"YOU ARE DEAD!!"
Varek laughed out loud as he targeted everyone.
Multiple spears rushed towards Naomi, threads moved towards Sabine, ready to capture her, and blades tried to slice Isolde.
And as Lucian focused on protecting his allies, Varek, appearing through his blind spot, punched him.
Lucian’s body was sent flying, he coughed blood, felt the pain of his bones breaking again and the worst part?
He wasn’t given any time to rest.
Varek wasn’t even attacking him when he was down, he just attacked Naomi and the others, knowing Lucian would force himself to move and make a desperate mistake and just like that—
Varek continued bypassing Lucian’s defences, attacking him again and again and again, repeating the same, simple pattern.
Even during the times when Lucian somehow managed to outsmart him and counterattack, taking back some of the advantage, all Varek needed to do was strengthen his onslaught on his allies and that would put Lucian right on the back foot again.
And with that—
Lucian’s situation started becoming worse and worse.
His body started giving in.
Still Pulse was still active, he could still hear everything. Everything that gave him the advantage over Varek still existed. He could hear the vibration of blood moving through the air, he could notice the shifts in Varek’s muscles, he could hear Sabine’s breathing, Isolde’s footsteps, and Naomi’s racing heartbeat.
Every stone around him, every barrier, every attack, he could sense it all and...
That was the exact problem.
There was too much.
Normally, he would have ignored most of this information and focused only on what mattered, but in this situation—
Everything mattered.
He could not ignore anything.
The moment he noticed a needle behind Naomi, he formed a barrier. When he sensed Varek moving to the left, he turned, then blocked the blade rushing towards Isolde with a stone, cut the thread moving towards Sabine with his knife—
After doing everything, once his focus finally returned to Varek, when he sensed where he was—
Varek was usually right next to him.

A fist struck him right in the face, sending him flying.
It was simply too much.
And now, with his body’s condition worsening, Varek was becoming more and more dangerous. Instead of Naomi and the others, he was now targeting Lucian.
Lucian stood up, Varek appeared right behind him, Lucian punched him despite his vision being blurred with blood.

Varek punched his ribs.

His ribs cracked.

He coughed more blood as his body staggered weakly.
Varek’s crimson eyes glowed strongly.

He finally understood how to fight this monster.
Sure, he seemed to have an endless supply of energy and he used that energy well, his awareness was monstrous, his battlefield control was absurd, but...

He controlled what happened around himself.

Varek laughed.
Lucian glared at him with bloodied eyes. A look that would send shivers down anyone’s spine, but not Varek.

The Vampire attacked Naomi again, Lucian blocked. He just attacked again, then again and again and again.
Lucian blocked the entire time, protecting not only Naomi, but all his allies. Though most of his focus was still on Naomi, he had missed a few attacks when it came to Isolde and Sabine, but not Naomi.
Even now, he made sure Naomi was uninjured.
And that’s what he continued doing.
Blocking and blocking everything Varek threw at Naomi, going on the complete defensive.

While he did that, he failed to notice that Varek had moved again.

Lucian screamed.

Lucian glared at her.
He knew exactly what she was thinking and he did not want that.
The only reason he came in here was because of her.
And all this while he was inside with Naomi, he could see it, he could see how much Aevrienne liked Naomi.
All they needed to do was reach the end of the puzzle and meet her.
That would be it.
Aevrienne would choose Naomi and that would solve all their problems.
That, however, would not happen if Naomi eliminated herself at this moment. If she left now, he might be able to win, but it wouldn’t change anything.
Naomi would remain weak and she would constantly be targeted, especially now that a monster like Varek had seen her.
"IT IS NOT OVER YET!"
He screamed, looking right at her, begging for her to understand what he was trying to say.
I can still win.
That was what his eyes were saying.
And Naomi...
She clenched her fists helplessly and, with her face covered with tears, she nodded, holding herself back.
"How touching~"
Varek laughed at that.
He twisted his fist, clawing through Lucian’s organs.
"GAAHH!!"
Lucian screamed.
Then, at the last moment, he used Telekinesis on himself to move away from him. Varek followed and Lucian used his almost-dead arm with Telekinesis as he suddenly punched back.
One-Inch Dominion’s force exploded—
BOOOM
Varek crossed his arms at the last moment, blocking the very weakened attack, though it was more than enough to throw him back a few feet.
His forearm cracked as well.
Varek, however, only had a wide smile on his face.
"This is fun. It’s been a while since I hunted someone this strong."
He laughed, his crimson eyes glowing very, very brightly.
And as Lucian stared back at him, while his body worked tirelessly, trying to heal more than sixteen broken bones, three ruptured organs, and a large hole that had formed in his back—
Something began to sink into Lucian’s mind.
