Train Survival: I Can Evolve Everything!
Chapter 53: The Ninth Stop - Screaming VillageThe next day
Outside the train windows, a terrifying blizzard had painted the entire wilderness white.
The wilderness transformed into a snowfield, where countless snowfield monsters suddenly appeared, chasing the train.
Snow wolves, snow demons, snow spirits...
Their appearance brought crisis to train conductors still operating level 2 trains.
Some couldn't upgrade and simply gave up waiting for death, some spent all their wealth barely reaching level 3, some could only enhance their wheels for slight acceleration, while others managed to purchase various acceleration devices to escape this calamity.
Even so, facing these conductors who barely met the minimum speed threshold, the monsters fought desperately, leaving some unlucky trains riddled with holes.
Not only that.
The raging blizzard caused temperatures inside and outside the trains to plummet to minus thirty degrees. Without thick clothing for warmth, people could only huddle in spaces piled with various items, burning wood to barely survive.
Inside his constant 22-degree Celsius temperature-controlled carriage,
Ye Qiyan leisurely ate shaved ice while the snowfield monsters couldn't possibly catch up to a train already upgraded to level 4, with only WALL-E working diligently under his command.
Climbing through the train's skylight to collect snow from the roof, WALL-E shaped it into perfectly uniform cubes stored in the storage carriage. Seeing it nearly full, the little robot waved its tiny mechanical arms before Ye Qiyan.
"Full already? Good job, WALL-E. Go recharge as your reward."
WALL-E happily went to the charging station to receive the electricity it would have gotten anyway.
Ye Qiyan draped the wolf pelt he'd obtained earlier over himself and entered the storage carriage, shivering at the extreme cold.
"Brrr, it's freezing."
He quickly stored WALL-E's neatly stacked snow cubes into storage units - these would be valuable during potential hot weather, or at worst, serve as water reserves.
"About time."
[12:30:00]
Crossroads of Fate triggered.
The familiar binary choice appeared before Ye Qiyan.
[Crossroads of Fate triggered. Please choose between the following two station stops]
[Station One: Goblin Fortress (Level 4 Hunting Platform)]
[Station Two: Screaming Village (Level 5 Hunting Platform)]
"Both hunting platforms? Perfect. I've been wondering how hunting platforms differ from slaughter platforms."
"I choose Station Two - Screaming Village."
Whether level 4 or 5 platforms posed little difficulty for the current Ye Qiyan.
Naturally, he'd choose the station offering higher-level rewards.
[Station selection complete]
[Please remain seated as the train approaches the ninth stop...]
[Screaming Village]
The train advanced as twisted space appeared, the endlessly extending tracks stretching straight ahead.
Passing through the void, the surroundings remained unchanged - still the same snowstorm covering everything.
Pure white dominated the view.
The only difference was a small black dot approaching the train amidst the whiteness.
Drawing closer revealed it to be a person.
[Current Station: Screaming Village]
[Docking Countdown: 09:59:59]
[Good luck]
[This station: Danger]
"Hunter Lord! Are you the Hunter Lord?! Please stop! Save our village!"
The man anxiously approached the train, marveling at the colossal machine:
"Is this the train only Hunter Lords possess? Never thought I'd see one in my lifetime! God be praised, the village is saved!"
No sentry triggered, meaning this wasn't an enemy.
Ye Qiyan pressed the door button as icy wind howled in. Wearing prepared cold-weather gear, he examined the disheveled, blond, blue-eyed man with unkempt beard, roughly in his forties.
The "Hunter Lord" this man mentioned must be the identity assigned to conductors at this station. His knowledge of trains suggested previous conductor visits here.
"I'm just passing through, not here specifically to help you. Explain clearly - what happened to your village?"
Hearing Ye Qiyan speak, the middle-aged man suddenly knelt.
"Milord! Our village was invaded by vampires! Those damned bloodsuckers captured everyone, using them as blood bags day and night! At this rate, everyone will die within days! Milord! I beg you, save us!"
Vampires - the hunting targets this stop?
Ye Qiyan didn't immediately agree, asking further:
"If your whole village was captured, how did you escape?"
"My father... he knocked out a vampire during blood collection and helped me escape. He told me to find the Hunter Lord, saying this would make you help us!"
He produced a multi-layered wrapped box.
With trembling hands, he unwrapped the rags, opening the box to reveal its contents:
A perfectly preserved Train Coin.
Just one?
For a level 5 station, was this the only reward?
No, Ye Qiyan mentally shook his head.
This wasn't the reward - merely the natives' payment. The real gains would come after hunting those vampires.
And...
"I'll take this. Wait outside."
"Yes, milord! Thank you for your help!"
Ye Qiyan turned and closed the door.
Since vampires were the targets, proper preparation was needed.
The mithril weapons obtained from Doomsday Town would finally prove useful.
The Sanctified Mithril Cross spoke for itself, while the mithril crossbow and mithril ceremonial sword hadn't undergone Sublimation yet.
Being level 2 items, they easily upgraded to level 3 without much mental energy.
Of course, these mithril weapons mainly helped Ye Qiyan maintain his Hunter persona. For a level 5 station facing powerful vampires, his guns would be more practical.
And...
"Facing vampires without this would be a shame."
[Enchanted·Mental Magazine·Merciful Heavy Machine Gun]
The real game-changer.
After storing the virus serum in special storage, Ye Qiyan organized his equipment. WALL-E gently bumped his ankle, its monitor-like eyes blinking.
"Alright, I know you want out."
[WALL-E, activate]
A Train Coin landed on WALL-E's head as it happily slipped through the recycling chute, leaving tread marks in the snow before disappearing.
Reopening the door, Ye Qiyan addressed the still-kneeling blond man making unknown prayers with clenched fists:
"Let's go."
