True Incubus: The Demon with No Limits

Chapter 279: The Heartvoice Physique.

Two days later, Naomi was sitting beside Lucian’s bed, staring at him.

He still hadn’t woken up, his injuries were even worse than what was expected, his limbs weren’t just broken, they had given out. There were four holes in his legs, the muscles were torn so brutally that they weren’t moving even when healing potions were used directly on them.

His arms were even worse.

The mess was so bad that the medics needed hours just to separate his bones, muscles and tendons and put them where they were supposed to be before they could use any healing techniques on them.

And this was just his limbs, there were several other injuries all over his body, a hole in his chest, broken ribs, cuts, scratches, bruises, blood, it was a lot.

It was one of those cases where the medics were wondering how this man was smiling when he was brought here, even the strongest hunters, after suffering through injuries of this level, either scream in endless agony or simply pass out because their brains are unable to register the trauma.

For what it’s worth, however, Lucian held on. As the medics continued working on him, as if his body itself was helping them, it began healing without problems and now...

The wait was just for him to wake up, all his injuries were gone.

And Naomi continued her wait.

They were no longer inside the temporary medical camp near Aevrienne’s shrine.

After the Trial was over and the important patients were stable enough to transport, Lucian was brought back to the Enclave and placed inside one of its Medical Wards.

"You overdid it today..."

Naomi muttered softly as she gently held Lucian’s hand and placed it on her cheek.

Lucian obviously did not answer, he was still sleeping. Naomi stared at him, his face was paler than normal.

"I sometimes forget he was a human only a few months ago."

Aevrienne commented as she stared at Lucian as well.

She couldn’t imagine a normal human sustaining those injuries, heck, most supernatural beings wouldn’t last with such grave injuries.

Lucian... really was pushing himself.

"I fee—"

Before Naomi could respond properly, the door opened, Naomi turned to see who it was, and the instant she did—

She froze.

It was Evelyn.

And she...

She was a mess as well.

Her long hair was slightly messy, she was wearing simple clothes rather than the ones prepared by her stylists, there was barely any makeup on her face and...

She looked exhausted.

Her face was pale, her cheeks seemed a little more sunken than usual.

She seemed weak.

"Evelyn?"

Naomi frowned.

"Hey."

Evelyn showed a weak smile.

"You’re awake."

"Apparently."

"You were unconscious for two days."

"So I’ve been told."

Naomi’s frown deepened, then, she noticed something.

"Did you come here immediately?"

Evelyn paused at the question and Naomi narrowed her eyes.

"Did you eat anything?"

"..."

Evelyn did not answer, but her silence alone was enough of an answer.

"You did not, huh..."

"I..."

Evelyn looked towards Lucian.

"I wanted to see him first."

That made Naomi sigh.

She wasn’t even surprised at this point. She was surrounded by people who had no care for their bodies. She watched Evelyn walk inside, her eyes remained on Lucian for a few seconds, the closer she came, the more... relieved she looked.

Then—

Her attention shifted towards the woman floating beside Naomi.

"You must be Aevrienne."

Evelyn smiled politely.

"You caused quite a mess."

That made Aevrienne laugh.

She did cause a mess, huh.

The Trial this time was... much more eventful compared to those in the past. The world improved in a certain sense while she was asleep.

Just then—

"You are quite exceptional as well."

Aevrienne spoke up.

That made Evelyn blink.

"Me?"

"Yes."

Aevrienne’s silver eyes observed her more carefully.

"I did not think I would encounter someone possessing the Heartvoice Physique in this era."

"The... what?"

Evelyn frowned in confusion.

"You do not know, huh."

Aevrienne read her face.

"What am I supposed to know?"

"That you possess the Heartvoice Physique."

"The... Heartvoice...?"

"That is the secret behind your voice."

"My voice...?"

"More precisely, what your voice does to others."

Aevrienne spoke as she floated closer to Evelyn, as if she was observing something very interesting.

"The Heartvoice Physique is an extremely rare spiritual constitution."

She started explaining.

"It causes one’s voice to resonate unusually strongly with the emotions behind it."

"So... she sounds better because of it?"

Naomi frowned.

"In a crude way, yes."

Aevrienne nodded.

"When someone possessing the Heartvoice Physique speaks without genuine emotion, there is little difference, but when the heart and the words align..."

The spirit’s eyes moved towards Evelyn.

"It becomes far more effective than it should."

"...right."

Naomi nodded.

She had no idea what the woman just said.

Aevrienne knew that, so she explained further.

"A song filled with longing makes that longing easier for others to feel, a joyful voice lifts those listening, grief becomes heavier, affection becomes warmer and... desire becomes considerably easier to awaken."

Aevrienne looked back at Evelyn and—

"That is why you gather Energy of Desire so efficiently."

Evelyn’s expression changed.

She knew she had the power to gather Energy of Desire, she just did not know how it all worked.

Now however, it seemed she had the answer.

It was... this special Physique she had.

"When you sing with genuine emotion, those who are already attracted to you become more receptive."

Aevrienne started explaining it more properly.

"Their fascination deepens, their attention becomes more difficult to pull away, and the emotional resonance created by your voice allows the Desire Energy produced by them to gather around you much more naturally than it would around an ordinary person."

Evelyn stared.

"So... all of that energy... was because of this Physique."

She muttered.

"And because an absurd number of people adore you."

Naomi added.

Evelyn stared at her and Naomi just shrugged.

"What? Do you even know the effect you have on people?"

She rolled her eyes.

The star had no idea how much of a star she actually was.

Just then—

Naomi’s expression changed as something clicked.

She quickly looked back at Aevrienne and—

"Wait, you kept saying voice, not song."

"Yes."

Aevrienne nodded with a knowing smile.

And the look on Naomi’s face changed.

"Does that mean she doesn’t actually need to sing to gather the energy?"
