He always had bad luck whenever he was around that brat. There was no doubt about it. That child was definitely the reason the auction had been discovered.
“Did that brat open his mouth again?”
He had told him over and over not to say a word! Whenever the child opened his mouth, something strange happened. Perfectly good items would break, windows would shatter...
“Sh*t!”
I should’ve cut out his tongue and made sure he could never speak again!
He only left that boy alone because he didn’t want to damage his value. Maybe that was his mistake.
Splat.
The director spat on the floor and let out a long sigh, his temper rising. If only those brats were here... he could at least take his anger out on them.
They aren’t saying anything they shouldn’t, are they?
His expression darkened as he remembered the orphanage children. The soldiers had taken them away to keep them safe until the investigation was over.
Meow.
Director Jerry was walking alone down the orphanage hallway when an unfamiliar sound made him stop.
“Hm?”
Something was leisurely approaching him before stopping in his path, as though blocking his way.
“What’s with this cat?”
It was a white cat with red stripes. The director instinctively flinched when the cat sat down and stared up at him.
What the hell? Why is this giving me the creeps?
Annoyed by his own reaction, he frowned and muttered a curse.
Now even some lousy stray is getting on my nerves!
“You picked the wrong guy.”
A nasty smile spread across the director’s face as he approached the cat. He just found something to take his anger out on.
Yet, the cat didn’t move an inch. It was simply staring at him.
The director felt another chill at that gaze, but he forced himself to ignore it.
“You damn cat...!”
Whoosh!
“—!”
Intent on kicking the cat with all his strength, Director Jerry lunged forward and swung his leg. But his entire body suddenly froze.
“U-uwaaaaaaah!”
The cat instantly grew to an enormous size and pounced on him.
The last thing Director Jerry saw before passing out was himself being swallowed into the cat’s gaping, pitch-black maw.
***
“Ugh...”
Director Jerry slowly pushed himself upright, his head throbbing like it might split open.
When did I pass out?
“Was... was that a dream?”
Maybe it’s because I’ve had too much on my mind lately. I must be having all kinds of bizarre dreams.
He was sure that what he’d just experienced had to be a dream. Otherwise, it made no sense. How could a cat suddenly grow huge and swallow him whole? There was no way that could’ve really happened...
“...Where am I?”
Pressing a hand to his aching head, Director Jerry looked around. That was when he realized just how unfamiliar his surroundings were. He’d never seen this place before.
“Why... is it so dark?”
The space was shrouded in darkness. There was nothing around him except for endless blackness. Another chill ran down Director Jerry’s spine. It was the same feeling he’d had when he met the cat’s eyes earlier.
Something strange and sticky seemed to coil around his entire body.
[Wow, mister. You’re something else.]
“......! Wh-who’s there?”
A strange voice suddenly rang out. He whipped his head around and saw a woman standing nearby, surrounded by a bright light that illuminated only her.
[It’s rare to see a soul this rotten before I even had the chance to curse it.]
The woman’s bizarre appearance made Director Jerry instinctively take a step back.
What the hell? Who is this woman? And what is she wearing? H-Her thighs are completely exposed!
[Impressive.]
Whoosh!
“Eek!”
The woman suddenly appeared right in front of him. She leaned in close, her face inches from his as she smiled. Director Jerry dropped onto the floor.
“W-who are you?!”
[Me? Well, if you must know...]
The woman leaned close to his face again and flashed him a crooked grin.
[I’m the one who’s going to stain your soul with all the karma you’ve accumulated.]
“...What?”
What the hell is she talking about? Karma? Soul?
Director Jerry couldn’t make sense of a single word she was saying.
She’s completely insane.
From her clothes to her behavior, everything about her seemed abnormal.
[Do you know what happens when a soul is stained by a curse?]
As though she couldn’t care less what he was thinking, the woman stepped back and curled her lips into an even wider smile.
[Your life becomes hell.]
“You crazy b*tch, what the hell are you talking about... Argh!”
Director Jerry’s furious outburst was cut short when the woman suddenly planted her foot on his head. She pressed down repeatedly with the sharp heel of her shoe, drawing a scream of agony from him.
[Looking at the state of your soul, you’re already headed straight for hell. But that’s something you’ll have to worry about after you die.]
“Urgh!”
Press. Press.
Director Jerry struggled to get away from her, but strangely, he couldn’t muster any strength. It was as if his body simply refused to obey him.
[I wonder what’ll happen when a curse is placed on a rotten soul like yours. Aren’t you curious? Right? Right? Well, listen anyway.]
The woman continued to giggle.
[Your life becomes hell. That’s all.]
After stomping on Director Jerry for a while, the woman finally stepped back and crouched down to meet his gaze.
[Don’t worry too much, mister. The curse I’m about to put on you won’t do much if you haven’t done anything wrong. If you’ve built up enough good karma, it might even bring you some luck. Though, looking at the state of your soul, I doubt that’ll happen.]
“W-what...?”
Director Jerry still couldn’t understand a thing. A curse? Karma? What was she talking about? And why was she doing this to him?
[Oh, don’t think too hard about it. You don’t look smart enough to handle it anyway.]
Pat, pat.
The woman gently patted him on the head.
[Just remember this. You’re going to hell when you die. So even if your life becomes hell, don’t think killing yourself will get you out of it. Hell will be waiting for you there too. Whether you want to suffer through it alive or dead, that’s your choice.]
“...Hell?”
That single word echoed clearly in his mind. A chill ran through him again.
“Why are you doing this to me?!”
[I told you. It’s your karma. If you’d lived a good life, none of this would’ve happened.]
The woman glanced around at the darkness and clicked her tongue. She took another step back from Director Jerry.
[Well, let’s begin.]
“W-what are you going to do...?!”
Whoosh!
The woman suddenly blew through her lips, sending a cloud of black powder spilling out. It covered Director Jerry from head to toe.
“What is this...?!”
Jerry recoiled and frantically tried to brush it off, but the black powder quickly seeped into his body and vanished.
[See you later, mister.]
“W-wait! What did you do to me...?!”
[Oh, and you little sh*t.]
“—!”
[If you speak to me informally again, I’ll kill you. I may look young and pretty, but I’m much older than you. Are you b*stard trying to get yourself killed? Tsk.]
“Eek!”
Director Jerry was about to grab her, but he quickly backed away when he saw the woman glaring coldly at him with both middle fingers raised. An icy aura radiated from her.
[Bye~]
As though she hadn’t just threatened him, the woman suddenly broke into a bright smile and waved cheerfully. Director Jerry could only stare in a daze until she vanished completely.
“W-what... what the hell is going on...?”
The moment she disappeared, the darkness closed in around him once more. How am I supposed to get out of here?
Just as he let out a long, hopeless sigh...
Slither.
“W-what?!”
Something crept up from his toes. Jerry looked down and recoiled in horror. Strange creatures were wrapping themselves around his body as they climbed higher.
“A-aaargh!”
Then, they began tearing into his flesh. Overcome by the unbearable pain, Director Jerry thrashed violently.
