The journey back to their current home went by without any discord. A nice carefree trip.
When Anlesa arrived back, there was a small amount of fanfare. Her acquaintances from the Hunter Guild, Ash, Elly and the children. They were all excited to see her return safely. There were also some annoying discussions with some management from the other Hunter Guilds in the city due to the longer stays of Lavender and Maca. The latter had sent a letter back to the city to let them know he was safe.
There was no additional information on why or how he was at Eletscoep in his origin letters, and the staff were kind of hoping Syrus had some answers, but they got nothing from her.
Lavender and Maca were both strong individuals that the armed forces in the city liked to have in their back pockets in case something came up. Maca was much stronger and was useful in many more situations, but thanks to Lavender’s Attribute, she was very effective at dealing with specific deadly problems.
Despite the initial wave of welcomes.
Life in Arisea Station had returned to a somewhat normalcy. There was a routine and activities Anlesa regularly performed, and the occasional extra activity whenever they needed to do something else required of them.
Today, Eva spent most of the day at her laboratory table. Only leaving to have a nice lunch with Ash before going back to work. There were a few items on the agenda today.
First was batch-making a bunch of healing potions and other medicines to sell. The bonus they received for their ‘escort’ job was nothing to sneeze at, but that didn’t mean they were going to rest on the gold. The money was better used on the children and Elly, but they did split a portion for personal use.
Syrus had a few items that she would like to commission eventually, so did Eva, there were a few pieces of lab equipment that she wanted to customise for her experiments.
Speaking of her experiments, that led to the second goal of the day, further experiments on the Redux Crystal in their possession. It still hadn’t lost its energy, which was the most magical part in Eva’s opinion. She had been trying to find the best method to extract the useful energy without harming the crystal, but having a goal in a scientific experiment didn’t mean everything would go that well.
Still, it appeared they had appeared to have kept the crystal in mostly good condition.
They all felt it was slightly weaker, but Luna considered even that extremely impressive. She had heard of natural objects containing energy, though the Redux Crystals were certainly not within the norm of that type of classification. But when these objects found their way into human hands, in most instances they lost their energy quickly due to whatever use man had decided was best.
This Redux Crystal wasn’t an exception either. The trio studied it and firmly believed they could absorb all the energy from it using their abilities, and it would provide them a boost to their strength; the crystal would be destroyed.
So development continued in the middle ground of Eva’s Redux Potion.
She knew she would never have the chance to show these potions to the world, but she was deeply proud of them. They were her first fully unique potions made through her own discoveries, trials, and research.
Syrus and Luna watched on as Eva continued experiment after experiment. Today she had two goals with the Redux Crystals.
An enhanced healing potion and version five Redux Potion.
The former was simple. A better healing potion could save lives. Likely, it wouldn't need to be used on them, but if it did, it would be extra effective. No, her main purpose was to create something that could be gifted to others in dire circumstances. She remembered Alba as the absolute damage his body had been tormented with. A potion that could’ve at least helped him recover faster… She wished she had something like that on her at the time.
The Redux Crystals were already a useful healing source. If not slow, but its natural properties could be the dream ingredient for new and improved healing potions. This one hurt more. Knowing she could never show this off to the world, as its main ingredient was the lifeblood of a Demon Home.
And despite the benefits of a successful potion would be. The recipe could cause more conflict than Eva didn’t want to happen. Some of the demons might welcome it, but Eva still chooses not to.
Liquid slowly dripped into the bowl. Each dropped sparkle with a crimson light, and the pool of liquid that was slowly filling pulsed with a quiet light with each drop.
Eva had tried simply adding her basic Redux Crystal extract to a healing potion, and that technically worked, but it wasn’t what she would call a true enhanced healing potion. She wanted something that would truly be an improvement on the basic formula, not just the equivalent of taking two medicines to help deal with a pain. Replacing aspects of her standard potion-making process with the Redux extract had various results, some good, others a complete failure.
It had been a long cycle.
But Eva wasn’t going to give up. Even if she wasn’t successful today, she had her notes, and she would keep improving on the process.
The other potion she was working on simultaneously was going mostly the same. Interesting results, but no real success.
One of the difficulties when making the Redux Potions was that testing them required direct consumption. With the healing potion, of course, drinking it was certainly an important aspect of testing the effects, but there were a few tests that could be performed to examine the effects without drinking. Corrosive testing and seeing what occurs when it interacts with acid and blood were common. There was also a coral rock called clamstone that, in most situations, grew when in contact with a healing potion.
Each sample of a Redux Potion impacted future tests. Even if the effects were weak, there was still an impact on her system, which could pollute future tests. If a potion was truly effective, then there was also a cooldown. Some versions of the portion really couldn’t be consumed in close proximity to each other. However, it was hard to determine that without suffering through the testing process.
This all caused the actual testing of the Redux Potions to be deeply slow. Along with all the normal potion problems of working with a new type of ingredient, it was at least fun, unlike the physical pains they could get with the potion tasting.
The light of the sky began to fade.
[You should rest, Lilly.] Luna said with concern.
[We feel fine.] Eva replied, still determined to work on her potions for a few more hours. She had been given permission today, and she wasn’t going to waste it by being tired.
[But your personal mental state can get exhausted, but yeah, she will be fine for antler while Luna. Don’t worry too much.] (Syrus)
[Sigh…] Luna didn’t know what else to say.
Eventually, the day finished with mixed results and exhausted Anlesa face-planting onto the bed.
