Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable
Chapter 140: They Can Turn the TablesChapter 140: Chapter 140: They Can Turn the Tables
"I’m at my place. How about you?" Chloe stopped. She had arrived at her guesthouse.
"I’m in the building right behind yours," Evan said, pointing to the guesthouse behind her.
"Really?" Chloe was surprised that Evan happened to be staying right behind her.
"Yeah! I can’t believe we booked places so close to each other."
"I know, right? If only we’d known, we could have booked a place together." Chloe sighed. ’It would’ve been so much more convenient if we were in the same building. We could have come over together and kept each other company.’
"It’s a shame. We should have just traveled here together."
The two of them were lamenting their missed opportunity, which only made Ethan Prescott, who was trailing behind them, feel even more miserable.
They were going on and on about what a shame it was, acting as if they regretted not meeting sooner, without a single thought for how he was feeling.
’Then again, this is my own fault. I deserve this.’
"Well, get a good night’s rest. Tomorrow... want to be my tour guide?" Chloe asked, a little uncertain.
"Sure! Absolutely," Evan agreed without a moment’s hesitation.
"Well, I’ll head in then?"
"Alright!" Evan waved and headed toward his guesthouse.
Chloe paid Ethan Prescott no mind and went straight into her guesthouse. Ethan followed her inside.
He walked straight to the front desk to book a room.
When the receptionist saw how handsome Ethan was, her eyes lit up, and she hurried to check him in.
"Chloe, I’m staying in this guesthouse too. If you need anything, you can come find me."
"I won’t have any reason to," Chloe said, completely rebuffing his offer.
She turned and left without giving Ethan a single glance.
Ethan awkwardly rubbed his nose but shrugged it off, heading to his room with his suitcase.
Once everyone had left, the two receptionists began to chat freely.
"Whoa, that guy just now was so handsome!"
"I know, right? So handsome! And he was covered in designer brands from head to toe. That pair of shoes alone must have cost over ten thousand!" one of the receptionists said, thinking of the shoes she’d noticed. ’If I weren’t on the clock, I’d totally ask for his number. If we were anywhere else, I definitely would have.’
"For real? Over ten thousand for a pair of shoes?" The other receptionist’s jaw dropped in astonishment.
The most she had ever heard of was shoes costing a few thousand. ’Over ten thousand... are they plated with gold or something? So expensive! How comfortable must they be? No, wait, that’s literally like walking on money.’
"Of course it’s true! My ex-boyfriend spent months of his salary just to buy a pair. All for a single pair of shoes. That’s why I say, people without money shouldn’t try to show off. My ex was eating instant ramen every single day!"
"Then maybe this guy also blew several months’ salary on those shoes just to impress that girl."
Her good impression of Ethan vanished instantly. ’So what if he’s handsome? He’s just vain.’
"I don’t know about that. He was wearing designer brands from head to toe. His shirt probably costs over ten thousand too, and so does his suitcase. Besides, look at his whole demeanor. He doesn’t look like some working stiff; he looks like a rich young master. Plus, he just handed us a credit card without a second thought. He’s probably loaded!"
"Oh, really? I guess he really could be some rich family’s son then. But it looked like that girl wasn’t giving him the time of day."
"That’s called playing hard to get. How else would she have a guy like that chasing her? It’s a skill we’ll never learn. Let’s just accept our fate and get back to work." With that, the receptionist turned to her computer and started checking the room availability.
"True enough."
The two of them dropped the subject and got back to work.
Meanwhile, back in her room, Chloe had no idea that the receptionists downstairs were gossiping about her and Ethan.
She was staying on the third floor, and when she pulled back the curtains, she had a view of the ocean.
The beach wasn’t completely empty late at night; in fact, there were quite a few people out. After watching the dark waves for a while, Chloe got ready for bed. She had to wake up early tomorrow to go explore Southbend University.

"Brooke, your father came home and spoke with me. He’s planning to have you study abroad. What do you think?" Alice Cole asked, coming into Brooke’s room.
’After all, Brooke is the one who would be going, so she felt it was necessary to ask for her opinion.’
’If Brooke didn’t want to go, she would respect her decision.’
"Study abroad?" Brooke’s voice was filled with shock. ’I’ve never thought about going abroad. Besides, would I even be able to keep up with my studies over there? I don’t get it.’
"That’s right. If you study abroad, you won’t have to repeat the school year. And when you come back, you’ll have a prestigious foreign degree. Isn’t that better than staying here and repeating a grade?" Alice explained.
Brooke fell silent. ’It’s true, going abroad would be better than repeating the year. Plus, I could get away from all this for a while.’
After a moment of thought, Brooke looked at Alice again. "Mom, did Dad really say this?"
She needed to confirm if her suspicions were true.
"Yes, it was his idea."
Brooke lowered her head, not saying a word, her spirits clearly dampened.
’I knew it. Dad is ashamed of me. He wants to send me far away, so he’s just shipping me off to another country.’
"What is it, Brooke? If you have something on your mind or any worries, you can tell me," Alice said, noticing something was off and softening her tone.
"Mom... does Dad hate me now?" Brooke asked, her voice low. She looked like a sad, abandoned puppy.
"Why would you think such a thing?" Alice was surprised Brooke would think that. ’She’s Miles’s biological daughter. How could he possibly hate her? If he were to hate anyone, it should be Chloe!’
"If that’s not it, then why would Dad want to send me abroad? I’m the one who scored a zero on the college entrance exams. How could I possibly study abroad? What school would even accept me?"
Brooke instinctively felt that if her father was the one to suggest it, it must mean he was sick of her. He didn’t want to see her, so he was sending her abroad where he wouldn’t have to bother with her anymore.
"Oh, Brooke, you’re overthinking this. How could your father possibly hate you? He wants to send you abroad for your own good. You’ve seen all the things people are saying about you online. For now, sending you away is the best solution."
"Don’t you worry. You are our biological daughter. How could we ever not want you? If we didn’t want you, we never would have brought you home in the first place. Besides, what kind of parents don’t dote on their own child?"
Hearing Alice’s words, Brooke relaxed. "Okay, I’ll do as you both say." ’If it’s really for my own good, then of course I’m willing to go along with it.’
"Good. Don’t worry, Brooke. When you come back, we’ll definitely be able to turn things around."
Alice was confident that Brooke had it in her. ’After all, how could a daughter of mine possibly be inferior to Chloe?’
Brooke nodded. ’She’s right,’ she thought. ’I can do this. I’ll definitely make a comeback.’
