Transmigrated as a Ghost

Chapter 1179 - 1179 First Victory over the Umbrashnuls

Lyra saw a shadowy form rapidly moving away from the bursts of flames she had just launched.

Obviously, the Umbrashnul that had tried to snipe her wanted to avoid being engulfed by fire that would cause major damage.

Yet, their hasty movement to avoid being incinerated gave away their position and allowed Lyra to lock on to them.

Using her high-speed moment technique, she got into range and activated another of her unique skills. One that was perfect for locking down slippery opponents.

"Fight to the Finish."

A spectral chain shot out of the center of Lyra's torso and connected itself to the moving mass of shadows.

When the Umbrashnul tried to continue running away, they found themselves suddenly being yanked back and pulled out of the shadows.

Lyra finally got a good look at her adversary and saw that they were a woman.

She looked a lot more human than Imdiirn did. With just a single pair of arms and legs, and a small and lithe body.

Other than her gray skin and slightly pointy ears she really did just look like a petite human woman. Showing just how much variety there was between the Umbrashnuls despite them all being the same species.

"It was a good attempt, but you need to work better on concealing your animosity, not just your presence. I might not have known exactly where you were, but I could feel you watching the entire time." Lyra said, wearing a smug smile.

This set the woman off, and she jumped back and started firing more shadow arrows at Lyra.

She was surprised to see that some of them melded into the ground and attacked her at unpredictable angles, but with the six arms she currently had, she had no trouble knocking all of the attacks away.

"You're really not going to be able to get away."

Her second opponent was trying her best to break the chain and create some distance, but she was having no luck in her endeavors. She would need either a more powerful unique skill or a Supreme Skill to slip out of Lyra's Fight to the Finish.

Lyra wrapped her arm around the leash tying her to the Umbrashnul, and with a solid tug yanked the woman closer.

From this one interaction, it became clear to Lyra that her strength was vastly superior, as her adversary was hardly able to resist and was dragged off her feet.

Lyra glanced over at Imdiirn who was picking himself up and realized the dynamic at play here.

The two of them had vastly different fighting styles and powers that could complement each other.

The general was a tough and powerful bruiser, while the woman was a stealthy ranged assassin.

Had they been fighting together from the start, Lyra would have had more trouble dealing with them.

From what she could tell though, both of them were very individualistic. Just in vastly different ways.

Having been dragged into close combat, the female Umbrashnul traded out her bow for a pair of wicked looking black daggers.

She was very fast and knew how to sue them, but Lyra had more limbs and was clearly better in a head-to-head fight.

It was not long before one of Lyra's Kukri's slashed into the woman's side and left a deep wound.

Unlike Imdiirn, her shadow armor was not particularly tough. Lyra's weapons went through it like it was made of paper.

Still, even as she pressed the attack, she was not able to finish the Umbrashnul off.

Her latest enemy was clearly dexterity focused and it showed in the swiftness she could move.

However, that was the only thing keeping her alive, and without the ability to get away from Lyra, it really was only a matter of time before she was worn down and took a lethal wound. The matchup was simply not in her favor.

"Raraaaagh!"

Of course, Lyra did not have only one opponent, and once he had gotten back on his feet, Imdiirn charged towards Lyra like a freight train.

She was about to jump back and out of the way, when shadows coiled around her legs and stopped her in place.

Glancing towards the other Umbrashnul, Lyra saw that she had jammed her dagger into the ground and they were the cause of the magic that had momentarily stopped her.

Lyra was certain she could break out without too much trouble, but not before Imdiirn reached her.

'Fine then, power versus power.'

While she had been doing her best to conserve her energy, Lyra would rather exert herself some than take a heavy attack.

She turned her head towards Imdiirn and opened her mouth.

At the same time her fox mask opened up, and a ball of her flames began swingling around and growing larger.

Just before the Umbrashnul General reached her, she fired the attack.

A beam of blueish sliver flames shot out like a breath attack and slammed into the man who was almost entirely covered in dense shadows.

For a few moments, their attack pushed against each other before reaching a critical point and exploding.

Lyra conjured a mana barrier in front of herself to shield against the blast, but the Umbrashnul assassin took this opportunity to strike.

Her dagger elongated by absorbing shadows until they were several meters long, and she then stabbed them towards Lyra.

One blow aimed towards her head and the other her heart.

Yet, just before the strikes could connect, the woman was knocked off balance and her blades failed to reach Lyra.

One of her remaining clones had been hiding nearby while invisible and had taken this opportunity to grab ahold of the assassin.

It did not take her long to dispatch the clone, but it was long enough for Lyra to regain her bearings and close the distance.

All six of her arms lashed out and pressured the Umbrashnul.

The two of them traded hundreds of blows in the span of a few seconds, but even when the assassin went in for a desperate strike that fully abandoned defense, Lyra still escaped unscathed and delivered a devastating reprisal.

Her two real Kukri's ate into the woman's chest, and the ones made of mana had stabbed into her limbs.

"Why? Why are you working for those monstrous bloodsuckers?"

Lyra was about to open her mouth to respond when her danger sense went off.

Twisting her body, she just barely managed to avoid being pierced through by a shadow spear that had sprung up behind her.

Not wanting to allow her nearly beaten enemy to get off another attack, Lyra fired a blast of flames that fully engulfed the woman's body.

For a second she tried to fight against it, screaming as her body was incarnated.

In the end though, she was not strong enough to fight against Lyra's flames and was burned away until only a pile of ash remained.

With the Umbrashnul assassin defeated, Lyra turned her attention back towards Imdiirn.

He had survived their last clash, though not fully intact.

His two arms on his right side were missing, and the stumps that remained were black and charred.

Along with those most noticeable wounds, he also still had hundreds of cuts and burns all over his body. In his condition he was barely able to stand.

Lyra slowly but carefully made her way towards him while keeping her senses honed for any attacks coming at her.

She had come close to taking a nasty wound because she let her guard down for just a moment, and she was not going to let such a lapse in awareness happen again.

"It seems that I've once again been faced with the cruel reality of this world. I was never amongst the truly strong." Imdiirn said, laughing at himself in a self-deprecating manner.

Lyra figured that there was some sort of story there, but she did not care to take the time to found out about her opponent's past.

There were not any other powerful Umbrashnuls nearby, but she wanted to quickly finish up her task before she was interrupted again.

"I may die here, but my king will average me and be victorious in this war. Strong as you are, you still won't stand a chance against him. I'll be waiting for him to send you to whatever afterlife awaits so that we can mee-"

Without giving him a chance to finish what he was saying, Lyra bathed the Umbrashnul General in flames. Killing him almost instantly.

"I've already died before, so I know that there's no chance we'll be meeting again. Good luck with your Soul Placement, I suppose." Lyra said in a tone bereft of emotion.

After killing the two powerful Umbrashnuls, she did not really feel any sense of accomplishment.

Truthfully, it left her feeling hollow.

Without anything left to do on the battlefield, Lyra jumped into the air and flew back to the fortress where the others were waiting.

Once she was crossed back into the area of the chamber controlled by the Draayer Vampires, she ended her awakening and unique skill.

Immediately a wave of exhaustion rolled over her.

She might not have fought to her limits, but she had expended a good deal of her power.

If necessary, she could still go all-out. Just not for as long as when she had been fully fresh.

"Good job out there. Go ahead and take a rest. Roxene, Quillon, and I will keep watch and take it from here." Marcus said when touched down on the raised platform they were watching the battle from.

"Thanks, I think I'll do that. But do call for me if too many of our targets show up. I can still fight perfectly well if I need to."

After saying that, Lyra headed inside the fortress and found the room that had been designated for her.

Once she was inside, she flopped down onto the bed and closed her eyes.
