Transmigration: The Tyrant General Can Hear My Thoughts
Chapter 318 - Three Hundred And SeventeenChapter 318: Chapter Three Hundred And Seventeen
The carriage bumped roughly along the abandoned secondary road. Camilla’s plan had worked perfectly. They did not see a single assassin or a blocked path. The journey was very bumpy and slightly uncomfortable, just as Damon had warned, but it was at least safe.
Finally, the rough dirt road changed into smooth, flat, white stone. The carriage drove into the palace gate and rolled smoothly into the royal courtyard.
Because they took the longer, unused route, they arrived at the palace later than they had originally expected. However, they were still early enough for the grand royal council meeting. The morning sun was bright, shining down on the white marble walls of the palace.
Hugo, the carriage driver, pulled the leather reins gently. "Whoa," Hugo called out softly.
The strong horses slowed down and the carriage rolled to a complete stop right in front of the main entrance stairs.
Kade, who was sitting on the back of the carriage to keep guard, quickly jumped down onto the clean stone pavement. He walked over to the carriage door. He turned the brass handle and pulled the door wide open.
Damon stepped out first. His leather boots made a solid, firm sound against the white stones.
Damon turned his body back toward the open carriage door. He reached his large, white-gloved hand inside.
Camilla sat on the velvet seat. She lifted the bulky layers of her silk dress with her left hand. She placed her right hand gently into Damon’s waiting palm.
Damon held her hand securely. He carefully supported her weight as she stepped down from the carriage. Her soft shoes touched the stone pavement of the royal courtyard.
"Thank you," Camilla murmured softly.
Hugo, the driver, looked down from his high wooden box. He nodded his head respectfully to the General and the Lady. Then, Hugo cracked his whip lightly. He drove the carriage away, steering it toward a large designated area on the far side of the courtyard where dozens of other expensive, highly decorated noble carriages were already packed tightly together in neat rows.
Damon, Camilla, and Kade were left standing together near the wide marble stairs of the palace entrance.
Damon did not let go of Camilla’s hand immediately.
He stepped a little bit closer to her. He looked down at her hands. The white silk gloves she wore to match her court attire were slightly wrinkled near the wrists from holding her heavy dress.
Damon slowly raised his free hand. He gently took her right wrist. With slow careful movements, he pulled the edge of her white glove, smoothing out the wrinkles. He adjusted the fabric so it sat perfectly against her skin. He did the exact same thing for her left hand.
His touch was so gentle and attentive.
After adjusting her gloves, Damon did not step back. He bent his tall body down slightly. He brought his face very close to her ear, keeping his voice low so the passing palace guards would not hear him.
"I’m going now, my little Raven," Damon whispered softly. His voice carried a warm protective tone.
He looked toward the large, beautiful green gardens located on the left side of the massive palace.
"Stay with the other women in the garden," Damon instructed her gently. He wanted to make sure she was safe and comfortable while he dealt with the serious political matters inside. "I will come and get you when the meeting is over."
Camilla listened to his soft voice. She felt a warm, pleasant flutter in her chest. She liked his quiet protectiveness.
Camilla nodded her head slowly. "I will," she agreed softly.
Damon looked at the palace doors. The building was huge, filled with hundreds of confusing hallways and rooms. He worried that she might get lost.
Damon looked back at her.
"Should Kade go with you to show you the way?" Damon asked. He offered his most trusted personnel to act as her personal guide and guard.
Camilla quickly shook her head from side to side.
"I will find my way, don’t worry," Camilla replied smoothly.
She did not want an escort. She wanted to walk alone. She naturally preferred to map out new locations, observe exits, and study the environment without anyone following behind her.
To show him she was perfectly fine, Camilla took a tiny step forward. She leaned her upper body up slightly, pushing against the stiff bones of her corset.
She pressed her soft lips gently against his cheek.
It was a quick, sweet kiss, right there in the open royal courtyard.
Standing just two feet away, Kade felt a sudden rush of deep embarrassment. He was a strict soldier, and he was not used to seeing his commanding General receive public displays of romantic affection. Kade quickly turned his head away. He looked up at the blue sky. He looked at the white stone walls of the palace. He tried desperately to distract himself from looking at the couple, pretending to be interested in the palace architecture.
Damon felt the soft kiss on his cheek. He smiled. His eyes sparkled with delight.
"Alright then," Damon said softly, stepping back from her.
He turned his body around to face the main doors of the palace. The happy smile slowly faded, and his strict, serious expression returned. He had to deal with the King and the other lords now.
Damon looked at his aide, who was still staring awkwardly at a stone pillar.
"Let’s go," Damon commanded smoothly.
Kade snapped to attention. He nodded his head firmly. "Yes, General."
Damon marched up the wide marble stairs, his boots making loud, steady sounds. Kade followed closely behind him, holding the folder of military reports.
Camilla stood in the courtyard. She watched Damon’s back until he disappeared through the doors of the palace entrance.
Once he was gone, Camilla turned her body toward the side entrance that led to the waiting areas and the royal gardens.
She lifted the skirts of her silk dress. She walked slowly and gracefully up a smaller set of stone stairs. Two royal guards in shining golden armor stood by the door. When they saw her expensive court attire and confident posture, they bowed deeply and opened the glass doors for her.
Camilla walked into the palace.
As soon as she stepped inside, she stopped moving.
Her eyes widened slightly in amazement. She looked around the grand hallway.
The interior of the royal palace was truly stunning. The floors were made of polished, smooth white marble that reflected the light like a clear mirror. The ceilings were really high, painted with beautiful, detailed pictures of clouds and golden suns. Huge crystal candlelight chandeliers hung from the ceiling, sparkling brightly. Thick, red velvet carpets ran down the center of the long corridors.
Camilla thought to herself, her internal voice filled with genuine awe.
"I never imagined seeing a palace like this," Camilla thought in her mind.
In her modern life, she had seen large mansions, expensive hotels, and shopping malls. But nothing compared to the true, historical grandeur and the solid wealth of this royal palace. Every single detail, from the carved wooden doors to the golden handles, showed immense power and history.
