Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!
Chapter 21: The Almighty God Is Hungry“What do you mean by that curse you mentioned?”
The old butler was a little stunned as he looked at Ye Qiyan’s young face, which showed no trace of fear.
“Aren’t you afraid?”
Ye Qiyan stood up and looked toward the solid wood stairs leading to the upper levels of the castle.
“Forgot to tell you, besides being a police chief, I also work part-time as a priest. Since something like this has happened, of course, I won’t leave easily.”
He pulled out the Mithril Sanctuary Cross from his chest pocket.
The gentle holy light dispelled the surrounding darkness, and within that glow, Ye Qiyan seemed like the spokesperson of a deity.
The old butler’s mouth dropped open. He rubbed his eyes hard, staring at the young man in disbelief.
He was stunned for a long moment. Only after the light faded and Ye Qiyan cleared his throat did he finally regain his senses.
With the part-time priest identity, Ye Qiyan quickly learned the secrets of this manor from the old butler.
The first owner of this manor was secretly a bloodthirsty madman. Once, a prey escaped to the police station, and the manor owner used his own maid as a scapegoat, throwing her into prison. She was tortured for days by the corrupt police chief who conspired with the manor owner, forced to confess, and executed by shooting.
In the following days, the manor was engulfed in thunder and rain. All contact with the outside world was completely cut off. When the storm passed, the vegetable delivery boss found that everyone in the manor had died unnatural deaths, including the police chief who had an affair with the manor owner's wife at that time.
Over the next thirty years, the manor changed hands more than a dozen times, with each owner dying a violent death on a rainy night.
The current owner, Ravi, did not believe in ghosts or gods. Although wealthy, he was a miser. When he learned about such a huge manor being sold cheaply and tax-free, he bought it immediately.
And then...
“As you see, rainy nights, communication cuts, deaths... The only difference is that we successfully contacted an outside police station and brought you here. Maybe, you really can break the curse.”
“Where did that maid die? I mean the first owner’s maid.”
“Probably in the clock tower at the highest point of the castle.”
Ye Qiyan already knew what to do.
The so-called curse was probably something like a restless spirit bound to the land.
As long as his cross could defeat that spirit, this mission would be easily solved.
He didn’t think about what would happen if he failed; it was pointless.
Carrying an oil lamp, Ye Qiyan followed the old butler up the castle stairs.
The cold, damp air echoed through the castle. The dripping sound of leaking rainwater added an eerie color to the atmosphere.
When they reached the highest level—the clock tower—the cross in Ye Qiyan’s palm began to emit bursts of heat unconsciously.
“It’s here.”
The old butler dared not enter. Ye Qiyan gritted his teeth and stepped into the clock tower alone.
The moment he entered, he immediately felt something lock onto him and rush toward him at high speed.
“Coming so fast? Get lost!”
The Mithril Sanctuary Cross released a soft light, illuminating the clock tower.
A piercing scream shattered the night sky.
Clang—
Ye Qiyan lowered his head and saw a smooth, translucent skull fall at his feet.
“...?”
Just over?
Ye Qiyan felt it was unreal. He pinched his thigh. It hurt. He wasn’t dreaming, nor hallucinating.
He searched around a little more but found nothing except that smooth skull.
In other words, it was really over.
Looking at the cross in his hand, Ye Qiyan suddenly felt that he might have underestimated it a little.
Without a doubt, this task station was absolutely dangerous for anyone else to explore.
But it happened to be Ye Qiyan who came, and he had the sublimated sanctuary cross in hand.
Think about it—if he didn’t have the sublimation ability, if he hadn’t transformed the level 2 Mithril Cross into the current Sanctuary Cross, he wouldn’t have had any means of resistance against such strangeness.
“Phew...”
Ye Qiyan exhaled deeply. In any case, although this station seemed to end so abruptly, what’s wrong with that?
He picked up the smooth skull from the ground. Although he didn’t know what it was used for, since it popped out, there was no reason not to take it.
“You’re out?”
The old butler waiting outside wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. Hearing sounds from inside the clock tower and seeing the skull in Ye Qiyan’s hand, he was so frightened he stepped back several paces.
“No need to be afraid. The curse in this manor is resolved. This skull is the curse’s core.”
“God bless, God bless. Thank you for coming to save us!”
After leaving the top floor with the old butler, the thunderstorm outside still showed no sign of weakening, which was normal. A restless spirit that could be killed instantly was not the cause of the storm.
On the contrary, it was the storm that created the restless spirit.
The manor’s seal was lifted. Ye Qiyan had no immediate plan to leave.
How long had it been? Less than an hour.
Where was this place?
A wealthy man’s manor.
Though there were no weapons or train coins, there was something else important that no other station had.
Food.
Not compressed biscuits, but real vegetables and meat.
Although White Forest Fruit was delicious, eating it every day would get tiresome.
As a normal human, Ye Qiyan missed regular meals.
“Mr. Priest, this is your reward for saving us.”
The old butler took a pure red gemstone from the safe.
“This treasure was obtained by the owner when he was young, priceless, and the most precious thing I know in this manor. Please don’t refuse it, priest. Of course, if you like anything else in the manor, you can take it freely, since there’s no longer an owner.”
That last sentence was exactly what Ye Qiyan wanted to hear.
He accepted the gem and casually weighed it in his hand.
It was smooth and cool, like a piece of ice.
“I’ll be heading down the mountain soon, but before that, I need to restock some supplies. Can I take some food and water with me?”
“Of course.”
Entering their kitchen, Ye Qiyan saw the fridge stocked with fresh meat, eggs, and vegetables. He filled his backpack and hurried toward the train.
Making a round trip every twenty minutes, he dropped off the supplies in the train and immediately returned.
The old butler, who was tying up the crazed security guard with a rope, was startled by Ye Qiyan’s sudden return.
“Mr. Priest, is there still a problem with the curse?”
“No problem. It’s just that the Almighty God is hungry, so I’m bringing some food back. No problem, right?”
