Chapter 112: Chapter 112: The Scholar System’s Guilt

Physical System: [Congratulations, Host. Mission complete. You have obtained a constitution that is permanently immune to colds, fevers, headaches, dizziness, etc.]

Hearing the Physical System’s words, Chloe York smiled. To be honest, she did feel particularly energetic.

Over the next few days, Chloe continued to complete the missions assigned by the Scholar System. Meanwhile, the Physical System and Godly Rich System seemed to have vanished, issuing no new missions.

Then, just a few days before the college entrance exam, Chloe’s Wisdom and Memory Values had already reached one hundred.

Scholar System: [Host, you’re 20 points away from 120. This system really wanted you to reach the genius-level score of 120, but we can’t issue any more missions for you in these next two days! If you had just gotten here a little earlier, you could have made it.]

"It’s okay, I feel like one hundred is enough."

’After all, my Wisdom in my past life was probably only around 80 or 90. Reaching a hundred this time means my exam scores definitely won’t be bad.’

’Sometimes, the more you want something, the harder it is to get. It’s best to just let things happen naturally.’

Scholar System: [Host, you don’t blame me?] The system’s voice was filled with shock. Its previous hosts had always blamed it.

They would complain that it had made all these grand promises when they first bonded, saying it would make them incredibly smart. But in the end, when time was up, they had only gotten a little bit smarter.

Some had even reached 120, but they still weren’t satisfied and wanted to become even smarter.

"Why would I blame you? If it weren’t for you, my Wisdom and Memory wouldn’t have reached a hundred!"

Scholar System: [Because you bonded with me, but I failed to get your Wisdom and Memory Values to 120 before the college entrance exam. I really did try. I issued as many missions as I could and shortened the time, but it still wasn’t enough.]

Physical System: [You just couldn’t pull it off. We even stopped issuing missions for your sake!]

The Physical System teased.

Back when all three of them wanted to bond with Chloe, the Scholar System had been the most aggressive and made the most tempting promises.

And now, it was the Scholar System that had failed to deliver.

Godly Rich System: [Yeah, I haven’t even been spinning my prize wheel.] The Godly Rich System sounded wronged.

Scholar System: [I’m sorry!] The system’s tone was full of guilt.

Listening to the three systems, Chloe felt a little exasperated. She could only try to make it clear to them once more that she genuinely didn’t mind. "It’s really okay, Scholar System. You don’t have to feel so guilty. And Godly Rich System, Physical System, don’t pick on the Scholar System. I honestly don’t think it’s a big deal. Where would I be today without all of you? We’re partners in this, and you all want me to do better!"

Physical System: [Fine. If the Host doesn’t blame you, we don’t blame you either.]

Godly Rich System: [That’s right. The Host doesn’t blame you, so we won’t either.]

Scholar System: [Thank you, Host. Thank you, Godly Rich System. Thank you, Physical System.]

"After the college entrance exam is over, you can all still stay with me. We can keep working together!"

Scholar System: [Host, I might be gone after the college entrance exam. My mission will be complete.]

Physical System: [No way, you’re done that quickly?]

Godly Rich System: [I have to wait until the Host becomes the richest person in the world before I can leave. Scholar System, your mission is way too easy!]

Scholar System: [I’m the Scholar System. Once the Host completes her schooling, of course I have to leave! I won’t be needed in college.]

Chloe hadn’t expected that, but she felt it made sense.

’The term "top student" is used more in high school. It exists in college too, of course, but a Scholar System seems more fitting for high school than college.’

’However, she’d just caught what the Godly Rich System said. It said it would only leave after she became the richest person in the world. So... with the system’s help, I’m going to become the richest person in the world?’

’If that’s true, that’s freaking awesome!’

After that, the systems fell silent and stopped their bickering. Chloe also settled down to study.

「The Kane Residence」

"Uncle, why won’t you let me call Chloe?" Nora pouted, her little face a picture of unhappiness.

The day they had gotten home, Adrian Kane had deleted Chloe’s number from Nora’s smartwatch. He had, however, saved Chloe’s contact information for himself.

"I already told you, Chloe is preparing for her college entrance exams right now, so you can’t disturb her," Adrian Kane explained patiently to Nora.

’This kid...’ When he’d returned that day, his original plan had been to trick Nora into taking off her smartwatch so he could delete Chloe’s number.

’As her uncle, he knew her best. Whenever she met someone she liked, regardless of if they were male or female...’

’...she would call them the moment she had free time, day or night, to chat about all sorts of wild and imaginative things.’

’At first, those people would be fine with it, but eventually, they’d get annoyed with Nora. However, given who he was, they never dared to say anything.’

’They could only wait until Nora lost interest. Then she would call less, bother them less, and eventually stop contacting them altogether.’

’Especially with Chloe’s college entrance exams coming up so soon, he absolutely couldn’t let Nora disturb her.’

"It’s been so long! Isn’t she done preparing yet?" Nora pouted. When she was unhappy, her little feet would swing back and forth.

"Mm, just a little longer. It won’t be long now," Adrian said, hoping Nora would drop the idea. He wasn’t scared of this little rascal, but she could be a real handful.

"Uncle, I promise, I absolutely won’t disturb Chloe! Please give me her number again, okay?"

"No!" Adrian shut her down flatly, with no room for discussion.

Seeing that Adrian wouldn’t agree, Nora grabbed his sleeve and started shaking it, whining in her sweetest voice, "Pleeease? Pretty please?"

But Adrian was completely unmoved by the little girl’s whining. "Nora, I already told you. After Chloe finishes her college entrance exams, I will help you put the number back into your smartwatch. So, let’s be patient and wait, okay?"

"Hmph! Mean uncle! Nora’s not talking to you anymore." Nora angrily flung off Adrian’s sleeve, turned, and scurried upstairs.

Adrian sighed helplessly as he watched his little niece throw her tantrum.

’It’s not like he had a choice. He still had no idea why Chloe was so hostile toward him, why she disliked him so much.’

’That’s why, when Nora got her contact information, he’d deleted it from her smartwatch. He was afraid Nora would call and disturb Chloe at the drop of a hat.’

’He’d kept the number for himself, of course. He’d assumed his little niece would forget all about it in a day or two, but she still couldn’t get Chloe off her mind.’

He pulled out his phone and looked at the number he had saved—Chloe’s number. His gaze remained fixed on the string of digits.

’He could only be patient for now. He would wait until after Chloe’s college entrance exams were over. Then, he would make his move.’
