True Incubus: The Demon with No Limits
Chapter 252: A Demon in Human’s Skin."Why in the hell would I target that monster?
Do you take me for a fool?"
"...huh?"
For a good few seconds, Lucian couldn’t even react.
"...you are surprisingly sensible."
Isolde nodded knowingly.
As someone who had heard about Rhydan, she knew how correct that single decision was. Varek stared at her with the same frown.
Just... what was wrong with these people?
Why were they talking about the Wolf all of a sudden?
Wait...
Was he nearby?
No, that was not possible.
The instant Varek heard about the Trial, the first thing he did was bring an Artifact that sensed Rhydan specifically.
He didn’t even know whether Rhydan was going to participate in the Trial or not. The only thing he did know was that if he did, he needed to prepare for him.
Rhydan was one of the very few beings of the younger generation that Varek knew he couldn’t defeat, even if he absorbed power from every single person inside the Trial.
Honestly, Varek was glad that the other monsters did not show up. Only Rhydan did.
He did not want to be in a closed environment together with any of them.
While Varek thought about all those monsters, Lucian stared at him with a dubious look on his face.
The cold feeling he was experiencing disappeared almost instantly.
Then, he felt relieved as the ugly image in his head disappeared.
Rhydan was fine.
Well, of course he was. Honestly, Lucian should have known better. The Wolf was probably somewhere else in the maze, happily beating another unfortunate candidate.
But the next second, as Lucian’s mind returned to reality, it began to sink in.
This man...
He refused to fight Rhydan...
And Lucian understood that. Rhydan was ridiculously strong, sure.
But...
Lucian still fought him to a draw.
Sure, the first part of the battle did not count. That was merely the Wolf giving him a fighting chance, a pity mercy.
But that changed when Evelyn sent all this energy to him.
The second round was different.
Rhydan actually fought back then, without holding back, and Lucian did fight him to a draw.
So...
Why was a man who was avoiding Rhydan like the plague now standing in front of him?
"Heh."
Lucian laughed.
To think a man scared of Rhydan was standing arrogantly in front of him. Lucian did not like this one bit.
This man...
He was underestimating him.
And he—
He was going to make him pay for that.
He thought inwardly as his violet eyes glowed.
Varek quickly noticed the change in Lucian’s attitude, then he narrowed his eyes.
"What?"
He asked, sounding a little annoyed.
"Nothing."
Lucian only grinned as he rolled his shoulders. An endless amount of Demonic Energy moved around him, the tension inside his body disappearing.
Sure, Varek might be strong, especially now that he had probably tortured hundreds of other candidates, but still—
Lucian had faced Rhydan.
He knew what monstrous strength truly was.
Whatever power Varek had borrowed through his contract, it was no match for Rhydan’s actual strength.
He wouldn’t lose.
No matter what.
Lucian thought inwardly as his violet eyes shone even more dangerously.
"Heh."
Then suddenly, Varek laughed as well.
"It’s been a while since someone stared at me with those eyes. I usually only see fear."
"That’s because you pick weak targets."
Lucian answered boldly.
"I do pick weak targets.
Why do you think I am here?"
The Vampire smiled.
The Demon smiled as well.
Then—
"This is going to be interesting."
Lucian spoke and the next second, Varek’s figure blurred as he crossed the corridor in an instant.
He was fast.
Much faster than most candidates in the Trial could even react to, even faster than Lucian.
But...
Not faster than Rhydan.
And because he had faced the Wolf, keeping up with his speed wasn’t the most impossible thing for Lucian.
By the time the Vampire’s hand reached for Lucian’s throat—
Lucian was no longer there.
He was hovering above him.
’...what?’
Varek’s eyes changed.
’He’s... flying...?’
How was that even possible?
He had never seen a Demon in a Human body fly so effortlessly.
Sure, he understood that the Demon had taken over the body, but how was the body so perfectly aligned with it?
There were too many questions. Of course, none of that mattered right now, not when the enemy was floating several metres in the air with that insane amount of violet energy surrounding his body.
Varek pushed off the floor and jumped after him. With his speed, he closed the distance almost instantly and tried to punch Lucian.
A violet barrier appeared. Varek grinned as he punched through it, but then—
Another appeared.
Then another.
Another.
And another.
And more and more continued to appear one after another, sucking away all of his fist’s momentum.
By the time his fist broke through the final layer, Lucian had already moved away.
In the end, Varek only landed on the ground.
’Just how many can he summon at the same time?’
He wondered.
Just then—
He turned and saw Lucian standing on the ground.
Varek stared at the Demon and only when the Demon made sure he was looking, he tapped the ground and—
BOOOOM
The floor beneath him exploded.
’...hah? Is he trying to hide?’
The Vampire wondered.
But the next second, hundreds of pieces of stone that had formed unnaturally rose into the air. Varek narrowed his eyes, prepared for the attack. The debris moved towards him, then, at the very last second, he, who was prepared to punch through the stones, instantly covered his eyes.
Small fragments of dust instantly struck his arm.
This Demon...
He was trying to blind him.
How lowly.
The Vampire, however, wasn’t given much time to think because after the dust came the real thing.
The boulders.
BAM
The large boulders crashed into his ribs and shoulders. He twisted aside, avoiding the largest ones.
Just then, another one came from behind. Varek punched and tore it apart. The broken pieces, however, did not fall. They immediately attacked him again.
’...just how many can he control!?’
The Vampire was getting frustrated.
He glared at Lucian with angry eyes but—
That was a mistake.
"AAGGhhh!!"
The debris dust that was on his arm finally managed to enter his eyes, forcing him to rely on his other senses for a while.
Lucian used the chance to move above him, or at least, that’s what Varek thought when he sensed movement there.
But the next second, Lucian appeared right in front of the blinded Vampire and punched his ribs.
One-Inch Dominion.
BOOOOM
The impact was instant.
CRACK
Varek felt multiple ribs cracking, his body flew back and crashed into the wall. Then he fell down.
"Khawwrkkk!"
He coughed out blood.
His regeneration activated immediately, the broken bones beginning to heal at an unnatural speed, much faster than Lucian’s.
But again—
It simply did not matter.
As Varek tried to stand up—
BAM
A large boulder fell on him, driving him deeper into the ground, cracking his spine.
"Kharrrkkkk!!"
He coughed out even more blood.
’W-What the hell—?’
He couldn’t believe it. He barely pushed the stone aside, then, when he finally managed to look, he realised that Lucian was preparing another attack.
He instantly realised that he could not let him do that.
So he extended his hand. Blood burst from the cut on his palm, multiplied as it hovered in the air, then formed several crimson spears.
Whoosh Whoosh Whoosh
The spears shot towards Lucian.
Lucian formed barriers again.
Barriers appeared.
Again, the spears were far more powerful than Lucian’s barriers, but that simply did not matter.
Lucian summoned fifty barriers for every single spear, stopping them all with ease while he just stared at the Vampire with a big, wide grin.
Yes, it was the same grin he had when he was facing Rhydan.
The only difference was that this wasn’t the grin of a warrior enjoying a battle with another warrior.
That was a privilege Lucian showed only to those he considered Warriors.
As for beings like Varek—
The smile was about ending his existence.
He was going to tear him apart.
Lucian’s violet eyes glowed even more strongly.
When Varek saw that, he wasn’t the least bit surprised.
Just as he expected.
He was not a Human.
It was a Demon!
A Demon wearing a Human’s skin.
He was deceiving them all.
Varek used this moment to properly stand up, then the blood spears Lucian had just stopped suddenly turned into thin threads. Dozens of them crawled around the slab, some twisting through the air towards Lucian from several directions.
One went behind him.
A blind spot.
Varek smiled inwardly, making sure he did not show anything to his enemy.
He expected the thread to tie around Lucian’s body and suck his blood out, ending the battle right at that moment, but just as the thread got closer—
Lucian stepped aside, dodging it with ease and Varek—
’He saw that?’
His smile disappeared.
