Varek simply waved his hand and the barrage of weapons he had created instantly rushed forward, half towards Lucian, half towards the girl he was protecting.

And Lucian moved in response, defending himself and Naomi again.

Again, none of the attacks moved past his defences and hurt Naomi, but quite a few hurt him. More and more blood weapons pierced him, his injuries were getting worse. He could still hold on, but protecting himself and Naomi together was proving to be difficult.

As for Varek—

He only stared at the sight in front of him with a big grin, all while his regeneration healed his injuries.

He had found a simple solution. He continued creating blood weapons and kept attacking, while Lucian did everything in his power to defend himself and the girl he was protecting.

Sure, he did not have endless Energy like Lucian did, but he wasn’t weak either. He had been gathering energy this entire time.

The amount of suffering he had caused just after he entered the Trial and the energy he gained from it was twice what he had gained in the last eighty years.

He had a lot to spare.

So he continued expending it while he waited for his body to recover.

"Lucian!"

Just then, Isolde shouted from behind.

This was no longer a one-on-one battle, not when the enemy was specifically targeting one of them.

"Don’t worry about her, we will protect her!"

The mage shouted as her cards began floating around her.

"Yes! You attack him!"

Sabine nodded as well, taking out a shield.

Varek noticed that and laughed. With another wave of his hand, more blood weapons formed and a barrage of them rushed towards the two girls, instantly overwhelming them.

Again, yes, Isolde and Sabine were part of the supernatural world. They, however, were weak.

Sabine was only a Relic Hunter. Sure, she had quite a few interesting Artifacts that might give her an advantage in a battle, but in the end, she too was a normal Human with no formal training.

She wasn’t even strong enough to take on rogue, newly turned Vampires unless she had a proper team or enough time to prepare.

As for a Vampire Elite like Varek, a Vampire who had terrorised the supernatural world for decades?

Sabine stood no chance against him.

She wouldn’t even be able to react to his movements, let alone the barrage of blood weapons being stormed at her.

Isolde, on the other hand, was in a slightly better position.

She was not an ordinary Human, she was a genuine part of the supernatural world.

But she was a Witch.

She needed preparation.

If she had enough time, she could probably come up with some spells that would stop Varek, or even entrap him, but in a direct, upfront battle, she wasn’t of much help either.

So the moment Varek targeted the two, their disadvantage became very, very clear.

Let alone protecting Naomi, they wouldn’t last long on their own.

And the worst part?

Varek had healed.

The Vampire then looked at the overwhelmed Lucian. Lucian, while defending against multiple attacks on multiple fronts, all at the same time, looked back at him, then—

The Vampire grinned.

"Naomi!"

Lucian’s eyes widened as he immediately sensed the Vampire’s movement.

Varek appeared several metres away, moving directly towards her. Lucian’s expression changed, he formed a wall of debris in front of him.

BOOOM

The Vampire simply crashed through the debris.

Lucian formed a barrier, Varek punched through that too.

Lucian controlled Naomi’s body through Telekinesis and pulled her back. Varek changed direction and followed her.

At the same time, he formed a few more blood spears and threw them at her.

Lucian blocked them.

One of the spears moved towards Isolde.

"Isolde! Careful!"

Lucian warned. The Witch’s cards flashed, a black shield appeared in front of her and—

BOOM

The spear struck the shield and exploded. The impact pushed the Witch a few steps away. Lucian tried to move and help her, but Varek attacked Naomi again.

"Bastard!"

Lucian cursed as he formed multiple barriers around Naomi. Varek grinned, almost as if he was expecting that, then—

He appeared right in front of Lucian.

’Shit.’

Lucian’s eyes widened in shock.

Too close.

He was too close to react.

He did not notice because he was too busy trying to protect Naomi and Varek instantly used that chance and—

BOOOOM

Varek punched his stomach.

"Kharrrkkk!!"

Lucian’s body folded before it flew back, crashing into the wall. He coughed out blood when he landed on the ground.

Before he could even recover, he saw three blood blades attacking Naomi. His eyes widened, he extended his hand, forming multiple barriers to protect Naomi. Barriers appeared, the blades stopped but—

Varek did not care.

His focus was somewhere else.

More particularly, on the thin thread that quietly wrapped around Isolde’s ankle. When the Witch sensed it, she looked down.

"Wha—"

She frowned.

Just then, Varek pulled. The Witch would have lost her balance if it wasn’t for Sabine appearing and cutting the thread.

"Focus!"

The Relic Hunter shouted.

"I was focused!"

"You were about to fall!"

"That was a tactical descent!"

"THIS IS NOT THE TIME!"

Sabine screamed.

For a moment, even Varek wondered what the hell the two were doing. Though he did not care, his target wasn’t the girls anyway.

It was Lucian.

One thing, however, had changed.

Now, Lucian was not his direct target.

Varek could tell that Lucian could somehow read him, he could predict his attacks and avoid or counter them.

However, he could only do that if Varek targeted him.

But if he targeted others...?

Lucian’s instincts weren’t trained well enough to react to that. He could control the battlefield from his end, that was what Vivienne’s training was for, that was what he had been doing until now—

But this time—

It was completely different.

He could not fight an opponent like Varek and defend Naomi and the others.

The worst part?

Varek knew that.

And he was taking full advantage of it.
