Transmigrated as a Ghost

Chapter 1191 - 1191 Emergency Solutions

"That was entirely unpleasant. I had not expected you to be able to fight back against my Hand of Greed so fiercely. That silver light must have been from a Supreme Skill of your own. It was impressive, but it seems that it was not enough."

The Umbrashnul King was still confident that he could defeat Marcus now and that he was no longer any threat at all.

With the loss of so many of his skills, he had been significantly weakened. To the point where he could probably not display even seventy percent of his full strength.

Of course, while the Umbrashnul King was busy proclaiming his superiority and victory, he was working on a strategy to turn the desperate situation around.

To start, he turned his attention towards his scythe.

If it were a normal weapon, he would need to send mana through it to activate its abilities, but he had bound his very soul to his scythe.

It was a part of him, and as such he could feel the power within it.

'Got it.'

After only a few seconds of focus, Marcus's chosen weapon lit up with light energy.

He had used materials from a high-level creature that had a strong affinity for the element in its construction, so the Dread Devourer, as it had been dubbed by the system, was perfectly capable of using the power.

It was unfortunately nowhere nearly as strong as it would have been had he still been at one hundred percent, but even the comparatively small amount of light energy would allow him to at least harm his opponent.

"Oh, that is no normal weapon. Did you break one of the taboos?" The Umbrashnul King said, clearly surprised by what he sensed from Marcus' scythe.

Marcus just disregarded him and instead prepared to attack to see how he fared.

"Do you really plan on continuing to face me? I've seen that you can use those Dark Portals of yours to get away if necessary. From where you are now, you could be gone before any of my attacks reach you. Why don't you leave while you still have your life."

The man tried to make it sound like he was showing Marcus mercy, but he knew that was a load of sh*t.

More likely, he did not want to end up killing Marcus because doing so would see him losing all of the skills that he had stolen.

While they had been grayed out on his status, they still technically were tied to him. If he went, so would the skills.

'I wonder if this will work?' Marcus thought, quickly trying something in his status menu before the battle started anew.

Though it would be impossible to get his unique skills back this way, he wondered if he could purchase the normal ones again.

It would be a bit of a waste of skill points, but Marcus was willing to do so considering the circumstances.

Regrettably, he was unable to rebuy them.

For the same reason that the Umbrashnul King would lose the stolen skills if Marcus died, he was unable to attain them a second time. They were not really gone, just stolen.

Still, he did not hesitate to use all of the current skill points he had been hoarding.

In case of an emergency, he always kept a lot on hand to buy new skills or upgrade his current ones for a sudden power boost.

There had been plenty of times in the past when he had considered doing so, but it was either difficult to find the time to access his status in the heat of battle, or he did not think the slight increase in power would really matter.

'Thankfully, he's giving me all the time in the world to run away if I want. Right now, he probably considers my inaction to be because of hesitation.' Marcus thought as he leveled up several of his skills.

He focused on the ones that increased his stats, knowing that they would always be useful and have some impact on his combat capabilities.

Along with leveling them up, he also bought a single new skill called shadow resistance.

Typically, he did not bother with resistance skills, since he was already incredibly durable. Plus, they were stupidly difficult to learn naturally, requiring suffering near fatal wounds from specific type of damage over and over again.

Frankly, the slight increase in protection from a single of element or magic just was not worth it most of the time.

The only resistance skill Marcus had before sinking nearly seven hundred skill points to bring shadow magic resistance up to level six was curse resistance.

Nevertheless, he felt that the situation demanded it, so he had not hesitated to invest in what would be a useless skill against anyone that did not use the shadow element to attack.

'There goes my nearly fifteen hundred stockpiled skill points. I guess I was going to have to use them eventually, I was just hoping it would be for some cool new skill I had discovered, or maybe to bring some of my other magic skills up to level ten.'

He was already feeling buyer's remorse, but he could not magically get the skill points back now, and he was going to need every boost that he could get in the coming fight.

With what preparation he could make completely, he finally turned his attention back to the Umbrashnul king. The man was still speaking. Marcus was beginning to think the guy just liked the sound of his own voice.

"… do not test me further. I am giving you an opportunity to escape with your life. Go already, I have no desire to waste my time and effort on destroying you. But test my patience any longer, and I will end you."

"Uh, sorry, I did not catch that first part. I stopped listening for a bit, but thanks for giving me the time I needed to prepare. We can start fighting again now. I'm not leaving here until I get back what rightfully belong to me."
