Chapter 277: Chapter Two Hundred And Seventy Six

The hooded man looked up through his blurry, bleeding vision. He saw Damon charging toward him like a furious, unstoppable beast.

The man knew he had failed. He knew he would definitely die if he stayed to fight a one-on-one battle with the Tyrant General.

The hooded man scrambled up from the floor. He did not try to retrieve his dagger. He turned around and fled the scene immediately. He ran as fast as he could toward a broken window at the back of the warehouse, jumping through it and disappearing.

Damon did not chase the fleeing man. He had a more important thing to take care of.

Damon reached Camilla just as her legs gave out from under her. She began to fall backward toward the floor.

Damon threw himself forward. He slid on his knees. He reached out his arms and caught her gently before she could hit the ground.

Camilla fell into his warm embrace.

She was completely weak. Her body felt soft in his arms. Her skin was burning with a very high, unnatural fever. She was sweating slightly, and her hair stuck to her pale forehead.

She rested her head against his chest. She kept her eyes closed, lost in the visions created by the sundew powder.

She kept whispering his name over and over again. Her voice was tiny, sweet, and vulnerable.

"Damon," Camilla whispered softly. Her hands weakly grabbed the front of his dark blue coat. "Damon."

Damon felt his heart break into a million pieces. He had never seen her look so fragile.

He held her securely against his chest. He wrapped his arms tightly around her shoulders, keeping her safe. He leaned his head down.

He pressed his warm lips very gently against her hot, sweating forehead. He kissed her softly.

"I’m here, Camilla," Damon spoke quietly. His deep voice was a soothing, comforting rumble against her ear. "I’m here."

Camilla let out a long, soft sigh of relief. She relaxed her body in his strong arms, trusting him entirely.

Near the front doors, the sound of clashing steel finally stopped.

Kade had finished fighting. He wiped his sword clean and put it back into his leather scabbard. The remaining guards were all lying on the floor, either unconscious or dead.

The warehouse became quiet, except for the sound of heavy breathing.

Kade looked around the large, dusty room. His sharp senses noticed a very slight movement behind some empty barrels near the wall.

Kade frowned. He stepped forward.

"Come out!" He commanded loudly. His voice was strict and authoritative.

Slowly, the three thugs stood up from behind the barrels. They were shaking violently. They raised their large hands high up in the air, showing they had no weapons. They slowly stepped out into the open, surrendering to the aide.

Kade ignored them for a moment. He walked deeper into the warehouse. He looked behind the tall pile of stacked, broken crates.

He spotted the bright silk dress.

Kade reached down. He grabbed Isabel firmly by her arm. He did not care that she was a delicate noble lady. She had ordered an assassination.

Kade dragged Isabel out from her hiding spot. She struggled and cried, but Kade was too strong. He dragged her across the dirty floorboards.

He shoved her roughly forward.

Isabel stumbled and fell heavily onto her knees right at Damon’s feet. Her dress was covered in thick grey dust. Her blonde hair was a complete mess.

Damon remained kneeling on the floor. He continued to caress Camilla’s red hair gently, soothing her feverish body. He did not even turn his head to look at Isabel.

Damon spoke. His deep voice was cold, flat, and empty of any emotion.

"I warned you to stay away from her, didn’t I?" Damon asked quietly, staring at Camilla’s face. "Why did you do it?"

Isabel sat on the dirty floor. She looked at Damon holding Camilla so gently. She saw the love and deep concern on his face.

Isabel let out a short, harsh, bitter laugh. The laugh quickly turned into a broken sob. Tears welled up in her eyes and spilled down her cheeks.

"I love you, Damon," Isabel cried loudly. Her voice was full of desperate, painful longing.

She clutched her hands to her chest. "I have loved you since the very first day I saw you at the Benson’s estate years ago. I did everything to get your attention. Why don’t you love me?"

Damon was silent. He was incredibly tired. He was tired of the jealousy, the schemes, and the endless drama. He did not want to hear her pathetic excuses. He only wanted to take his wife home and call a doctor to check her fever.

Damon slowly stood up. He carefully lifted Camilla into his arms, carrying her bridal style against his broad chest. Her head rested perfectly on his shoulder.

He turned his body toward the open front doors. He began to walk out of the warehouse.

He spoke to his aide as he walked away.

"Kade," Damon ordered smoothly. "Take care of this. Following the law."

He meant for Kade to arrest Isabel and the thugs, hand them over to the city guards, and let the royal courts deal with their crimes of abduction and attempted murder because if he handled it, he will kill them all.

Kade bowed deeply. "As you wish, my lord."

Damon continued walking.

But Isabel’s frantic, desperate words suddenly stopped him in his tracks.

Isabel scrambled forward on her knees. She screamed at his back, her voice filled with hatred and wild jealousy.

"What is so great about her?!" Isabel shrieked loudly. "Why do you keep choosing her, even after she betrayed you?!"

Damon stood still. He did not turn around. He remained silent, waiting for her to finish her crazy rant.

Isabel let out another harsh, wicked laugh. She wanted to hurt him. She wanted to destroy the perfect image he had of his wife.

"Do you think she really tried to commit suicide?" Isabel asked mockingly. Her voice echoed sharply in the large, empty space. "Do you think she would try to kill herself because you gave her the divorce papers?"

Isabel laughed again. It was an ugly, chilling sound. She stared at Damon’s stiff shoulders.

"Do you want to know what your wife actually did behind your back?" Isabel asked, offering a terrible, dark secret to the quiet room.
