"Awoooooooooo!"

A blast of immense light spread out from Roxene as she used her Howl of Day unique skill.

As powerful as some of the magic spells she had been casting were, none of them could compare to output of her current attack.

The giant shadowy limbs conjured by Llorona's domain attempted to hold back the expanding sphere of luminescence, but they evaporated the moment that they came into contact with the potent light energy.

In practically an instant, Roxene's unique skill reached the edge of the domain and began pushing against it.

For a few seconds, Llorona was actually able to keep the assault at bay, preventing Roxene's Howl of Day from going any farther.

Yet, it was a fleeting resistance.

Quickly cracks began to web through the barrier and parts of it began flaking off and disappearing in whisps of shadowy smoke.

Eventually, a breaking point was met and Llorona and her domain shattered. She was unable to hold up to such an extreme expression of her natural weakness.

When the light finally faded, Roxene's eyes were immediately drawn to what remained of her opponent.

Surprisingly, Llorona had survived. Though not anywhere near fully intact.

Her lower half was missing and the shadows that had once concealed her were almost entirely gone.

Roxene watched as the woman's skin fell off in large chunks like she had just been very badly burned.

With only two arms remaining, she was trying to crawl away, but it was a slow and pitiful display.

Stepping onto a mana barrier platform, Roxene launched herself over to the barely living Umbrashnul.

She stopped right in front of Llorona and cut off the woman's slow escape.

With fury in her eyes, Llorona used what strength she had left and sent a shadow whip directly towards Roxene's neck.

Considering the woman's condition, it was a sharp attack and could have seriously injured someone that was caught off guard.

Except, Roxene did not so much as flinch and let the attack strike against her skin.

The strike that easily could have sliced through a meter thick block of unenchanted mithril bounced off of Roxene's neck. It just did not have anywhere near enough power to hurt her.

"It was a good showing. That domain was a bit tricky. The fight was good practice for me at least." Roxene said, complementing her opponent. Although, considering she was barely hurt during the entire battle, her words could easily be considered condescending.

"I do not need your pity!" Llorona spat. "Out king will avenge me! He is stronger than the rest of us combined, and more powerful than even a mythic beast like you!"

"Yes, I've already heard about him. He likes to keep all of the unique skills that your entire species has every found to himself. I presume that you only had one or two weaker ones he did not care to keep. Perhaps had he not hoarded your people's power, you would have survived this encounter with me."

"Do not insult our ruler! He is our champion and protector! Without hi-"

Llorona never got to finish what she was saying as Roxene slashed the Umbrashnul to pieces with claws made of light.

"I gave you a chance to die with dignity, but I have no obligation to listen to your ravings. Try and live a better life wherever your soul reincarnates."

Without a second glance at the woman she had just killed, Roxene turned and searched for her other Adversary.

Truthfully, she had expected Duald to either attack her as soon as she broke out of Llorona's domain or help his injured comrade.

However, he was nowhere to be seen in the area.

In fact, all of the Umbrashnuls had moved away from the location. It appeared that they wanted to give Roxene a wide berth.

'Now where is h-. Oh no! Marcus!'

It did not take long to see where her second adversary had gone.

Once Roxene had been dragged into Llorona's domain ability, he had sought out where he could be most useful. And it turned out that that was fighting against Marcus.

Seeing her caretaker being pushed, Roxene did not hesitate to take on her true form. The time for holding back and training was over. A member of her family needed her help.

Marcus dropped down to land in the middle of a large encampment being set up by elite Umbrashnul fighters.

Most of them were at least level fifty and there were several captains that were in the low sixties.

Certainly they were a powerful force, but they were not who he was here for.

That role was the elite group's leaders.

Two Umbrashnuls stood head and shoulder above the rest.

One happened to be the sixth strongest among the species, while the other was the third.

"I'm going to assume that you understand me. You're Vashtalive, and Folcalor correct?" Marcus said, addressing the two high-level Umbrashnuls.

There was tension in the air and Marcus felt like all of the enemies around him were about to explode into action.

He wanted to avoid killing more people than necessary, but he was ready to protect himself against anyone that attacked. If that included the elite soldiers that were still far weaker than him, then so be it.

Luckily, Vashtalive recognized just how powerful Marcus was and knew that his troops would stand no chance against him.

The best that they could hope for was to serve as distractions or meat shields.

When high level individuals clashed, those that were not strong enough would end up crushed by just the shockwaves created by the ensuing battle.

"All of you, advance to the secondary location and prepare for the assault. Folcalor and I will handle this man. He is too much for the rest of you."

Many of the elite Umbrashnuls hesitated to follow their orders.

They did not want to leave their superiors to fight a single person.

Marcus was clearly strong, but they believed it would be better for all of them to take him on together. Would it really be possible for a single person to stand up to all of them?

"Stop dawdling! You've received your orders! You'll do no good here!" Folcalor shouted, backing up Vashtalive's command.

For his part, Marcus let them go. As per the arrangement he had made with the Draayer Empress, he had no obligation to kill anyone but the top Umbrashnul fighters.

"You are a strange group of assassins. I read the reports from Imdiirn's subordinates that you people only target the strongest amongst us. I can sense that you don't want to kill us. So why are you fighting?"

Marcus narrowed his eyes at Vashtalive. He could feel the man using some sort of skill on him.

It was not exactly mental manipulation, but he felt the man reading and trying to enhance certain emotions.

"You're right that I have no desire to be here. This is not my war. But I have a debt to repay, and that's what I'm going to do. So, stop trying to control me, it won't work. The only way that this is end is once the two of you are dead." Marcus said, his expression a mask devoid of emotion.

"A shame. There is no reason for us to fight. Still, I thank you at least for letting our subordinates go. It would have been easy for you to have attacked us without waiting for them to get far enough away. Then they would have become collateral damage."

Despite him telling Vashtalive to stop messing with his emotions, the man tried again.

He wanted to make Marcus feel positively towards himself and enhance his hesitancy to kill them.

Against someone weaker, this could have caused them some problems. It probably would not have been enough to stop the fight but going all out while feeling guilty would be difficult.

Nevertheless, Marcus knew what he was here to do and had already made peace with it. There was not going to be anything that held him back.

'Embodiment of Light.'

Marcus erupted in a blinding glow, and the moment he did, the two Umbrashnuls that would be his opponents leapt back to put some distance between them.

'Solar Blade.'

Marcus' scythe appeared in his hands and he boosted its already powerful light energy with a tier seven enchantment spell.

With a blindingly quick slash, he sent a line of light flying towards both Vashtalive and Folcalor.

The two of them barely got out of the way in time, and Folcalor received a large, searing gash on his left shoulder.

However, as Marcus was about to press the attack, he felt another powerful entity rushing in his direction.

He turned just in time to see two giant swords composed of shadows crashing down on him.

Using his scythe he deflected both attack and watched the shadowy weapon burst apart from impacting such powerful light.

When he looked to see who the interloper was, they turned out to be Duald, one of the Umbrashnuls Roxene was supposed to be fighting.

Sending a quick glance in her direction, he saw that she had been dragged into some sort of separate space.

'I know that she could break out of that in just a few seconds if she wanted to. I can't believe that she's playing around at a time like this.' Marcus thought, shaking his head.

Still even if he was going to have to fight three of the top Umbrashnuls, he was not feeling too pressured. At least, not until an immensely powerful attack started rushing towards him from a fourth source.
