Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!

Chapter 22: Departure, A New Level 4 Treasure Chest

Ye Qiyan made several trips, transporting most of the food and various seasonings from the kitchen. He hadn't forgotten there were still two living people in the manor, so he didn't take everything.

On his final departure from the manor, the old butler who had been standing by the iron gate suddenly called out to him. "Reverend!"

Ye Qiyan stopped and turned around. He saw the old butler leading the insane security guard, both bowing to him. "Reverend, thank you for saving our lives. If there's ever an opportunity, I will surely repay you. Please take this."

"Ah, don't misunderstand - I'm not implying you've made too many trips. You could empty the entire manor for all I care. I just remembered this now, and would regret it if you left without receiving it." Fearing Ye Qiyan might overthink, the old butler explained further as he handed over a wooden box tied with ribbon.

"What's this?" Ye Qiyan opened the box and looked slightly surprised at its contents.

The old butler shook his head and sighed in response: "Judging by your expression, you must know about RUN Company. This is the currency used in transactions with them. With these coins, you can buy anything from them. The master collected them for many years, yet only acquired these three. Since the master is dead now, I'd rather give them to you, Reverend, as a small token of gratitude for saving our lives."

Indeed. Inside the box were three Train Coins. But what surprised Ye Qiyan more was a name - RUN Company. This organization that appeared in Doomsday Town wasn't just background setting after all? Would he encounter this company at other stations in the future? Just how vast was this organization?

Unable to figure it out, and lacking further information to support speculation, Ye Qiyan returned to the train for the last time. Discarding his raincoat, he smiled at the accumulated food and assortment of pots and pans. Overthinking was useless - better focus on staying alive.

Storing these items in the train's storage unit meant no worries about spoilage. Setting up a grill inside the train, he placed a thick premium steak on it, preparing his first proper warm dinner since arriving in this world.

[Purified Earthbound Object] (Level 3)

[Can be placed anywhere on train to ward off evil spirits]

[Soft Ruby] (Level 1)

[Valuable - certain beings might purchase with Train Coins? Can be used for ruby-colored train paint job]

"Would anyone actually buy this with Train Coins?" Tossing the gem aside, Ye Qiyan pondered before sublimating the skull.

[Stamina: 56→49] [Spirit: 90→50]

Invisible energy enveloped the skull. In an instant, his stamina and spirit were depleted. The object in Ye Qiyan's hand no longer resembled a skull, but had transformed into a perfectly smooth glowing jade stone.

[Pure Earthbound Stone] (Level 4)

[Place anywhere on train to enable evil spirit dispersion. Nullifies all evil spirit powers below its level and automatically absorbs negative effects targeting the conductor]

The sublimated object's abilities had qualitatively leaped forward. While both could dispel evil spirits, the Level 4 stone added negative effect absorption and immunity to spirits below Level 4. Meaning before reaching Level 5, he'd face no danger from supernatural stations.

Most importantly, Ye Qiyan didn't sense this stone's potential was exhausted. It could still undergo further sublimation.

Departure Countdown [00:42:45]

While enjoying his steak, Ye Qiyan heard noises from the collection station. Looking over, he saw WALL-E emerging from the hole below, carrying a bloodstained gift box. The robot wobbled over and presented it.

[Level 3 Treasure Chest] (Can be opened)

"Good job WALL-E, I'll get you some oil later." Unable to understand, WALL-E simply returned silently to the collection station to hibernate.

"Then it's time to leave." With WALL-E bringing back the treasure chest, there was no reason to remain. "Depart."

[Rights Activated]

The train started, gradually accelerating through the void, emerging from one expanse of dark thunderclouds to another as Ye Qiyan returned to the endless wilderness.

[All survivors have left Station 4!]

[Station chat function activated!]

[Newcomer's inherent hidden module [Beginner's Protection] deactivated]

[From now on, monsters will attack trains during daytime too]

As the announcements faded, the chat room exploded with activity:

["Fucking hell! Are they trying to kill us? Monsters at night AND day now? No sleep allowed? Just say you want me dead instead of torturing me!"]

["Heh, still don't get it? This world wants us dead - never planned to give us a way out"]

["Huh? Weird. Even Level 2 trains should've left awhile ago. Why only now?"]

["You suggesting someone reached Level 3? Don't kid yourself. See how many materials Level 3 requires? Impossible to gather that fast. Probably just delayed announcements."]

["Exactly! No way anyone collected that much so quickly. I'll eat my words if someone did!"]

["Tch. Daytime monsters now, but I'm running low on bullets. Gun-selling bro, you there? Got more bullets? I'll trade bug meat! High protein, tastes like beef!"]

["Ew! You Bear Grylls or something? Eating bugs?"]

Complaints and discussions abounded. After four stations, survivors had been forced to accept this world's cruelty. Few raged at the announcements - they'd exhausted their anger.

Station 4's death toll was slightly lower than Station 3's.

[3455/10000]

Fewer than a thousand deaths. Cause for celebration? Yet the chat scroll speed had undeniably slowed from the beginning.

Ignoring this, Ye Qiyan focused entirely on the box in his hands. "Sublimate."

[Stamina: 63→33] [Spirit: 70→45]

[Level 4 Treasure Chest: Can be opened]

Spearing a steak piece with his fork, Ye Qiyan wiped his hands. Last Level 4 chest gave the Watchtower - hopefully this one wouldn't disappoint.

[Opening Level 4 Treasure Chest]

[Obtained Train Coins: 8]
