[Finally, we are gone from that nutcase of a country.] (Syrus)
[Rude. For the most part, it was a lovely place.] (Luna)
[Not saying it was bad. Many big events happened, good time.] (Syrus)
The journey back to their current home. A work trip that was supposed to be kind of like a vacation. A reset for themselves after the repeated mess after mess turned into its own kind of mess.
On the positive side, at least, Syrus had some fun, and Eva got to confront her past traumas. Those were Luna’s thoughts on the matter. Outside of the conflict parts of the trip, Luna did find the experience enjoyable. Being in the commoner position of travelling and experiencing the city as they did wasn’t something possible in her previous life. Though she had found Syrus’s repeated pranks deeply annoying.
While they were walking. Eva decided to divulge a secret that she was unsure whether it was a good idea or not.
[Heh… I even had the idea of possibly combining my names…] (Eva)
[Like Lilla? Eilly?] (Syrus)
[Ev’illy? Lilva?] (Luna)
Suddenly, Syrus and Luna felt a surge of embarrassment from the youngest. [I… I was leaning towards Ev’illy, but it is a kind of stupid name.] (Eva)
[To be honest, yeah, you are basically calling yourself Eva.] Syrus waved their hand around. [With your appearance as well, you would be walking straight into a hole with that combo.]
[It certainly would be a choice…] (Luna)
[Evalilly, just smashing the two together would work better.] (Syrus)
[I know…] The embarrassment only grew stronger. [I was… just trying to be clever.]
…
Luna was trying really hard not to laugh.
[Haha! Well, on the positive side, that is a fun story.] Something that Syrus wasn’t trying to do at all.
Eva’s comment did get the two others thinking. They have had this setup for Eva’s name for a long time now. Luna would call her Lilly, and Syrus stuck with Eva. An act done to help the girl mend the girl’s two different lives and accept the newest one. Luna and Syrus never found it to be a burden. It wasn’t something that could even confuse an outsider since it was something they only used when speaking to each other mentally.
After the laughter settled down.
Syrus asked, [So did you want to change it to something else?]
Syrus figured that, with Eva’s tendency to worry, perhaps she had started to worry that her request with her name was a burden. Which was silly in both Syrus's and Luna’s minds, but the girl had worried about less.
[Sigh… none of them fit. They feel too far away, and even Evalilly, which might be the best, loses the ‘a’ that our parents ended our names with.] (Eva)
[And Lillyeva doesn’t roll off the tongue as well as Evalilly.] (Luna)
[Lilla or Lillva, don’t do it for you?] (Syrus)
[I’m not sure why, but yeah, they don’t.] (Eva)
[How about the good old smack the old one in the middle.] Syrus declared the new name with a striking passion. [Evlillya! Or Elillyva. I prefer the former, to be honest.] (Syrus)
[Why am I annoyed that kind of works?] (Luna)
[Because you underestimate my genius.] (Syrus)
[No. I don’t think that is the case.] (Luna)
It was Eva’s turn to giggle. The joy of chatting with her two sisters, in these quiet moments without the need for conflict, was truly the best time. Syrus’s words had got Eva thinking, and there was something about the name that did strike a chord with her.
So without much thought behind, Eva decided to declare. [Sure, Syrus, I like it. My true name, let it be Evlillya. It’s messy but complete, so it fits me quite well, I say.]
[Still kind of sounds like Evil in a way…] Luna was deeply concerned about the implications. It sounded like a bomb had been planted, and they would never know when it would go off.
[So, do you want us to call you that from now on?] Syrus asked, fully ready to change how she spoke to the youngest permanently.
[No.] (Evalilly)
[Please, keep referring me to how you always did.] Eva smiled. [I do like it that way. Makes me feel like me.]
The confidence in Eva’s words did leave the other two momentarily stunned.
[If you just want us to keep referring to you in the same manner, then what was the point?] (Luna)
[What is the point of life in general? The question does allude to us all.] (Eva)
[Don’t suddenly go philosophical.] (Luna)
[A philosophical Eva… truly working with the new name already.] (Syrus)
[Don’t divert your eyes, Syrus.] (Luna)
[Ehh.] Syrus shrugged. [I don’t see any harm. But if we aren’t going to use the name, when do you ever plan on using it?]
Eva hummed for a moment. Actually thinking about it this time. [If we ever need to sign proper legal documents as the three of us, it’s possible then.]
[When would that ever happen…] (Luna)
[Outside of that, a new personal disguise.] Eva smirked. [I will start planning it out now.]
[Didn’t we just make a few…?] Luna recalled the many different ones they used during their time navigating and hiding in the city.
[We had many disposable ones, but we only really made one proper new disguise. It had an identity and everything.] (Syrus)
[An identity that we will likely not be able to use again.] (Luna)
[Fifty/fifty that if we use it again, it will blow up in our face. Hundred percent chance that if we use it anywhere nearby, it will cause chaos.] (Syrus)
[Such a useful disguise, now labelled as a terrorist.] (Luna)
[Or a hero, depending on how you look at it. Either way, you have actually reinforced Eva’s point. It is the perfect time to craft another disguise.]
Eva interrupted, her voice stern. [This is going to be a personal one. So don’t think about dragging it into another mess like what just happened.]
[I promise–unless I have your permission–I won’t be assassinating anyone with your Evlillya disguise.] (Syrus)
[Syrus!] (Luna)
[Good enough.] (Eva)
[Lilly!] (Luna)
They were still a while off from returning home, but at the bare minimum, they were having some fun again. Even if there were things for them to worry about, they were ready to enjoy life for at least a moment.
