Transmigrated as a Ghost

A wall of shadows attempted to fight back against Roxene's tier six light magic spell but they only lasted a second before being blown apart.

The enormous beam of light continued on its trajectory and crashed into Llorona's body.

Being an entity composed of shadows, she let out a dying wail before disintegrating into nothing.

'That ended up being easier than I expected.' Roxene thought after having dispatched her foe.

Yet, something did not quite feel right.

She had just destroyed Llorona, but her honed instincts still sensed danger.

Fortunately, it did not take her long to figure out what was wrong, and just in time to avoid another series of attacks.

'The damn domain is still active. It should have gone away if she were dead.'

Roxene dodged and blocked sludge-like hands that were shooting out of the mire to grasp ahold of her.

The location was incredibly annoying since she needed to be on guard against attacks from every direction.

Still, it at least served as good training, and she was quickly getting used to fighting in her humanoid form.

As talent as she was, it was difficult to go from standing on four legs to only two.

"Don't leave your back open."

Roxene head Llorona's shrill voice suddenly behind her and whipped around to face the woman.

Except, instead of just one, she found two of the woman attacking her.

Of course, Roxene had already seen that she could create duplicates of herself, so this did not come as a shock.

The only thing that was annoying her was that she could not seem to tell the copies from the original.

'I'll just have to destroy them all I suppose.'

She created a shield of light that blocked the dozens of gray hands writhed in shadows that lunged towards her.

Then with a flick of her wrist, she fired a laser spell and carved right through the two Lloronas.

Both of them burst apart and faded away in a shadowy mist, but Roxene knew that she had not beaten the real woman.

The domain was still going strong, and Llorona's presence was everywhere.

'Starlight rain.'

Roxene held her right hand above her hand and a giant ball of light began to coalesce in her palm.

Once it had reached its maximum capacity, she shot it into the air where it burst apart and brought turn thousands of streaks of light on the area.

As always, the tier seven spell was perfect for saturating a large space.

Individually each beam might not have been as powerful as the laser spell, but combined they culminated into a truly deadly attack.

The dark haze the pervaded the domain attempted to snuff out the light raining down, but there was simply too much energy for it to stop.

Soon small expulsions slammed against the ground as the mire was hammered into by its natural enemy.

With so much of the haze being dispelled by her magic, Roxene was finally able to see exactly where her opponents were.

Llorona had created well over a hundred clones of herself and spread them throughout the domain.

Most would have found this intimidating if they had managed to live long enough to discover it, but Roxene only saw it a minor inconvenience.

Without hesitating, she pushed off against a mana barrier platform she had created and lunged towards the nearest enemy.

Using claws made of light she tore into the Llorona without giving her the chance to fight back.

It was just another copy, but Roxene suspected that to be the case already.

She took off towards the next one which was clumped up with three more.

They put up a bit more resistance, but Roxene still ripped into them until they dissipated into whisps of shadows.

On and on she went like this until she destroyed every single one.

However, even after that, the domain did not fall apart. In fact, it had recovered from her tier seven spell and the gloomy haze had returned even stronger than before.

"A valiant attempt, but it will take far more than that to kill me. You can destroy my body as many times as you want. But I will never die." The disembodied voice of Llorona said.

Roxene had tried to pinpoint the origin of the sound, but it seemed to be coming from all around her.

Regrettably, she did not have time to investigate further before an army of figures descended upon her.

All of the Lloronas that she had just defeated reappeared out of the mist and charged towards her together.

She struck out against them and fired spell after spell into the horde.

But even as she destroyed wave after wave, more kept coming.

"You must be hiding your real body somewhere. These cowardly tricks are only going to delay the inevitable. Why don't you come out and face me so that we can get this over with. I promise you a swift death if you do." Roxene said while the next wave of enemies was forming.

"Hehe. I have no reason to hide from you. You simply do not possess the power to finish me. Eventually even a mythic beast like you will run out of mana and stamina, and once that light shielding your body fades, my mire will consume you."

Roxene just rolled her eyes at this teethless threat.

Llorona's powers were bothersome to deal with, but there was basically no danger.

Roxene could keep up her current level of exertion for an entire day without issue.

She had not yet used any active unique or Supreme Skill, and the mana for the spells she cast was regenerating almost as quickly as she used it.

For a while longer Roxene kept throwing herself at the clones and the dangerous terrain of the Gloom Mire, but she soon concluded that Llorona could regenerate her copies endlessly while the domain remained active.

"I think I've just about figured it out. I'm more used to this form now, so I think that this is enough."

Roxene flew up to the ceiling of the domain and pointed down at the center of the mire.

"Last Light."

The tier eight spell only manifested itself as a single bead of light, but its radiance was bright enough to rival the sun.

A pained screech unlike any other resounded through the area as a more powerful light than any other Roxene had conjured so far spread through the domain.

Already knowing where her target was, Roxene released the small bead of light and watched it plumet towards the ground like a falling meteor.

When it impacted, the surface of the mire below, all of the stored energy expanded at once and engulfed the area.

The full intensity only spread out for a few meters, but everything was still bathed in light.

Roxene watched as the shadowy sludge that made up the floor of the domain churned like the sea during a storm.

All of the gnarled trees quickly burst into flames under the intense light and soon they were reduced to nothing.

When the spell finally ran its course, there was a giant hole in the center of the domain that the mire was unable to refill.

"YOU HATEFULL LITTLE THING!" Llorona screamed in a high-pitched voice far louder than anything else she had said so far.

Roxene covered her sensitive ears and winced. Truthfully, the Umbrashnul's shouting did more damage to her than any of the woman's attacks had so far.

After being so heavily damaged, the domain began to reassert itself and attacked Roxene with more ferocity than before.

No longer were copies of Llorona appearing to attack her. The sludge-like shadows and the hazy mist began melding together until they formed several large limbs that would be fitting for giants.

Hands, claws, and tentacles all made out of the substances spread throughout the domain came whipping towards Roxene.

Each one had a great deal of power behind it, but they were slow and easily avoided. At least at first.

The more time that passed, the faster they became and the more erratic their movements.

"That must have really stung, but if you wanted to keep up the illusion that your true body was still around, you should not have given me so many hints. I know that you have become the domain itself. An unusual power, but not one that's as impressive as you think. It gives me a plenty big target to hit."

Roxene fired off a barrage of light magic spells, each one aimed at the boundaries of the domain.

Every hit caused Llorona's pain voice to echo out, and Roxene knew that she was doing some serious damage.

Still, in her current form, the woman turned out to be far tougher than Roxene imagined. No matter how many attacks she landed, it never seemed to be enough.

"I suppose out of respect for your durability, if nothing else, I'll have to stop playing around for a single attack."

Roxene took a deep breath and then tipped her head back.

She stayed frozen in place for a moment as she prepared, and the entire domain took this as a cue to collapse in on her.

Before the shadows could reach her though, she opened her mouth and howled.
