“Yo! Is the red-head who can stab someone with their eyes around?” A familiar voice from a familiar person with an unfamiliar request.

The people within the guild looked at each other. By that description, only one person really matched. Sure, there were multiple people with different shades of red hair, but only one had the power of a non-physical stab. She didn’t possess it all the time, but when she did, someone had a high chance of dying if they got on her bad side, figuratively dying at least.

“Thanks, I can hear you.” Syrus walked out of the back room for the umpteenth time this week. Reading to stab someone.

Unfortunately, she had been in the backroom a lot recently. None of those times were her fault, but unlike the time with the former knights from across the sea, she was involved in the incidents that caused them.

After initially dealing with Fabien when he was inside the guild. That little factoid had spread around. The replacement of Maca while he was on a long, extended job. That kind of title caused curious eyes to drift, and dubious intentions to come on knocking.

So people started fights.

The ones that lost were evident, but it still required an account of disciplinary action. Mostly because they were attacking Syrus because of the guild’s work that they placed on her. If it was just a normal drunk fight, it wouldn’t have moved to a backroom talk, but the guild wanted to put their foot down when it came to this type of behaviour. Faiben’s behaviour was the push that made the guild stern themselves when it came to conflict with their staff. The city still had issues and minor conflicts because of the damage the city had suffered—even if it was moments away from the seal of recovery.

Out of the people who started fights. Some did try asking what Maca was up to. Since people at least knew that the two of them knew each other—they didn’t know exactly where Maca was or that he ended up being involved in the mission to Eletscoep—so Syrus and Lavender ended up being the best people to ask. Though Lavender was also away frequently recently.

Did Anlesa end up spilling the beans? Nope. Told them to fuck off or that she didn’t know. She kept it simple and professional.

The guild knew where he was. Because they knew where the letters were sent from, but they were going to break individual hunters' trust. There were situations where they could reveal that situation, but none had come up.

“Was calling out necessary?” Syrus rolled her and cracked her neck by pulling her head to the left.

“Eh, I didn't know exactly where you were. I wasn’t going to try looking.” Lavender shrugged. “Heard about the chaos. Seems like you have been busy.” Lavender's eyes passed over the people resting within the guild. Some tensed up as her eyes washed over them, guilty of the rumour she had heard.

“How long have you even been in the city?”

“Long enough.”

“Well, how about I send them your way instead?”

An audible gulp was heard across the building.

“Sure, happy to help.”

Someone started coughing and nearly choked. Saved by the person who was sitting next to them.

“I think the people here would love that.” The members of the guild felt they saw a flare burn in Syrus’s eyes. This got many to rethink their previous week’s choices, and they decided that they would warn people once they left.

People were terrified to fight Lavender. People knew what her attribute was, and no one was willing to deal with that. Besides what they could see, she never gave details on what it could do. And people knew she had killed animals with the poison, she ain’t no one was taking the risk of pissing her off and having her ‘accidentally’ throw some deadly poison at them.

The two of them ended up exiting the building. The conversation was likely going to lead to more private matters, so they both knew it would be best to have it in a less public place.

“So, was it really that loud?” Syrus asked.

“Oh yeah, basically as soon as I went back and said hello to a few people. They were all eager to tell me about your recent accomplishments.”

“Bloody dammit, they still haven’t learned their lessons.” Syrus clicked her tongue, deciding that perhaps she should organise a training session with some people.

“I doubt everyone who talked to me was beaten up by you.”

“Still, they should’ve learned a lesson to be quiet.”

They turned a corner and entered a nice private alley. Far enough from the streets and a conversation quiet enough that someone would need to have certain attributes or be like Syrus to spy on their conversation without being noticed. Though neither planned on saying anything dangerous, but privacy was nice.

“Curious

“Don’t dangle the topic like it is some kind of fancy bait.” Syrus groaned, “I will just wait for the letters.”

“Tch, no fun.” Lavender sighed dramatically. “Yep, they are all good. To the surprise of no one.”

“Figured.”

“Though Maca has been given the title of Unofficial Official Guard of Maryelle.”

“What?”

[That…] (Eva)

[Someone has to be joking…] (Luna)

“Yep. He still wanted to return here, and a bunch of other reasons prevented him from being the actual personal guard of the well, the royal family. So he was given a unique role that allowed him to be their personal guard and be treated as such whenever he was in the area, unless stated otherwise by the royal family.”

“There had to be a better way… of something…” Luna couldn’t help but say.

“Maybe, but this way is funnier.”

Syrus chuckled. “Cannot deny that.”

Lavender pulled the cap off her waterskin and took a big sip before counting. “But yeah… the boys are both doing fine. Ethan has been keeping up with training. His exact words were ‘I cannot let Syrus down’ so be proud of that. The boy’s determination made some of the guards self-conscious."

“That is their own fault.”

“One hundred-precent.” Lavender smirked. She wished Syrus could’ve actually seen it, as she couldn’t give the situation justice. “Max, or what he is sometimes called, Maximus. Yep, he got a slightly unofficial name change. Mostly because a few people just started calling him that, because they felt calling the prince ‘Max’ was unprofessional.” She raised her finger before Syrus commented. “But the kid is doing well. Way too much studying. I don’t understand most of the stuff when I look over his shoulder a few times, but he wants to do more, and is working towards that.”

Syrus leaned against the wall. “Well. Good to hear then. How about Mary?”

“Also well.” Lavender’s eyes darted away. “Maybe a little overworked, but she has already been told off, so she should be fine before I see her again.”

“By that comment, I am guessing you won’t be here for long?”

“A few weeks, enough time to catch up on anything I missed. But they do want me back, I have been helping in some investigation because of my own unique gifts.”

Even while helping with the investigation, Lavender never provided the full details of her Attribute. But she had done enough that she had been very helpful even with just her insight.

“Makes sense. Well, thanks for the updates.” Syrus pointed to the exit of the alley. “Want to go over lunch?”

“Sure, but you are paying. I didn’t bring my wallet.”

“You owe me for next time.”

“I’ll try not to forget.”

“If you do forget, then prepare for the next lunch we share for your meal to be a pile of rocks.”

“Delectable.” Lavender licked her lips, and Syrus rolled her eyes.
