Chapter 416: Crystal Falls

The wind roared in Kyle’s ears as he plummeted three hundred feet through the misty spray of the Obsidian Falls. The thunder of tumbling water echoed off the sheer cliff walls, masking the sound of his descent.

Below, the five Obsidian Spine-Stalkers lay sprawled across the mossy rocks surrounding the ancient brass gate. Their three-foot crystal tail-spikes pulsed with a deep, violet spatial light, casting eerie geometric shadows across the wet stone.

[Distance to impact: eighty feet,] Snow’s voice chimed with pristine clarity. [Host velocity: high. Recommending kinetic dampening via Abyssal Talon Manifest.]

Kyle focused his mana.

**[Abyssal Talon Manifest]**

The dark shadow-essence wrapped tight around his right leg, transforming his boot into a heavy, razor-edged claw of condensed void-energy.

Fifty feet. Thirty feet.

Kyle angled his body in midair, aiming directly for the largest beast—the Alpha—a massive creature nineteen feet from nose to tail, its hide made of cracked obsidian plates that oozed purple spatial smoke.

"Up here, ugly!" Kyle roared over the crashing water.

The Alpha’s ears twitched. Its glowing violet eyes snapped upward just as Kyle struck.

*BOOM!*

Kyle’s shadow-infused right heel slammed square into the Alpha’s thick shoulder blade. The kinetic impact shattered the stone platform beneath them, sending a massive shockwave of water, shattered rock, and violet sparks flying in every direction.

**[Passive Proc: Soul Rend + 25% Armor Bypass]**

A sickening crunch echoed above the roar of the falls. The Alpha let out a deafening, guttural screech of pain as the dark ghostly mark of **[Soul Rend]** flared on its neck. The impact caved in three of its obsidian ribs, driving the massive beast flat onto its belly against the wet earth.

The other four Spine-Stalkers leapt to their feet instantly, their crystal tail-spikes whistling as they whipped through the air, launching a volley of razor-sharp spatial glass shards straight at the intruder.

"Not today!"

Kyle planted his left foot, using the baseline agility boost from his talon to spring backward, executing a tight backflip. The spatial shards slammed into the rock where he had been standing a millisecond prior, slicing deep, clean trenches into the solid stone.

Kyle landed smoothly on a slippery boulder fifty paces away, his right leg dripping with dark shadow mist.

The injured Alpha pushed itself up, its violet eyes burning with absolute, murderous fury. It let out a blood-curdling roar that rattled the loose gravel on the cliffside, signaling to its pack.

"Oh, no you don’t," Kyle muttered, thrusting both palms forward.

**[Dark Flames (Lv 5): Divergence Flames]**

[Consuming 200 Demon Energy...]

Two roaring dragons of pitch-black fire erupted from Kyle’s hands. They didn’t hit the Alpha—they shot directly behind it, exploding in a wall of dark, hungry flames between the Alpha and its four pack-mates. The sheer thermal intensity of the first great demon’s fire blinded the smaller beasts, forcing them to leap backward into the river mist.

"Your fight is with me!" Kyle shouted, turning his back on the gate and sprinting at full speed down the eastern riverbank, away from the ruins.

The enraged Alpha didn’t care about the gate anymore. It wanted the creature that had shattered its shoulder. It bounded after Kyle, its heavy stone paws shattering boulders with every stride as it pursued him deeper into the misty ravine.

Up on the cliff plateau, Elara watched the black flames erupt in the basin below. "He pulled the Alpha! Move!"

Yua was already airborne.

She vaulted over the edge of the plateau, her dark cloak streaming behind her like wings. She landed lightly as a feather on the wet stones forty feet from the four remaining Spine-Stalkers, her soft boots making no sound against the rocks.

Behind her, Marcus and the hardiest refugees slid down the dirt embankment using old ropes, carrying heavy wooden beams and iron crowbars scavenged from the sanctuary.

The four smaller Spine-Stalkers turned toward Yua, their crystal tails rattling like rattlesnakes as they smelled her pureblood essence.

"Stay away from the gate," Yua whispered, her voice dangerously calm.

Her dark eyes bled into a brilliant, luminous crimson. The subtle fangs over her lower lip gleamed in the violet spatial light.

**[Blood Edge]**

Two high-density crimson blades materialized in her hands, hardened from her own vital fluid.

The first stalker lunged, its jaw open wide, revealing rows of serrated crystal teeth.

Yua didn’t even flinch.

**[Crimson Step]**

She vanished in a flash of sweet-smelling red mist.

The stalker’s jaws snapped shut on thin air. Before it could register the trick, Yua materialized directly above its neck. She brought both blood-blades down in a violent, cross-shaped strike.

*SLASH!*

The crimson glass severed the beast’s head cleanly from its stone torso. Blue, spatial-infused blood sprayed across the rocks as the body collapsed into the rushing river.

"Three left," Yua murmured, flicking the blood from her blades with a cold, graceful motion.

On the far side of the basin, Elara landed near the massive brass archway. Her hands were blazing with intense orange fire as she began clearing the thick, frozen vines and moss choking the gate’s manual alignment levers.

"Marcus! Get the people into the archway alcove!" Elara shouted over the roar of the waterfall. "The moment the core is set, the spatial displacement will throw a shockwave! Stand behind the brass pillars!"

"Right!" Marcus yelled, waving the forty-seven refugees into the sheltered recesses of the ancient stone structure. "Inside! Move, move, move!"

A quarter-mile down the riverbank, the fight was brutal.

Kyle ducked under a sweeping strike from the Alpha’s crystal tail. The heavy spike grazed his shoulder, tearing a strip of fabric from his shirt, but his **[Demon Scales]** absorbed the worst of the physical friction, leaving only a shallow red scratch that began medium-regeneration instantly.

The Alpha was fast, but it was bleeding heavily from the **[Hemorrhage]** Kyle had inflicted with his first strike.

[Host Demon Energy: 2300/2500,] Snow reported. [Target vitality is dropping rapidly. Recommend executing high-impact physical finisher.]

’Got it,’ Kyle thought.

He stopped running, turning to face the charging nineteen-foot beast head-on.

The Alpha leaped, its jaws wide, intending to crush Kyle under its immense weight.

Kyle didn’t dodge. He activated his passive combat focus, his eyes tracking every micro-movement of the beast’s descending body through his **[Kirlin Eyes]**.

**[Light Combat Skill: Basic]**

Kyle slid beneath the leaping Alpha’s belly, the cold spray of the river soaking his back. As the massive beast passed directly over him, Kyle drove his right leg upward with everything he had.

**[Abyssal Talon Manifest + Passive Proc: Abyssal Reflex]**

A spectral shadow claw three times the size of his foot erupted from his dark Talon, driving straight into the soft, unarmored underbelly of the Alpha.

*THWACK!*

The shadow claw tore through the beast’s internal organs, dealing 120% bonus damage. The Alpha let out a strangled, dying shriek as it crashed heavily onto the riverbank, skidding thirty feet before coming to a dead stop against a massive boulder.

A large, perfectly spherical crystal—shimmering with a blinding, deep violet spatial light—rolled out from the shattered scales of its chest, coming to a rest in the shallow water.

[Target neutralized,] Snow confirmed. [High-Density Spatial Mana Core acquired.]

Kyle pushed himself up, panting slightly as he walked over and scooped the heavy, pulsing crystal out of the water. It was warm to the touch, humming with the exact energy needed to breach atmospheric sectors.

"One high-density core," Kyle breathed out, a weary grin touching his face.

*"You fight well when you aren’t crying about your little human friends,"* the root-deer’s voice purred softly in his mind, light and mocking. *"Keep the crystal for yourself, Kyle. Eat it. Expand the seal. Why give it to a gate?"*

’I’m getting us off this realm,’ Kyle thought back coldly, wrapping the glowing crystal in a strip of cloth from his ruined sleeve. ’End of story.’

He turned and sprinted back toward the falls at top speed.

When he reached the basin, the fight was already over. Yua was standing on the corpse of the last Spine-Stalker, wiping a thin line of red from her lips. The remaining two beasts had fled into the dark forest, terrified by the slaughter of their pack.

"You took your time," Yua said, her crimson eyes softening back into their natural dark hue as she saw him approaching. She stepped off the beast and walked toward him, her hand instinctively taking his.

"Had to make sure the Alpha didn’t come back for seconds," Kyle said, holding up the glowing violet core. "Got the fuel."

Elara ran over from the brass gate, her face lit by the orange glow of her fire magic. "Bring it here! Fast!"

Kyle, Yua, and Elara ran up the ancient stone steps to the central console of the Smugglers’ Conduit. In the center of the brass altar was a circular socket surrounded by ancient, spinning runic rings.

Kyle didn’t hesitate. He jammed the high-density spatial core straight into the socket.

*CLICK.*

For a second, nothing happened.

Then, the entire mountain range seemed to hold its breath.

A deep, reverberating hum rose from the depths of the earth. The ancient brass rings around the archway began to spin rapidly, locking into alignment one by one. A pillar of blinding, silver-and-blue spatial light erupted from the center of the gate, shooting high into the night sky and tearing a clean, circular rift through the clouds above.

Inside the archway, the space folded in on itself, revealing a view of a vast, star-filled void orbiting a massive, purple-and-green gas giant—Planet Kraken.

"CONDUIT IS ONLINE!" Elara yelled over the deafening hum of the portal. "COORDINATES LOCKED TO KRAKEN OUTER ORBIT!"

"Marcus! Get everyone through!" Kyle ordered, waving his hand toward the archway.

Marcus nodded fiercely. "You heard him! Into the light! Move, move, move!"

The forty-seven refugees didn’t hesitate. They held hands, stepping through the shimmering silver curtain of light. One by one, their bodies dissolved into harmless spatial particles, instantly transported across the dimensional rift toward the off-world sector.

Within three minutes, all forty-seven refugees were through.

Elara stood at the threshold, looking back one last time at the misty mountains of the Clover Council Domain—the realm where she had grown up, and the realm she was now leaving behind forever.

She looked at Kyle and Yua, a genuine, relieved smile breaking across her face. "See you on the other side, guys."

She stepped backward into the light and vanished.

Kyle turned to Yua. The wind from the portal whipped her dark hair around her face, making her look breathtaking in the silver light. He reached out, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her close against his chest.

"Ready for Planet Kraken?" he asked softly.

Yua rested her hands against his chest, looking up into his eyes with absolute trust. "As long as I’m with you, Kyle, I don’t care where we go."

Deep within his chest, the amber crystal gave one quiet, defeated throb, completely smothered by the roaring spatial energy of the gate.

Kyle smiled, squeezed Yua tight against his side, and together, they stepped through the shimmering veil of light.

The silver portal snapped shut behind them, leaving the Obsidian Falls silent once more under the starry night sky.
