even want to fight, as she saw no benefit in training against such small creatures.

Nocturnal Rabbits looked exactly like domestic rabbits, except for their special yellow, gleaming eyes. However, the information Ellie received had an intriguing addition.

Level 0 but Special Class—this was the first time Ellie had seen it! Additionally, there was a reference to “elves,” mysterious beings that had always intrigued her.

If these creatures were truly associated with the Level 5 Spirit Rake, then the existence of those elves must be extraordinary. And if such high-level beings favored keeping these seemingly useless Nocturnal Rabbits, that alone was enough to catch her interest!
