Transmigrated into a Grandpa, Embracing the Laid-Back Life
Chapter 538: Cloud Hidden Sect in SightOn the morning of the third day.
When the first ray of dawn light tore through the eastern sea of clouds like a sharp sword, the atmosphere on the airship finally stirred awake from the silence of the previous night.
Qingfeng rubbed his sleepy eyes and climbed up from the deck. He let out a huge yawn, vigorously stretching his stiff limbs, his joints popping with a crisp crack.
“Man, I slept deep,” Qingfeng muttered.
He turned his head and saw Su Ming still sitting cross-legged at the stern in the same position as the night before, as if even the folds of his robe hadn't shifted.
Qingfeng blinked, then suddenly remembered something. He slapped his forehead and hurriedly fumbled three shiny, smooth copper coins out of his storage pouch.
These were the coins Master Xuanming had tossed to him yesterday, saying they were "Road-Asking Coins" used by outer sect disciples of Tianji Pavilion for practice.
Qingfeng took a deep breath, trying to mimic Master’s profound and inscrutable demeanor. He pressed the three copper coins together between his palms and began mumbling under his breath.
“Heaven spirits, earth spirits, Founding Ancestor, show up…” Qingfeng muttered a string of nonsensical phrases and shook his hands vigorously.
“Clatter—”
Qingfeng let his hands go, and the three copper coins landed on the hard deck with a crisp clatter, spinning in a few circles before finally coming to a stop.
Qingfeng’s eyes went wide as he stared at the coins on the ground. His brow furrowed deeper and deeper.
“Two heads and one tail? No wait, that one looked like it was standing on edge…” Qingfeng scratched his head, picked up the coins, and shook them again in stubborn refusal to give up.
“Clatter!”
They landed again.
“All three tails?” Qingfeng sucked in a sharp breath. “Does this mean we can’t go back?”
Mingyue was doubled over with laughter beside him, tears nearly streaming down her face.
“Senior Brother, just give it up,” Mingyue said, clutching her stomach and pointing at the coins. “You’re meant to practice swordsmanship your whole life. Divination is a delicate craft—you can’t even calm your mind. This isn’t fortune-telling; you’re just rolling dice.”
“What do you know!” Qingfeng’s face flushed red, and he stubbornly stuck out his neck. “I’m just a beginner! I haven’t found the feel yet! Just wait until I get it right once, and I’ll show you!”
He turned to look at Su Ming.
“Su Ming, you always have the most ideas. You be the judge,” Qingfeng said, pointing at the coins. “These three copper coins—why does the result come out different every time I drop them?”
Su Ming slowly opened his eyes and swept his gaze over the three coins.
“What are you calculating?” Su Ming asked.
“I’m figuring out when this airship of ours will reach the mountain gate of Cloud Hidden Sect,” Qingfeng said with a dead-serious expression.
Su Ming didn’t look at the hexagram on the ground. Instead, he raised his head, observed the speed of the clouds flowing past either side of the airship, and sensed the rate at which the spiritual energy shield was being consumed.
“I’m not well-versed in the art of divination,” Su Ming said, his voice steady and calm. “But formations and divination share some common ground. Before divining the Heavenly Mechanism, you must first divine your own heart. Your heart is too chaotic.”
“Calm my heart?” Qingfeng scratched his chin. “How do I do that?”
Su Ming withdrew his gaze and simply uttered four words: “Talk less, do more.”
Qingfeng was stunned for a moment.
“Then… when do you think we’ll get there?” Qingfeng pressed on, unwilling to give up.
Su Ming closed his eyes and casually said, “At this speed, we should see the mountain gate before dusk today.”
Qingfeng looked at Su Ming with a mix of doubt and belief. He took a deep breath, forcing himself to stop listening to the wind and Mingyue’s laughter. Closing his eyes, he followed the mnemonics Master had taught him and truly ran through the process in his mind.
This time, he didn’t shake wildly but released the coins with extreme steadiness.
“Clatter.”
The coins hit the deck.
Qingfeng opened his eyes and stared fixedly at the hexagram on the ground. One head, two tails. Kan above, Li below.
He silently deduced the result in his mind, then jerked his head up to look at Su Ming with an expression of sheer disbelief.
“Dusk… it really is dusk!” Qingfeng’s voice cracked, looking at Su Ming as if he were some kind of monster. “You didn’t even touch the coins! How did you figure it out?!”
Inside the Xuantian ring, Lin Yu let out a loud, unceremonious snort of laughter.
Su Ming ignored Lin Yu’s undermining. He maintained a profound silence, simply nodding slightly.
Just as Qingfeng was about to lunge forward and beg for an explanation.
A streak of black lightning suddenly shot out from Su Ming’s collar.
“Cheep!”
Shadow let out a crisp, piercing cry, darting through the air like an arrow and pecking Qingfeng’s outstretched hand with perfect precision.
“Ouch!” Qingfeng yelped in pain, yanking his hand back and staring at the bright red spot on the back of it. He stomped his feet in fury. “You damn crow! Why are you pecking me again?!”
Shadow circled triumphantly in the air, as if showing off its victory, then landed steadily back on Su Ming’s right shoulder. It began preening its feathers with its sharp beak, not even sparing Qingfeng a glance.
Qingfeng rubbed the back of his hand and sat back down in a huff, while Mingyue covered her mouth and snickered beside him.
The airship continued forward.
On the distant horizon, an extremely thick layer of clouds began to churn. And deep within those clouds, the outlines of several familiar mountain peaks slowly emerged in the glow of the setting sun.
Cloud Hidden Sect had arrived.
The mountain contours of Cloud Hidden Sect grew clearer in the evening light.
The central Sect Leader’s main peak pierced straight into the clouds, while the other peaks surrounded it like stars around the moon. A faint, hemispherical azure light barrier—the mountain-protecting formation—wrapped the entire sect tightly within.
Su Ming stood up from the deck and walked slowly to the bow of the airship.
The night wind hit his face, carrying the sharp, fresh moisture unique to the Northern Frontier.
He took a deep breath. The lingering sense of dryness and crisis that had weighed on his heart throughout Central Continent was finally and completely washed away in that moment.
Watching the mountain gate draw closer, a rare and indescribable feeling of steadiness surged up in Su Ming’s chest.
Central Continent had been overwhelmingly prosperous, but that wasn’t his home.
And this mountain range before him—though equally filled with the sect’s internal power struggles, though Sun Quan had once framed him here and the Vessel Hall had made things difficult for him—here, at least, he had the formation safe house he’d personally set up, a foothold in the Repair Hall, and most of all, his Master Xuanheng, a great mountain he could lean on for now.
The faint rustle of fabric came from behind him.
Master Xuanming had awakened from his meditation at some point. He walked with his hands clasped behind his back, slowly coming to stand beside Su Ming.
His gaunt, withered face still showed no excess expression. His deeply sunken eyes quietly stared ahead at the mountain-protecting formation.
Su Ming didn’t turn his head, only slightly shifted his posture to maintain an attitude of respect.
The two stood side by side for a full ten breaths without either speaking a word.
The airship’s speed began to slow sharply, and the faint blue protective shield around the hull gradually thinned.
Su Ming activated his True Disciple token. The mountain-protecting formation sensed the Cloud Hidden Sect spiritual energy beacon on the airship, and the azure light barrier rippled like layers of water. Then, the barrier slowly parted from the middle, opening a massive passage wide enough for the airship to pass through.
The airship smoothly slid into the passage.
