ONE WEEK LATER.

Riley’s POV

The entire compound went silent when the gates opened.

I stood at the top of the stone steps overlooking the courtyard while guards dragged Ethan, Daphne, and Sebastian through the center of the pack grounds in chains.

Nobody spoke. Nobody moved.

Hundreds of eyes followed them.

The difference between now and a week ago was almost shocking.

Sebastian no longer looked untouchable. His expensive clothes were gone, replaced with dark prison fabric stained with dirt and dried blood. His hair hung messily around his face, and there was a bruise across his jaw that looked fresh.

Daphne looked worse.

Her wrists were chained tightly behind her back, dark circles under her eyes, lips cracked, face pale from exhaustion. But even now, even while stumbling forward between guards, she still carried herself with arrogance.

Then there was Ethan.

My stomach tightened the second I saw him.

He looked thinner. Tired.

A cut split one side of his mouth and there were bruises around his throat, probably from resisting capture. His dark hair was longer now, falling over his eyes while guards forced him forward.

But what hit me hardest was the fact that he still looked at me the same way.

Like I belonged to him.

Even after everything.

Even after the betrayal.

Even after his atrocities.

His eyes found me standing above the courtyard instantly.

And he smiled.

That alone made rage spread through my chest so fast my hands curled into fists automatically.

"You’re staring too hard," Gunnar muttered beside me.

I didn’t answer.

Below us, the guards shoved the three prisoners toward the underground prison entrance.

This time there would be no mistakes.

No weak chains. No ordinary cells.

Cane had rebuilt the underground holding chambers himself after the escape. Reinforced walls. Silver-lined restraints. Magical seals carved into every inch of the prison.

Nobody was escaping again.

Ethan kept looking up at me while they dragged him forward.

Then finally he spoke."You look good, Riley."

The entire courtyard stiffened instantly.

Caden looked ready to rip his head off.

I simply stared at Ethan without reacting.

That smile stayed on his face anyway.

God.

Even now he still acted like this was a game.

The guards shoved him harder toward the prison entrance.

"Move."

Ethan laughed quietly under his breath before finally disappearing underground with the others.

The second they vanished from sight, the courtyard erupted into noise.

People talking.

Whispering.

Arguing.

Some wanted executions immediately. Others wanted public trials.

Nobody trusted Sebastian anymore.

Nobody trusted Ethan.

And Daphne?

People said her name with disgust now.

I stayed where I was for another few seconds before turning away.

"You don’t have to do this today," Cane said quietly behind me.

I stopped walking.

Then slowly looked back at him. "Yes," I answered calmly. "I do."

His expression tightened slightly.

Not because he disagreed. Because he already knew what I meant.

An hour later, I stood outside Ethan’s cell alone.

The underground prison smelled cold and metallic. Light flickered softly against the walls while distant water dripped somewhere deeper underground.

The reinforced door in front of me was massive.

Silver symbols glowed faintly across the surface.

Two guards stood nearby.

"Open it," I ordered.

The guards exchanged brief looks before obeying immediately.

The heavy door creaked open slowly. Ethan sat chained to a chair in the center of the room.

His wrists were locked behind him. His ankles restrained.

Silver restraints wrapped around his throat and chest, limiting his wolf strength completely.

But despite all of that, he still looked relaxed.

The moment I walked inside, his eyes lifted toward me.

"There’s my wife."

I shut the cell door behind me carefully.

"I’m not your wife anymore."

"That’s not what your body said last time I fucked you in that car while wounded"

The words hit hard.

Not because they hurt. Because they reminded me how manipulative he still was.

I walked toward him slowly. "You know what’s interesting?" I asked quietly.

Ethan tilted his head slightly.

"You still think you can control conversations."

His mouth twitched faintly.

"You came here alone, Riley. That already tells me enough."

I stopped directly in front of him.

For a second neither of us spoke.

Then Ethan leaned back slightly in the chair. "You missed me."
