Thankfully, they were indeed not blamed for any destruction that happened to the shops. Obviously because they had nothing to do with the buildings breaking, but also because the one person who was thinking about trying to pin the blame on them was smacked over the head by a neighbouring shop owner.
Why the buildings fell apart was a mystery. If there was an answer, it hadn’t be given to Anlesa and she was unsure if they actually cared to find out. Even Eva’s curiosity was squashed by the sheer timing of the situation.
It still caused Syrus’s plans to be put on the shelf for the time being, but there had items on their list to do so life continue to move on without issue—
“Syrus!”
—Ash called to the woman who was just minding their own business shopping, again.
[...] (Eva)
[Based on previous experience, this can only go well.] (Luna)
[It… can be alright?] (Eva)
After Syrus’s ‘problem’ yesterday and the last time Ash had called out to them, they had a feeling everything was going to go swimmingly.
“There was an incident in Cancole territory, a mine collapsed, and there has been an urgent request for medicine supplies.”
“So you're calling out to me because?”
“There is a mass request for medicine and potion supplies, and you are on the list of people I know who haven't heard the message.”
“Fair.” Syrus shrugged. “Follow, and I will check out my stockpile but I doubt it is much because I sold a number recently.” A lot of the potion-making time and resources had been used on other projects, but Ash didn’t need to know that.
The moment they were away from the public eye, Syrus asked, “So they need medicine, but don't they have a supply in Cancole, anywhere?”
“I have only heard the murmurs from the people that have read the reports. Apparently, the supply the mining operation contained was a combination of not enough and expired.” Ash sighed, “I am assuming they are trying to get medicine from around Cancole as well, but apparently the damage is severe, and they are still trying to reopen the mine after the collapse.”
“So is there a request for a rescue operation as well?”
“I think that is being directly handled by the Cancole.”
“There was an announcement at the guild for medicine, because we got the numbers they are requesting, and from the stock the three guilds have for such a situation isn’t enough to cover everything. Let alone the fact that the guilds also aren’t comfortable using their entire stock for such an event.” Ash clicked her tongue. “Which is mighty fair; their own supply is for their own people and the city primarily. “The potion-making companies have already sold what they could. The situation was a good one to make a profit.”
“From what I heard, I’m going to guess that their supplies weren't large either.” Anlesa heard that a few people from the different companies had left the city after the incident. This impacted the manufacturing process. Syrus had gotten some job offers during this time, which she turned down every time, as such an arrangement would be too restrictive.
“That is corrected.”
“So are the hunter guilds paying directly for freelancer potions for this?”
“Yes, on Cancole’s credit. To an extent anyway. Cancole sent over a Bookkeeper who is approving the purchases, but the guilds are chipping in. The potions they have used from their own stockpiles are technically given away for free. Situations like this are always a good chance to keep up the goodwill with our closest neighbour.”
“Fair enough,” Anlesa agreed with the sentiment.
Ash added, remembering details she missed from Syrus’s earlier question. “While the rescue operation will be handled by Cancole, there are still people being hired for the actual transport mission.” Ash flicked her gaze to look at the main street to see any changes. “I heard one cart has already left, with a second supposedly leaving momentarily.”
“Sending out in batches makes sense. Safer and quicker to at least get some amount of supply.” Syrus agreed with the logic.
They reached Syrus’s house and the duo went inside, and Anlesa checked her supplies. The supplies for the Redux potion were hidden, so even if someone snuck in, they wouldn't find those on a cursory glance.
“Yeah, I don’t have too much, but I got the ingredients; I can complete another batch.” Syrus asked, “How many more batches do they plan on sending out?”
Ash tapped her chin as she thought. “Depends on when they meet the quote. I think we are only at 50%, but that was using percentages of the stockpile. So everything is likely to be made to order.”
Eva said, “I see. Well, give me a couple of hours, and I can provide some.”
“Hours?” Ash raised an eyebrow at that timeframe. It was far quicker than would be expected for such a proportion. She was worried Syrus might cut corners to provide the needed amount.
Eva clarified, “While I don't have the potions made. I have early stages of the potion prepped. They can be used for various purposes after all, but converting them directly to healing potions isn’t too hard. Just means I have completed a number of the steps ahead of time.”
“Oh, that is good.”
Eva carefully pulled out the potion supplies and placed them on the table. “If you head back, can you inform them I will try to supply some by the end of the day?”
“Sure, I can do that.” Ash instantly agreed. “I will be going now anyway. I am helping organise the supplies.”
“Put a good word in for me, and I might even split some of the profits.”
Ash giggled, “Sure, but I believe I won’t need to say anything.”
She left the building, and Eva immediately got to work.
[We should be able to make a small profit.] (Syrus)
[Don’t try to distract Lilly too much.] (Luna)
[It’s fine. What I am doing is very simple.] (Eva)
Eva continued her work without being distracted, while Luna and Syrus discussed the situation. Both agreed that the situation was deeply unfortunate for the people involved, but were both impressed with the speed and process Cancole had for requesting aid from its neighbour. Though the situation didn’t seem exactly too far, as Cancole hadn’t provided really any support after Arisea Station was attacked.
“Okay, done.” Eva placed down all her potions onto a small wooden pallet designed to hold them. “Time to get paid.”
Anlesa left the house, locked everything and made her way to the guild where Ash told her the sales were occurring.
Once they were there, everything happened smoothly.
They were able to sell the potions and get paid instantly. With the process over, they started walking towards the exit of the guild. Not wanting to stick around and take up space when people were worried about trying to keep things organised.
“Hunter Syrus!” A guild staffer called out to them as they neared the exit.
“Pardon?” After a very hurried pitch on the guild staffer’s end, Syrus was tasked with helping escort the next batch of medicine to the mines of Cancole.
