"Does that mean she doesn’t actually need to sing to gather the energy?"
Naomi mentioned the possibility and the instant she heard it, Evelyn looked at Aevrienne to confirm it.
The Spirit’s smile widened and she—
"She does not."
She nodded.
Evelyn froze, Naomi leaned forward, her eyes shining strongly as Aevrienne continued explaining.
"Singing is merely the method she has spent most of her life refining. Music makes it easier for her to place genuine emotion into her voice, it gives structure, rhythm, intent, but those are not requirements of the Physique itself."
The spirit looked at Evelyn again.
"With sufficient training, even ordinary speech would work the same."
Naomi’s jaw dropped.
"So what you are saying is...
She can generate Desire Energy just by talking?"
"Yes."
Aevrienne nodded.
"A Heartvoice Physique is far stronger than what you believe. You think it can only generate Energy of Desire because that desire is what she receives the most.
People listening to her songs desire her, they adore her, and the stronger their feelings are, the more energy they generate.
But Desire is not the only thing she can generate.
Her physique can generate warmth, longing, hope, confidence, affection, seduction and even courage."
"Courage?"
Naomi blinked.
"As I said, the Heartvoice Physique responds to the heart, desire is merely one of its aspects, it has more uses.
If she genuinely wished for frightened people to find courage, her words could make it happen.
If she wished to comfort someone, they would feel her sincerity more clearly.
If she wished to inspire... people would listen."
"So basically, she can make people do what she wants."
"More precisely, she can make people want to do what she wants."
Aevrienne corrected and Naomi’s expression changed.
"So not only can she make people do what she wants, those people would think they did it of their own volition."
"To some degree, yes."
The spirit nodded. Evelyn stared at her hands, still in shock and Naomi—
"This is absurd."
She couldn’t believe it.
"It is."
Aevrienne agreed.
"Heartvoice Physiques were exceptionally rare even in periods when supernatural bloodlines were considerably more common."
Then, the spirit’s face became more serious.
"Which is also why beings possessing them rarely lived peaceful lives."
"What do you mean?"
Evelyn looked up and Aevrienne’s answer was simple.
"Demons.
They greatly valued Heartvoice bearers."
Evelyn’s face changed in an instant, her smile disappeared. Aevrienne noticed it instantly and she very quickly understood what it meant.
"So one already came for you."
"...yes."
Evelyn did not hide it either.
There was no point.
"Who was it?"
"Vaelrith, a Greater Incubus."
That answer made Aevrienne stare at her for a moment, then—
"You were fortunate."
Naomi blinked at those words, Evelyn was the same.
"Fortunate?"
Aevrienne nodded.
"Yes, you were fortunate that it was merely a Greater Incubus."
"...merely?"
"Yes."
Aevrienne did not back down.
To her, a Greater Demon was indeed a small entity.
And it actually was—
Especially considering what Evelyn had.
"If knowledge of your Physique had reached certain higher entities, your circumstances could have become much worse."
Evelyn gulped, her eyes momentarily moved to Lucian, thinking about what would have happened to him if a higher-ranking demon did target her.
Aevrienne kept studying her expression and—
"So he protected you."
She concluded.
"He did."
Evelyn nodded, not moving her gaze away from him.
Aevrienne kept staring at Evelyn.
"And then you formed a contract with him."
"You can tell?"
Evelyn blinked.
"I sensed it when I tracked where the excessive energy he was receiving was coming from. It was rather difficult to ignore the amount you were sending."
That made Evelyn chuckle.
Then she nodded.
"I did form a contract with him."
Aevrienne nodded, then she stared at both Evelyn and Lucian and—
"How... strange."
Both girls frowned.
"What?"
Naomi tilted her head.
Aevrienne just chuckled.
"For someone like him to encounter a Heartvoice bearer."
"Someone like him?"
Evelyn frowned.
"I did not mean it negatively."
Aevrienne laughed.
"That did not sound positive."
Naomi narrowed her eyes, Aevrienne ignored her, she stared at Evelyn instead and started explaining herself.
"The Heartvoice Physique is extraordinarily rare. So rare that I am not surprised you or your Enclave have no record of it. Entire generations can pass without one appearing, a person may search several lifetimes without encountering a bearer and yet..."
Her eyes moved towards Lucian.
"The person she formed a contract with is an existence even more unusual."
Those words made both Evelyn and Naomi quiet.
Aevrienne kept staring at Lucian and...
"An existence that should not even exist."
She spoke and the entire room turned silent.
The two girls stared at the spirit with wary looks on their faces. Actually, this wasn’t the first time they were hearing it, in fact, Lucian had already explained it to them since he did not wish to hide anything from them.
They knew about the High Incubus Blood he consumed, what that blood should have done to him and yet...
He became what he became.
So when Aevrienne called him ’an existence that should not even exist’, the girls knew she wasn’t wrong.
Just that...
"...do you know why he survived?"
Naomi asked, staring at Lucian’s sleeping face.
And Aevrienne—
"...no."
She shook her head.
"Even you don’t know...?"
That answer somehow bothered Naomi more.
"I have... never seen anything like it before.
His existence... does not make any sense."
That answer made Naomi and Evelyn exchange a glance.
For a moment, no one spoke.
Then, Naomi just sighed.
"Whatever, we’ll bother him about his impossible existence after he wakes up."
"That sounds reasonable."
Evelyn smiled faintly, then Naomi remembered something else and looked at Evelyn.
"Speaking of impossible things..."
"What?"
Evelyn frowned.
"You really have no idea what happened after your concert?"
"I just woke up."
Evelyn answered and Naomi...
"You caused a very big mess."
She smiled mysteriously.
"I did...?"
Evelyn blinked.
"Yes, you did."
"...what did I do?"
Evelyn asked, though she could already tell where this was going. Naomi quickly took out her phone, went to the headlines and there it was—
Evelyn’s face all over the headlines.
And Evelyn—
"Ah."
She didn’t know how she was supposed to react.
