Rosalie:

I almost let out a startled gasp when Zaiden suddenly slid one arm beneath my knees and the other around my back before lifting me as though I weighed absolutely nothing.

The movement happened so unexpectedly that instinct took over before my brain could catch up. My arms immediately circled around his neck while my legs wrapped around his waist to steady myself.

Heat instantly rushed to my face when I realized the position I had just put myself in, but Zaiden didn’t seem the slightest bit bothered. If anything, he adjusted his hold on me with practiced ease before carrying me across the room toward the sitting area by the glass wall.

Every steady step somehow made my heartbeat louder. He lowered himself onto one of the large couches without loosening his hold, settling me comfortably on his lap as I continued straddling him. Before I could even decide whether I should climb down, Eiden quietly walked over and took the couch right beside us, sitting close enough that our knees nearly touched.

And suddenly I found myself once again surrounded by both of my mates, and my wolf sighed in complete satisfaction while I silently questioned whether my poor heart would survive this evening.

For a few peaceful seconds, none of us spoke. I rested one hand against Zaiden’s shoulder while trying very hard not to become overly aware of how warm he felt beneath me. His arms remained around my waist, secure but never restrictive, almost as though he was silently telling me that I could leave whenever I wanted.

Then, without the slightest warning, he looked directly into my eyes and asked, "Do you want me to take care of those three idiots?"

He never mentioned their names. He didn’t need to. I knew exactly who he meant - Alastor, Darien, and Kaiser. And after everything I had come to know about Zaiden, I also knew exactly what he meant by taking care of them.

Instead of being horrified like I probably should have been, I burst into soft laughter.

The sound surprised even me.

I shook my head while trying to stop smiling and asked, "Why are you so obsessed with killing people?"

To my surprise, Zaiden actually looked... offended. Almost as if he was mildly sulking. His brows lowered ever so slightly, and the tiny change somehow made one of the most intimidating Alphas in existence look unexpectedly adorable. If someone had told me a few months ago that I would one day think Zaiden Nightfang looked cute, I would have laughed right in their face.

He looked at me with complete seriousness and answered, "Because it is usually the simplest solution to troublesome people."

That only made me laugh harder.

Eiden leaned back against the couch, watching both of us with clear amusement dancing in his blue eyes before he shook his head and said, "Don’t let him fool you. Zaiden enjoys suggesting killing as the first solution to almost every problem, but it isn’t what he actually does. Unless there truly is no other choice, he doesn’t go around killing people."

Zaiden glanced sideways at his friend, looking thoroughly unimpressed by the attempted defense. Then he returned his attention to me as though Eiden hadn’t spoken at all.

"I meant exactly what I said," he replied calmly. "For you..." His gray eyes never left mine. "...I can give up my life and can also take someone’s life."

My smile disappeared. Not because his words frightened me. But because I realized he meant every single one of them.

Before I could even begin processing that confession, Eiden spoke again, "Then just count me in with him."

I turned toward him so quickly that I almost gave myself a whiplash. "You?" I asked in complete disbelief. "You are a healer, Eiden!"

His lips curved into the smallest smile, and he held my gaze as he responded. "I never said I am the good kind."

I stared at him. Then at Zaiden.

These two men, they were absolutely insane. There wasn’t the slightest hint of joking in either of their expressions. They weren’t saying these things to impress me or make themselves sound heroic. They simply... believed them. The realization warmed and unsettled my heart at exactly the same time.

A long silence settled over us.

I found myself studying their faces one after another. The unwavering certainty in Zaiden’s eyes and the quiet calm resting behind Eiden’s smile, neither of them expected anything from me in return for what they had just said. And that somehow made their words even heavier.

Unable to keep the question inside any longer, I finally asked softly, "Why are you both so good to me?"

Neither of them answered immediately. They exchanged a brief glance. Not one of uncertainty, but almost as though silently deciding who should answer first.

To my surprise, neither brushed the question aside by reminding me that I was their mate. Neither told me I should already know the answer. Neither acted as though the question itself was silly. Instead, they both looked at me with complete seriousness.

Zaiden spoke first. "Because I love you."

The simple words seemed to echo throughout the room. Before I could even react, Eiden nodded once and added quietly, "So do I."

My breath caught.

There had been confessions before. Hints. Actions. Even promises. But hearing those three words spoken aloud so openly still made my chest tighten.

I searched both of their faces, hoping to find hesitation. There wasn’t any. No uncertainty. No doubt. Only quiet conviction.

I swallowed slowly. Then asked the only question my heart seemed capable of forming.

"...Why?"

Both of them remained silent for a long moment.

I looked from Zaiden to Eiden and back again before whispering, "Why do you love me?"

The room fell completely quiet once more as they continued looking at me, each seemingly searching for the right words.

And somehow... I realized I wanted to hear every single one of them.
