Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Must Subdue Her
Wang Chenning quietly slipped out of the hotel. He had only been waiting for a few minutes at a nearby intersection when Li Yanxian’s sports car pulled up.
"This getup... I almost didn’t recognize you!" After Wang Chenning opened the car door and got in, Li Yanxian took off her sunglasses and gave him a strange look. "You’ve got the makings of a secret agent!"
Wang Chenning was wearing a pair of large-framed glasses, and his somewhat long hair was combed down over his forehead and eyebrows. He had the collar of his trench coat turned up and was also wearing a face mask.
In this disguise, even if Yang Xiaofu and Zhao Xiao’an brushed past him, they probably wouldn’t recognize him.
Li Yanxian, on the other hand, hadn’t made a special effort to dress up. She just wore a baseball cap and a pair of sunglasses.
He didn’t see her bodyguards, either.
After getting in the car, Wang Chenning fastened his seatbelt, then took off his mask and glasses. He replied to her with a chuckle, "Just trying to save you some trouble! You’re South Korea’s national goddess, and I’m currently public enemy number one. If people saw us together, you’d be knocked right off your pedestal!"
"Oh, thinking so far ahead, and even being considerate of others!" Li Yanxian looked at Wang Chenning with surprise. "Are you really making a play for me?"
"Sheesh, you can’t appreciate a kind gesture, can you!" Wang Chenning retorted irritably. "In that case, I’ll drop the disguise and just walk around with you openly. How about a little PDA, then?"
"Get lost!" Li Yanxian slapped his hand away, then slammed her foot on the gas. The car shot forward. Once they’d covered some distance, she asked nonchalantly, "I heard you didn’t leave my aunt’s residence until late last night. And you went again this morning?"
"Your aunt has a chronic illness. Since I promised to help treat her, I have to follow through. I treated her for nearly two hours last night and left with Luo Yuqing afterward. I have things to do today, and so does your aunt. The only free time we had was early in the morning, so I went over first thing to check the effects of last night’s treatment." He paused, then added with a huff, "Honestly, you’re not my girlfriend. Why am I explaining all this to you?"
After a moment, he asked with a puzzled look, "You don’t suspect me and Li Fuzhen are having some kind of illicit affair, do you?"
"Oh, please. If you were interested in an old woman like that, your taste would be seriously twisted!" Li Yanxian rolled her eyes. "I just want to remind you, visiting Li Fuzhen’s villa so frequently will attract trouble."
"Trouble from where?" Wang Chenning asked in return. "Your father? Within the Shanxing Group? Or from the public?"
"All of them!" Li Yanxian replied as she drove. "Anyway, just be careful. Li Fuzhen inviting you to her villa is just her way of showing you special favor. You need to know when to stop."
"Alright, I get it!" Wang Chenning nodded.
’He’d really underestimated this woman. Only twenty-two, and already so perceptive. Given a few more years, who knew what kind of demoness she’d become.’
’A woman like her would be a real headache as an opponent.’
’Maybe I should just take Luo Yuqing’s advice and win her over.’
Li Yanxian first took Wang Chenning to the tourist attraction at the 38th parallel.
Downtown Seoul is only a few dozen kilometers from the 38th parallel, less than an hour’s drive.
"Why did you bring me here?" Wang Chenning asked Li Yanxian as the car pulled up near the demarcation line. "To reflect on history?"
"Isn’t this a must-see for all Huaxia tourists in South Korea?" Li Yanxian looked at him strangely. "You don’t want to take a look?"
"Alright then!" Wang Chenning chuckled and pushed the car door open, stepping out.
Wang Chenning had thought Li Yanxian came out without bodyguards, but to his surprise, her two close bodyguards appeared at her side.
They had arrived early to make arrangements.
A staff member they had arranged for led Wang Chenning and Li Yanxian inside for the tour.
After walking for a little while, Li Yanxian dismissed the staff member and continued walking slowly with Wang Chenning alone.
"What do you think of the conflict back then?" Li Yanxian asked him. "Do you think it was a great war?"
"Of course it was great!" Wang Chenning nodded. "At the very least, it showed the world Huaxia’s resilience. After that war, no country dared to underestimate Huaxia again!"
Wang Chenning had expected her to say the war was a humiliation for South Korea, but she skipped right past the topic and talked about history instead. "There really hasn’t been much time without war on this peninsula. Because of all the fighting, the population migrated frequently. So now, these self-proclaimed natives... who knows where their ancestors actually came from!"
"From Huaxia!" Wang Chenning grinned. "Those powerful, aristocratic families can definitely trace their ancestors back to Huaxia, including your Li family!"
"Perhaps," Li Yanxian nodded, then asked, "What do you think of South Korea?"
"It’s a good place!" Wang Chenning nodded. "The country isn’t large, but its economy is developed, its industries are concentrated, and it has many ports. Plus, its relationship with Huaxia isn’t bad right now. The thing I appreciate most about South Korea is that every year, they repatriate the remains of some of our heroes from that era, and they do it with full honors."
"Nothing else besides that?" Li Yanxian looked at Wang Chenning mischievously.
"I just added one more thing: a female friend who’s this beautiful and smart!"
"You sure know how to charm a girl!" Li Yanxian returned his smile, then pulled on his arm. "Come on, let’s go!"
After their tour of the 38th parallel, Li Yanxian drove Wang Chenning back to the bank of the Han River.
"The banks of the Han River are actually quite beautiful, don’t you think?" In a secluded spot, after skipping about energetically for a moment, she tilted her head and asked him, "It would probably be even more romantic to come here at night."
"How about next time I’m in Seoul, I come here with you to see the nightscape and experience that romance you’re talking about?"
"That depends on if I’m in the mood!" Li Yanxian looked at Wang Chenning with a sly expression. "Maybe I’ll have lost interest in you by then and won’t want anything to do with you."
"I’m kind of looking forward to that day!" Wang Chenning laughed heartily. He then grabbed her wrist and started walking, saying, "In return for you showing me around today, when you come to Huaxia, I’ll have to clear my schedule and show you around!"
"Is this how you always hold a girl’s hand?" Li Yanxian asked with a frown, gesturing to her wrist. "By the wrist? So rude!"
Wang Chenning let go of her wrist. Just as Li Yanxian rolled her eyes and started to walk on, he wrapped an arm around her waist from behind and said softly, "You’re a really remarkable girl. I’m sure if I spent enough time with you, I would definitely fall for you. Any man who gets to know you would fall for you!"
