Riley’s POV
Then Ethan leaned back slightly in the chair. "You missed me."
CRACK!
The slap cracked across the room so hard his head snapped sideways.
Silence followed immediately.
Blood appeared slowly at the corner of Ethan’s mouth.
But then he laughed. Actually fucking laughed.
"You always hit harder when you’re emotional."
I grabbed his jaw instantly and forced him to look at me.
"You murdered people you bastard."
His eyes darkened slightly.
"You betrayed your friends for me."
Silence.
"You manipulated my entire life."
Ethan stared at me quietly now.
"You let me think I was crazy while you controlled everything around me."
His jaw tightened beneath my grip.
"And the worst part?" I whispered. "You still think this is love."
Something flickered across his face then. Briefly but Gone almost instantly.
"I did love you."
"No," I answered immediately. "You loved owning me."
I released his face harshly and stepped back. "You hid the mate bond."
No response
"You used Wendy. You used everyone."
His gaze hardened slightly."I protected you."
I laughed coldly."You have no idea what is coming for you."
"And whose fault was that?" Ethan’s jaw flexed.
"You think Gunnar and his brothers are innocent?" he asked sharply. "You think they didn’t manipulate things too?"
"They told me the truth eventually."
"They told you enough to make themselves look better."
I stared at him carefully. Even now he kept trying to redirect blame. Twist narratives. Plant doubt.
God.
I used to fall for this.
That realization made me sick.
"You know what your problem is, Ethan?" I asked softly.
He stayed silent.
"You think everyone else is stupid."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"You think you’re the smartest person in every room."
"I usually am."
I smiled slowly. Then punched him directly across the face.
The crack echoed through the cell.
Ethan’s chair slammed sideways from the force before the restraints caught him.
Blood spilled from his nose instantly. This time he groaned.
I grabbed the chair and forced it upright again.
"You’re going to answer every question I ask," I said quietly.
Ethan spit blood onto the floor beside him. "Or what?"
I held his stare for several seconds. Then calmly picked up the silver dagger resting on the nearby table.
His eyes flickered briefly toward it.
Finally, A reaction.
I walked back toward him slowly.
"You know," I murmured, "if it was some months ago I probably would’ve cried seeing you like this."
Ethan watched me carefully.
"But now?"I pressed the cold silver blade lightly against his throat. "I don’t feel anything."
That was a lie. I felt rage. I felt betrayal. I felt grief for the woman I used to be.
"Where were you planning to run? You think Laden can probably protect you from me? The guards are already on their way to the Tithers town to bring him as well so tell me, what were you planning when you escaped?" I asked.
Silence.
I pressed the silver harder.
Smoke rose lightly from his skin where the metal touched.
Ethan hissed quietly in pain.
"Answer me."
"You already won," he muttered. "Why does it matter?"
"Because I fucking asked."
His eyes lifted back to mine.
Then suddenly he smiled again. "You look beautiful when you’re angry."
I drove the dagger straight into his shoulder.
Ethan shouted.
The sound echoed violently through the underground chamber while silver burned through flesh instantly.
I twisted the blade slowly."Wrong answer."
His breathing turned rough immediately.
Sweat appeared across his forehead. But somehow he still looked at me with obsession instead of fear.
That disturbed me more than anything else.
"You’re enjoying this," he rasped.
I stared at him.
Then leaned closer. "No," I whispered. "I’m finally seeing you clearly."
I ripped the dagger back out.
Blood poured down his arm. Ethan groaned hard through clenched teeth.
"You know what’s funny?" I continued quietly. "I’ve spent quite a while wondering why I was never enough for you."
His expression shifted slightly.
"I thought maybe if I worked harder... loved harder..."
I shook my head slowly."But none of it mattered because you were already broken before you met me."
For the first time, Ethan looked genuinely angry.
"Do you think they understand you better than I do?"
"This isn’t about them Ethan."
"Every fücking thing is about them"
The possessiveness in his voice made my skin crawl.
"You were my wife."
"I was never yours." I snapped sharply. "I was somebody’s mate you stole."
The room went silent again. Ethan’s chest rose heavily while blood continued dripping down his arm.
Then he laughed quietly.
"You bonded with them already, didn’t you?"
I didn’t answer.
His eyes darkened instantly. Something dangerous moved across his face then.
Real anger.
Not performance.
Raw fury.
"You let them mark you."
I looked at him coldly. "And what if I did?"
The restraints around his arms strained suddenly as he jerked forward violently.
"They touched what’s mine."
The words exploded out of him so fast the guards outside shifted immediately.
I stepped closer instead of backing away.
"That right there," I said quietly. "That’s why you lost me."
Ethan breathed heavily through his nose.
"You don’t own people."
"Yes I do."
The answer came instantly honestly from him. Without shame.
And somehow that honesty was uglier than all his lies.
I stared at him for several seconds. Then finally understood something terrifying.
Ethan genuinely believed love and possession were the same thing.
That realization hollowed something inside me.
"You’re never getting out of here," I said softly.
His eyes stayed locked on mine."You’ll come back."
"You always do."
I smiled slightly. Then drove the silver dagger into his thigh."The next time I’ll come back here is to take your life"
Ethan screamed this time.
The sound bounced violently off the prison walls while his entire body jerked against the restraints.
I twisted the blade again slowly.
"You still don’t understand," I whispered.
Blood soaked through his pants immediately.
"You don’t control me anymore."
I pulled the dagger free.
Ethan’s breathing became ragged. Sweat rolled down the side of his face now.
But even through the pain, he looked at me with the same obsession.
It really was a sickness.
"You know what your biggest mistake was?" I asked calmly.
He didn’t answer.
"You underestimated me."
I stepped back fully then. "You thought I’d stay weak forever."
Ethan lowered his head briefly before laughing breathlessly.
"No," he rasped. "I knew exactly what you were."
I frowned slightly.
He slowly lifted his eyes back toward me. "And that’s why I wanted you in the first place Aemoria."
