Transmigration: I Made A Deal With A Man in Yellow
Chapter 108: Ezio’s ugly faceMy vision was nothing but darkness.
I couldn’t see or hear anything, but I could feel myself—or rather, my soul—being carried somewhere by an unknown force. It was the same strange sensation I had felt when I was first pulled into that place.
After a few moments, the feeling stopped.
It seemed like I had returned somewhere familiar.
The first thing to welcome me back was the annoyed voice of my Shadow Guardian.
"This brat... why is he taking so long? It’s already been an hour. Did he die or something?"
I couldn’t help but smile.
It had been months since I last saw him. Months of training, fighting Sister Friede, dying repeatedly, and then being forced to watch her memories.
Yet for Ezio, only an hour had passed.
I had to admit, hearing his annoying voice again made me strangely happy.
I slowly opened my eyes, and the first thing I saw was Ezio’s tall figure standing in front of me, looking down at my body.
"Yo," I said.
Ezio, who had been cursing only a moment ago, froze. His expression quickly changed from annoyance to surprise before a hint of relief appeared on his face.
"Kid, you’re back! I almost thought you were a goner."
"I won’t die that easily—kugh!"
The moment I tried to move, excruciating pain shot through my entire body.
My muscles screamed, my bones ached, and several parts of my body felt like they had been sliced open.
Ah, shit!
I immediately glared at Ezio.
Did this fucker beat me while I was away?
I swear—
"Don’t look at me like that," Ezio immediately said after noticing my glare. "Dozens of injuries suddenly started appearing all over your body for some unknown reason. I’m guessing it has something to do with wherever you went to fight that monster."
Oh.
Never mind.
I lowered my gaze and finally inspected myself properly.
And damn.
I looked horrible.
Cuts and slashes covered my body from head to toe. Some parts of my skin had been badly burned, while dried and fresh blood covered almost every inch of me. Even my clothes had been torn and burned beyond repair.
My precious clothes...
How unfortunate.
It didn’t take long for me to figure out what had happened.
These were probably the injuries Sister Friede had inflicted on me during our fights. Somehow, the wounds I had received while inside that place had transferred onto my real body after I returned.
What a pain.
I inspected myself further and noticed that the damage wasn’t limited to my skin either. Several bones felt broken, my chest hurt whenever I breathed, and my entire body felt like it had been thrown off a mountain.
"Cough!"
A mouthful of blood suddenly came out of my mouth.
Yeah.
I was definitely in bad shape.
"Here. Drink this."
Ezio crouched beside me and pulled out a high-grade healing potion before handing it over.
I grabbed the bottle with trembling fingers and immediately poured its contents down my throat.
The potion took effect almost instantly.
Warm energy spread from my stomach throughout the rest of my body. The cuts slowly closed, the burns disappeared, and I felt my broken bones shifting back into place. Even the pain in my chest gradually faded.
After about a minute, my body was back in top form.
Well, mostly.
I was still covered from head to toe in my own blood, and my clothes looked like I’d just survived a war.
"Yves, you could’ve at least warned me that your body was going to start tearing itself apart!" Ezio snapped. "How the hell did you expect me to react when injuries suddenly started appearing all over you out of nowhere?"
I looked up at him.
"I didn’t know that would happen."
"I was even wondering whether I should give you a healing potion or not!" Ezio continued, clearly frustrated. "One moment you’re sitting there perfectly fine, then suddenly you’re bleeding, getting cut, and burning for no damn reason."
He pointed at me accusingly.
"But you specifically told me not to touch you, so I didn’t. Mind you, if you had died and your death somehow caused me to die as well, I would’ve made sure to haunt your soul in hell."
I stared at him blankly.
This guy...
And here I thought he had actually been worried about me.
He was just scared of dying.
"You bastard. Why can’t you, for once, just say you’re happy I’m alive?" I shook my head. "I almost died several times, you know."
Well...
Technically, I had died.
Four times.
But telling Ezio that probably wasn’t the wisest idea. The bastard would either lecture me for the next hour or somehow find a way to blame me for nearly getting him killed.
Ezio clicked his tongue.
"Tsk. You wish."
I narrowed my eyes at him.
"No wonder you’re so ugly. Ugly attitude equals ugly face."
A frown immediately formed on Ezio’s face.
He stood up and threw his hands into the air.
"Here you go again with that nonsense! That one hour you were gone was the most peaceful hour I’ve had in months!" He pointed toward the place I had just returned from. "Please, go back. Go back to that place, dimension, or whatever the hell it was."
I smiled as I pushed myself onto my feet.
"Unfortunately for you, that’s not possible anymore."
Ezio sighed in relief.
"Thank the gods—"
"And even if it were..." I dusted some dried blood from my ruined clothes and looked at him with a grin. "I’d rather stay here and piss you off."
Ezio’s face immediately darkened.
I smiled even wider.
Yeah.
It was good to be back.
"Just hang me." Ezio pleaded.
I just chuckled at his behaviour.
Ezio remained silent for a moment before saying—
"Hey, you didn’t say thank you."
I raised an eyebrow. "Thank you for what?"
"For the potion that I gave you."
"You’re my servant, why should I thank you?"
Ezio just stared at me for a second before he shook his head.
"Shameless bastard."
"That’s me."
Ezio crossed his arms over his chest and turned to the tombstones.
"Did you manage to kill the monster?"
"Yeah." The candle that I had lit m, its light, had been extinguished long ago.
My eyes then moved to the tombstones. I could guess the middle one was Sister Friede’s and the other two were the Knight brothers.
Warriors who were once children that suffered a tragic end.
"So, what happened?" Ezio asked. "And explain to me how you knew about all of this."
I kept my eyes on the tombstones in front of me.
"I’m not telling you how I came to know about this place."
"Why?"
"Because a man has to keep his secrets."
Ezio rolled his eyes at my answer.
"Fine. Keep your precious secrets. Just tell me where exactly you went."
I thought about it for a moment before deciding there was no harm in telling him some of what had happened. So, for the next few minutes, I explained that I had been transported to some sort of separate dimension that contained remnants of an era long gone.
Of course, I didn’t tell him everything.
There was no way I was going to tell him about Sister Friede, nor was I going to casually mention that I had died four times. I also kept everything about experiencing Sister Friede’s memories to myself.
What Ezio didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.
Instead, I told him that time flowed differently inside that place. While only an hour had passed here, I had experienced months there. I told him about fighting the undead monsters and how the final monster I faced had been a Greater-rank creature that wielded a scythe.
At least that explained why my scythe skills had improved so much.
Ezio listened quietly until I finished explaining.
"That’s quite the adventure you had," he eventually said. His eyes moved over me for a moment as though inspecting something I couldn’t see. "And I can tell that it benefited you greatly. Your Story Rank has increased."
"Yeah. Fortunately, I succeeded."
I turned my attention back toward the tombstones.
This whole thing had been nothing but a massive gamble.
There had been so many moments where the smallest mistake could’ve ended everything. If I had failed to get the dagger, if Sister Friede’s Black Flame had killed me before I stabbed her, or if I had wasted my final attempt...
I wouldn’t be standing here right now.
But there was no point thinking about what could’ve happened.
Dangerous or not, I had won.
That was all that mattered.
Now, I only needed to focus on training for the remaining month before the Rite of Passage began. I had grown much stronger during my time inside the ruins, but that didn’t mean I could relax.
Especially when I knew the kinds of monsters my siblings were.
"So..." Ezio’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. "Have you checked what Gift you received?"
I blinked.
Oh.
Right.
My new Gift.
"No, actually. I haven’t checked it yet." I rubbed my chin before smiling. "I’ll do that now."
I wondered what kind of Gift I had received.
Something overpowered?
Or complete trash?
Honestly, I was hoping for the former. After everything I had gone through to increase my Story Rank, getting some useless Gift would be a slap in the face.
Especially with the Rite of Passage approaching.
I needed every advantage I could get if I wanted to compete against my siblings.
And unfortunately...
I had never been particularly lucky when it came to gambling.
Shit.
Well, there was nothing I could do about it now.
I brought my hands together and rubbed them eagerly.
"Story System."
The familiar interface appeared before my eyes.
I leaned forward slightly, unable to hide the grin spreading across my face as I waited for my new Gift to appear.
"Hehehe..."
Ezio gave me a strange look from the side.
I ignored him and continued rubbing my hands together.
"Come on... give me something good."
