Transmigration: I Made A Deal With A Man in Yellow
Chapter 79: Sister Friede [12]Meanwhile, back at the ruins.
Ezio stood with a blank expression, showing no emotion as he looked at Yves, who was kneeling in front of the tombstones.
As an assassin, Ezio was taught that he should never show any sort of emotion because those who were swayed by them were not fit to be assassins. Therefore, he had learned to control his expressions so that no one could tell what he was thinking.
He always tried to keep that same mask around Yves, but somehow, the boy was able to break it easily. Ezio never understood how.
Despite his emotionless expression, inside Ezio’s head, his thoughts were running wild.
’This kid’s soul is gone.’
Ezio had a special power that allowed him to sense people’s souls, and as he looked at the kneeling Yves, he sensed nothing.
His soul was completely gone.
Ever since Yves finished the prayer, Ezio had felt some unknown, powerful force pulling Yves’s soul out of his body and taking it somewhere he didn’t know.
He had almost tried to stop it before the unknown force seized Yves’s soul, but Yves had asked him not to do anything, so he obeyed.
But even though he obeyed, he didn’t like it one bit.
’From what I can deduce, this so-called monster he was talking about is related to these tombstones.’
Ezio looked at the three nameless tombstones. A frown broke through his blank expression.
He recalled what Yves had told him about people from long ago and how these were the tombstones of three important people.
People he hadn’t even known existed until now.
No matter how much he thought about it, he couldn’t come up with an answer as to how Yves knew about all of this because these things were definitely not written in any book.
People had explored these ruins before, yet no one had ever discovered that there was a barrier protecting an underground entrance beneath this old church building.
Not even the best explorers.
That made Yves even more suspicious in his eyes.
’But maybe his behavior from before was because of all this.’
Ezio had been watching Yves ever since he was a baby. After Yves failed his awakening, he started doing some sort of research on different places around the world.
Ezio hadn’t paid much attention to exactly what Yves was researching because he hadn’t been interested at the time. But now that Yves had undergone a complete change in personality, his interest was piqued.
So Ezio came to the conclusion that Yves was facing some sort of challenge.
That was the only reasonable explanation for all of this.
His soul had probably been taken somewhere else, perhaps to another dimension where the challenge was taking place.
It wasn’t impossible for such places to exist. They were simply rare. Ezio himself had never encountered one until now, but he had heard of them.
"Sigh."
Ezio sighed and crossed his arms over his chest.
’I just hope he’s alright and comes back alive—ah, since when did I start caring about this kid?’
Ezio was puzzled by his own thoughts.
Ezio had never cared about anyone. The first and last person he had ever cared about was long gone.
He couldn’t even remember the last time he had felt like this—worrying about someone.
When Ezio was assigned to Yves, he hadn’t cared about the kid at all. After all, he hadn’t wanted to become a guardian in the first place, but he had no free will in the matter, so he was stuck with Yves.
When Yves was picked on by his siblings and cousins for being the son of a concubine and for being weaker than them, Ezio hadn’t felt even a bit of pity. Not because he couldn’t, but because he had been raised that way.
Only those who stood up for themselves were fated for greatness.
Besides, why would he feel pity for a kid he barely knew?
When Yves failed his awakening, Ezio wanted nothing more than to leave the kid. However, he couldn’t because of the duty he had to the family.
But things changed when Yves awakened and his personality completely shifted.
During the month he spent with him, Ezio got to know more about Yves and discovered that he wasn’t like other noble children.
He was different.
He didn’t abuse his power, nor was he arrogant. Something that was rare nowadays.
And the more time Ezio spent with Yves, the more he grew accustomed to his presence. Ezio’s image of Yves was slowly changing from simply being his young master to someone he could talk to freely, someone he could be honest with.
And the more he watched Yves, the more Yves reminded him of someone.
Though there was one thing he disliked about Yves—
He liked calling him ugly!
How was he ugly when he had one of the most handsome faces in this world?
Yves was just being treacherous.
Squelch.
Ezio was pulled from his thoughts by a wet sound.
"What was that?"
Ezio looked at Yves, whose back was facing him.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Squelch.
The same sound came again.
Squelch.
Then again.
Squelch.
Until it stopped.
"The sound is coming from Yves’s side," he murmured before walking forward.
When he reached Yves and finally saw his front, his eyes widened.
Yves’s body, from head to toe, was covered in knife-like cuts, blood dripping from the wounds. Around his neck was a huge circular slash mark that was also dripping with blood.
Yet despite all those wounds, Yves didn’t move a single inch.
"Yves!"
Ezio called his name with worry and crouched in front of him.
’What is happening to his body?!’
Ezio didn’t understand what was happening because more cuts kept appearing across Yves’s body, tearing through his clothes as well.
It was as though someone invisible was cutting Yves with a knife.
The first thought that came into Ezio’s mind was to get a healing potion.
He opened his spatial ring and pulled one out. He was about to open Yves’s mouth and feed it to him when he suddenly stopped.
"Shit, he told me not to touch him."
He recalled that Yves had specifically told him not to touch him, no matter what happened.
"Fuck, what the hell is this kid doing?"
Ezio clenched his jaw.
He desperately wanted to heal him because the wounds kept getting worse, but Yves’s words kept him rooted in place.
He didn’t want to interfere with Yves’s plan, so he remained crouched there helplessly.
"Does this mean he’s somehow losing?" Ezio asked himself.
He wasn’t sure what was happening, but he could tell that Yves was getting hurt wherever he was.
"Come on, kid. You can do it."
