Chapter 68: Chapter 68: A Ruthless Bunch
"What? You dare threaten me?" Wang Chenning said with a chuckle. "I have no interest in playing dirty with you! Since you sent people to make a scene, hoping to throw Li Garden Hall into chaos, then I’m done being nice. Ruining someone’s livelihood is like killing their parents. Slapping you once is letting you off easy!"
Then, he added with a vicious roar, "Now get the hell out."
"Just you wait!" PTUI! Lin Annian spat a wad of bloody phlegm onto the floor. His cold gaze swept over Luo Yuqing and Wang Chenning before landing on Zheng Qiuhang. Then, he turned and stalked out of the private room without a backward glance.
Wang Chenning smirked. He flicked his foot, kicking up a wine bottle lying on the floor. It sailed through the air and struck Lin Annian squarely in the back of the knee.
Caught completely by surprise, Lin Annian went down with a THUD, face-planting on the floor.
Seeing this, the companions who had already made it to the door rushed back to help him up.
Once his companions pulled him to his feet, Lin Annian’s face was a mask of fury. He turned back to Wang Chenning and spat out another threat, one word at a time, "Wang Chenning, I’m marking this down. In the future, I swear I’ll pay you ba—"
He never got the word "back" out of his mouth. A piece of mango suddenly flew into it, choking him so violently he almost passed out.
"Lin Annian, unlike you, I don’t just make empty threats. When someone wrongs me, I get my revenge on the spot," Wang Chenning said with a cheerful taunt. He then turned to Luo Yuqing. "Aunt Qing, I think he just insulted you. Should I slap his face for you?"
Luo Yuqing paused for a second, then nodded immediately. "Of course you should!"
And so, with his hand raised high, Wang Chenning started walking toward Lin Annian one step at a time.
Lin Annian jumped in fright and scrambled away. "Stay back! Don’t you come any closer!"
Seeing this, Luo Yuqing finally burst out laughing.
"Lin Annian, I’ve recorded this entire pathetic little show!" Luo Yuqing said with a loud laugh. "I’ll have to give it some thought... should I post these videos online? Oh, that’s right, I just remembered something. Last time, didn’t you and Li Mingchao have so much ’fun’ with a certain starlet that she ended up in the hospital? She nearly bled to death. It took a massive blood transfusion just to bring her back. How much did you two pay her to keep quiet? I seem to recall having some photos from that incident!"
At Luo Yuqing’s words, the color drained from Lin Annian’s face. He quickly took a few steps back toward her. "Miss Luo..."
"Get lost. I don’t feel like discussing this with you today." Luo Yuqing pointed to Zhang Xiaojie, who was still kneeling on the floor, pale with terror. "I need to settle things with him first. I’ll deal with you later!"
"Aunt Qing, I’ll be leaving now. I’ll come back to beg for your forgiveness another time!" Lin Annian’s tone softened, and he had switched from calling her "Miss Luo" back to the more familiar "Aunt Qing."
Today, Luo Yuqing hadn’t just brought Wang Chenning and Zheng Qiuhang to Qingyun Hall; she had also brought a troop of bodyguards.
It was just that her group had arrived at the room first.
Lin Annian and his companions had bodyguards too, but they had all been intercepted and subdued by Luo Yuqing’s men, unable to enter the room and intervene.
Only after Lin Annian had fled the hall did his bodyguards finally reach him.
"Useless trash!"
Lin Annian, naturally, was in a thunderous rage. He slapped each of his bodyguards across the face, gave them each a swift kick, and only then did he storm into his car.
Back in the room, Zhang Xiaojie, who had been scared witless, tried to make a run for it, his legs trembling uncontrollably.
But just as he reached the doorway, a plate came flying through the air and struck him squarely in the knee. With a THUD, he crumpled to the ground, forced back onto his knees.
It was, of course, Wang Chenning’s doing.
"Get back here!" Luo Yuqing, still sipping her tea like a queen on her throne, commanded in a glacial tone. "Kneel before me!"
Zhang Xiaojie didn’t dare to disobey. He shuffled forward on his knees until he was directly in front of Luo Yuqing.
Luo Yuqing ignored him, however. She instead gestured toward the terrified, pale-faced Yang Xiaomi and asked Wang Chenning, "Should we tell her to get lost, too? Or should she stay and keep you company?"
Wang Chenning gave Yang Xiaomi a quick look up and down, then waved a dismissive hand. "You can go, too."
"Miss Luo, Eldest Young Master Wang, I really have nothing to do with Lin Annian!" Although her face was ashen with fright, Yang Xiaomi forced herself to remain calm. She took trembling steps toward Wang Chenning and Luo Yuqing and explained earnestly, "Today was the very first time I’ve ever met Eldest Young Master Lin. I only chatted with him because I heard he was planning to invest in a new series. Please, Miss Luo, Eldest Young Master Wang, don’t misunderstand. I truly have no connection to them."
"Then you can get lost, too!" Luo Yuqing snapped before Wang Chenning could say a word, ordering her out.
"Miss Luo, Eldest Young Master Wang, I’ll take my leave now!" Yang Xiaomi gave them both a small bow and fled in disgrace.
"Feeling a little sorry for her?" Luo Yuqing asked Wang Chenning with a light laugh. "Men are always suckers for a damsel in distress! But who knows if that pathetic display was all an act. Don’t forget, she’s an actress, and a good one at that. They say actresses are even more heartless than whores; they’ll cozy up to anyone who can further their career."
"You have a point, Aunt Qing!" Wang Chenning said, laying on a little flattery. He then told Zheng Qiuhang to sit down before taking a seat on the sofa next to Luo Yuqing. "I was just thinking we might be able to make use of her popularity, should the need arise."
"But Zhao Xiao’an’s popularity isn’t much lower than hers, is it?" Luo Yuqing was a little surprised by his words. "Don’t tell me you’ve taken an interest in the entertainment industry?"
She paused for a moment before continuing, "Tch. You just know the entertainment world is full of beautiful women, so you want a piece of the action, right? Maybe get a few starlets on the casting couch? Men. Not a decent one among you. Always thinking with your dicks!"
Wang Chenning leaned in and whispered in Luo Yuqing’s ear, "Aunt Qing, I’m still a virgin. Believe it or not?"
"For real?" Luo Yuqing’s eyes widened in disbelief. "But you act like such a seasoned player, a veteran of countless romantic conquests."
"I’m just like you, Aunt Qing. All talk and no action!"
Luo Yuqing’s expression immediately softened into a wide, knowing smile, and the look she gave Wang Chenning was suddenly different.
While Luo Yuqing and Wang Chenning were busy with their playful banter, Zhang Xiaojie didn’t dare lift his head. He remained prostrated before Luo Yuqing, his body trembling like a leaf.
After a long moment, Luo Yuqing finally addressed him.
"Let’s hear the details."
Through a flood of tears and snot, Zhang Xiaojie immediately started explaining, "Sister Qing, you haven’t come by in over a year! Not one phone call, not a single message... I thought you’d abandoned me, that you didn’t want me to work for you anymore. So, when Lin Annian wanted to buy a stake in the business, I agreed. You know how it is! When people like them want in, if you’re not here to back me up, Sister Qing, how could I possibly refuse them...?"
What Zhang Xiaojie said wasn’t a complete lie. Lin Annian had indeed strong-armed his way into becoming a shareholder. However, Zhang Xiaojie had long wanted to break free from Luo Yuqing’s control. So when Lin Annian showed interest in getting involved, he had jumped at the opportunity and the two quickly struck a deal.
For someone as powerful and wealthy as Luo Yuqing, a small enterprise like Qingyun Hall was hardly worth a second thought. But for Lin Annian to get involved and for Zhang Xiaojie to try and break free from her control—that was a slap in the face. And that was something she would not let slide.
Moreover, the people Zhang Xiaojie had chosen to conspire with were Li Mingchao and Lin Annian—the very same people who had a beef with Wang Chenning.
And so, she had decided to make a scene.
She just never expected Wang Chenning to add so much fuel to the fire, escalating the situation far beyond her original intent...
