True Incubus: The Demon with No Limits

Chapter 235: Evelyn’s Determination.

Knock Knock Knock

While Vivienne was resting in her room, she heard a knock. It was an everyday occurrence, so she did not care. She would take the food later. With that thought in her head, Vivienne kept her eyes closed and did not move.

But then—

Knock Knock Knock

The person outside knocked again.

Vivienne opened her eyes. Since she felt generous, she did not move, waiting for the person outside to understand their mistake and leave.

But—

Knock Knock Knock

Her eyes turned cold.

No one.

Absolutely no one was allowed to knock on Vivienne’s door like that.

Vivienne had created a clear system.

One knock meant breakfast had arrived.

Two meant lunch.

Three meant dinner.

A knock followed by a pause, then another knock, meant someone had brought a report.

There were about ten more such patterns. Everyone who worked with Vivienne knew them well.

The Enclave had a simple rule.

Do not disturb Vivienne while she was inside her room.

Vivienne could barely sleep, so when she did, it was better not to wake her up.

There had been consequences in the past.

Consequences no one wanted repeated on them.

But—

Knock Knock Knock

The knock came again. Vivienne’s mouth twitched, she stood up, appeared in front of the door and pulled it open.

"What?"

She spoke in a voice so cold that any person who heard it would have stiffened.

Then Vivienne saw who it was and she frowned.

"Why are you here?"

She asked in an annoyed tone.

"I need your help."

Evelyn demanded boldly, even though her hands were clenched at her sides.

Vivienne stared at her.

She could hear her racing heartbeat. The girl was clearly intimidated, she had no idea why she tried to keep up this brave front.

Though truthfully, Vivienne actually liked that.

She liked how the girl did not step back even when she was intimidated, however, right now, that same trait irritated her.

"The Enclave should have assigned someone for you to contact whenever Lucian is unavailable."

"They did."

"Then speak to that person."

She dismissed her, ready to close the door, but—

"I already did."

Evelyn answered hurriedly.

"She said my request could not be fulfilled since there are no available Hunters."

Vivienne raised an eyebrow at that.

She understood the problem. The Enclave obviously did not have Hunters because of the Trial. Those who were available must have been assigned to other cases, so until the Trial was over, the Enclave truly was shorthanded.

But...

"So you came to me?"

Vivienne was now even more annoyed.

"Yes."

Evelyn only nodded, not thinking about what Vivienne was thinking right now since that terrified her.

Vivienne narrowed her eyes as she stared at her.

Evelyn held her gaze.

And Vivienne realised it.

The singer’s expression was familiar. Vivienne had seen it a few times before.

She only showed this brave, stubborn side of herself when the matter involved Lucian.

And that made her sigh.

"What do you want?"

She asked.

"Lucian is fighting."

Evelyn answered instantly.

Vivienne frowned, but the singer did not care.

"He has been using Demonic Energy, a large amount of it, continuously. He must be fighting something. I just don’t know who since he should be guarding the Trial—"

"He is not guarding the Trial, he’s inside it."

Vivienne revealed the truth.

"...what?"

Evelyn blinked.

"He ignored his orders and entered Aevrienne’s Trial."

Vivienne leaned against the doorframe.

"Why?"

Evelyn frowned.

"They say a friend of his was suspected to be inside before the Trial started. He went in to find her."

The instant Evelyn heard those words, her expression changed.

Naomi.

The name instantly came to her mind.

Other than her, she was his only ’friend’ for whom Lucian would do something like this.

Not to mention, she also remembered Lucian mentioning a strange Shrine Naomi used to visit on weekends.

If they were the same...

Then Naomi might be stuck inside.

"Why wasn’t I informed?"

She asked directly.

"Perhaps they did not consider you important enough."

Vivienne shrugged. She was still mildly annoyed since she couldn’t get back to sleep. Her answer frustrated Evelyn even more. She wanted to argue, but for now, she forced all her anger and frustration down.

Her feelings did not matter right now.

Lucian’s safety was the prime concern.

Especially if Naomi was with him. Evelyn had seen how Lucian became when it came to protecting someone, she had firsthand experience with that.

She knew Lucian usually saved as much energy as possible, but if he was spending his energy like this—

Then it meant he was being pushed to his limits.

He was in danger.

"I need to help him."

Evelyn spoke as her eyes burned with desperation.

"And how do you intend to do that?"

Vivienne asked curiously.

"A street concert."

She answered instantly and Vivienne’s expression changed a little. She understood the plan immediately. She wanted to hold a concert, gather Energy of Desire and send it to Lucian through their Contract.

Of course, she would need a large audience for that to be possible, but that wasn’t a problem for someone like Evelyn.

If she went out onto the street today, she could gather a crowd of thousands within minutes.

But an unplanned street concert would create chaos, a crowd would gather, and while Evelyn’s normal security could take care of that, there was also the risk of Evelyn being exposed to the Supernatural World and...

This was where Vivienne was needed.

Evelyn had woken Vivienne from her sleep so she could be her bodyguard.

And Vivienne—

"No."

She answered very clearly.

"What?"

Evelyn blinked.

"Lucian disobeyed a direct order. He was assigned to guard the Shrine from outside. He chose to enter, that was his decision.

I have no reason to rescue him from the consequences.

Besides, if he requires my help every time he encounters someone stronger than him, then perhaps he is not worthy of the effort I have invested in him."

Vivienne spoke coldly and Evelyn—

"Can you just stop lying!?"

Something inside her snapped.
