Transmigrated as a Ghost

Chapter 1178 - 1178 Lyra’s Tactics (2)

Lyra's weapon bit into Imdiirn's right calf as she passed by.

A large gash was left by her blade, and the silvery blue flames licked around the edges, preventing the shadows from covering the wound up and resting the damage.

"Damn you! Fight me properly already, coward!" Imdiirn roared.

He was riddled in hundreds of injuries at this point.

Normally, he would have recovered from each attack almost immediately, but Lyra's flames prevented him from utilizing his powerful racial ability to heal by melding with the shadows.

'Yeah, like a provocation like that is going to work.' Lyra thought as her opponent raged.

She had managed to avoid taking as single hit so far, while slowly whittling away at Imdiirn's health and stamina.

If nothing else, though, he was durable. Lyra felt like she would be at this for hours at this rate.

Still, she did not plan on changing her strategy. At least not yet.

The other powerful Umbrashnul she had sensed watching had gotten closer, and she could often feel their intent to strike.

However, they had yet to make a move. Each time that Lyra left herself open to be attacked from behind, they kept their cool and did not commit to an attack.

She figured that they must have been waiting for her to either take a hit from Imdiirn or start to relax when she thought that the battle was already over.

"Fine, you want to fight me, then her I am." A visage of Lyra said with her arms wide open.

Imdiirn had seen her use this trick a few times already, so instead of charging in like he had the first couple of times and eating a nasty counterattack, he fired off several shadowy blades instead.

They ripped right through the illusion with ease.

Of course, that was always going to be the outcome, but his slight focus on the fake Lyra was enough for the real one to make her move.

Dozens of illusions of herself, along with a few of her very real clones suddenly became visible around Imdiirn.

All of them rushed towards him, and it looked like he was about to be mobbed.

"That won't be enough."

The shadows at the Umbrashnul General's feet exploded into motion, turning into blades that spun around him.

Only the clones jumped back to avoid being hit, while all of the illusions simply allowed themselves to be sliced through.

"Die!" Imdiirn yelled shooting balls of shadows at all of the Lyra's that had dodged his attack.

He had no idea if the real one was among them, but he would be perfectly happy just taking out one of her annoying clones.

Except, as he turned his attention towards offense, he left an opening for the real Lyra to exploit.

Imdiirn was unable to react in time before he felt sharp pain in both of his upper shoulders.

Lyra had suddenly appeared above him and stabbed her weapons into him from above.

The entire time her illusions and duplicates had been distracting him, she had been waiting suspend in the air just outside the range where Imdiirn could sense her.

Immediately he tried to grab ahold of her with all four of his arms, but she was already out of reach.

Before he could send a wave of shadows after her, Lyra had all spilt into dozens of different versions of herself. All of which were running away.

Imdiirn sent out an attack to hit as many as he could, but he missed the real Lyra by a wide margin.

She had not even been among the visibly copies. Having cloaked herself in an invisibility illsion.

After that, Lyra kept keeping her opponent confused and continued to create openings for her to land attacks.

He tried his best to fight her off, but while there were several times that he almost hit her, Lyra always managed to keep just out of reach.

After about twenty minutes of this, Imdiirn finally lost his cool entirely.

Shadows began striking all around him, and he rampaged through the area, attacking the entire all over the place in hopes of hitting Lyra.

Every one of his attacks was devastatingly powerful, but that hardly mattered if they missed.

Lyra was too agile to allow herself to be caught up in Imdiirn's reckless assault.

'I could definitely use this to my advantage.'

For a couple of minutes Lyra had merely been evading Imdiirn's tantrum while still invisible, but she figured out a much better way to help win the war.

Every now and then, she would allow herself to be visible and fire an attack with enough intensity that Imdiirn knew it had to have come from her real body.

This certainly got his attention, and he raged towards her like berserker.

Of course, his reckless and wide-reaching attack only his other Umbrashnuls.

Lyra led him through the lines of his own army, and he was too blinded by fury to see how much damage he was doing.

Certainly, he failed to kill any of his subordinates, but he still scattered them about and forced thousands of them to waste time recovering instead of fighting.

All the while, Lyra simply waited.

Eventually, she noticed Imdiirn start to slow down.

That's when she finally pressed the attack.

All of her clones, illusion, and her real self rushed towards the flagging Umbrashnul general.

This time when he attacked with his shadows, she did not jump back or keep her distance, she pushed through.

For the first time, her flames erupted around her entire body.

They became dense until they were almost solid, creating what looked like a set of armor around her body and a fox mask over her face.

Swinging her Kukris, Lyra cut through the shadows until she reached Imdiirn.

With all four of his arms, he threw out a barrage of punches with as much intensity as he could muster.

Though he was worn down, his attacks still possessed a deadly amount of power. Even most people around the same level as him would have been overwhelmed.

Except, Lyra was not part of most people. She was exceptional.

'Path of Asura.'

Activating one of her unique skills for the first time during the battle, arms made out of dense mana sprung out from below and above her real arms.

Each one was holding copies of her kukris, and they were just as deadly as the real things.

Needless to say, Imdiirn was surprised to see Lyra suddenly having more arms than him.

With her four new limbs, she blocked his attacks, while using her real arms to swing her kukris and slice into her adversary's body.

Within seconds he was covered in large wounds, and the flames were starting to suppress the shadows around him.

Imdiirn knew he was being overwhelmed.

Had he not already been injured and exhausted, he would have been able to fight back far better. Likely on close to even terms with Lyra.

He had believed that the way she fought was indicative to how strong she was, and that had been a mistake.

The entire time, he had figured that once he was fighting her in his element, he would win.

That proved not to be the case.

She was right in front of him, attacking him savagely, and there was nothing he could do to stop her.

As a last-ditch effort, Imdiirn tried to tackle and grab ahold of Lyra.

It had become apparent that he could not outmatch her blow for blow, so he had catch her and use everything he had to kill her before she killed him.

Yet, almost as soon as he made this desperate move did Imdiirn regret it.

He was now off balance, and his back was wide open.

Lyra swapped places with one of her clones that had been behind Imdiirn and let him tackle the duplicate.

From there she dashed forward and jammed two of her conjured Kukris into the back of his knees, while the other two sliced into his arms to prevent him from swinging them around to hit her.

"I'd say it was a good fight, but you never presented much of a challenge." Lyra said as her real kukris flashed towards her opponent's neck.

It was at this moment that her danger sense started blaring inside her head.

She could have continued to commit to her attack, but then she would have been hit as well.

Rather than let that happen, she immediately swapped places with another of her copies. And not a moment too soon.

The instant after she had switched, the clone's head was blown off by a giant arrow of shadows.

"You finally showed yourself."

Lyra turned towards where the attack had come from and swung all six of her blades into the air.

Streams of blueish silver fire shot out of all of them and engulfed the area where the other powerful Umbrashnuls had been hiding.

Ever since she had noticed their gaze on her, Lyra had planned on baiting them out. And now her patience had paid off.
