Chapter 69: This Is a Gift for You

Chapter 69: Chapter 69: This Is a Gift for You

Zhang Xiaojie was once just a low-level thug running the streets before one of Luo Yuqing’s people brought him into the fold.

On one occasion, Luo Yuqing happened to notice Zhang Xiaojie’s ruthless yet shrewd way of handling things and started paying closer attention to him.

Later, after Zhang Xiaojie acquired Qingyun Hall from someone else, he proactively offered it to Luo Yuqing as a gift.

Luo Yuqing appreciated his generosity and competence, so she agreed to have her people oversee Qingyun Hall and accepted the shares he offered.

To Luo Yuqing, having another dog by her side was certainly not a bad thing. When the time came, she could let it off its leash to bite someone.

Besides, she quite liked the atmosphere at Qingyun Hall, so she visited often and even kept an exclusive private room for herself.

She never expected that the ever-shrewd Zhang Xiaojie would get other ideas and try to latch onto someone more powerful.

In the past, Zhang Xiaojie had indeed underestimated Luo Yuqing’s true power, believing her status and influence couldn’t possibly compare to the likes of Lin Annian and Li Mingchao.

After all, she was just a woman. Women eventually get married, and once they do, they belong to another family. Her own family wouldn’t continue to provide her with many resources.

The Luo family was on a similar footing as the Lin family, but he hadn’t known that Luo Yuqing’s older sister had married into the Zhao family.

Only now did he realize this woman was far more powerful than he had ever imagined. Even Lin Annian had been like a beaten dog before her.

Unfortunately, there was no medicine for regret in this world. If there were, Zhang Xiaojie would have bought it, no matter the cost.

"Sister Qing, that’s really how it happened!" Zhang Xiaojie wailed, tears and snot streaming down his face as he explained again, seeing that Luo Yuqing showed no reaction whatsoever.

But Luo Yuqing acted completely unfazed, nonchalantly sipping her tea and even starting a discussion with Zheng Qiuhang about buying new spring clothes.

Zheng Qiuhang didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. At a moment like this, Luo Yuqing was discussing the "important business" of seasonal shopping with her.

The events of the day had been a profound shock to her.

She was finally beginning to understand what it meant to throw your weight around.

’Does this mean,’ she wondered, ’that I can use Wang Chenning and Luo Yuqing’s power to act high and mighty and bully people from now on?’

"Sister Qing, please spare me!" Zhang Xiaojie raised his hand and slapped himself twice more. "I’ll never dare to do something like this again! I swear, I will never betray you! I’m willing to be your dog for the rest of my life!"

"The last thing I need is a dog that bites its master." Luo Yuqing finally let out a cold snort after Zhang Xiaojie had slapped himself a dozen more times. "Liquidate all the dividends and shares that aren’t mine. Settle everything within half an hour. I want full control of Qingyun Hall. I plan to give it away as a gift."

"Sister Qing, no!" Zhang Xiaojie cried out in alarm, once again a blubbering mess. "I still want to work with you..."

"Are you even qualified to work with me? Let me repeat myself: you have half an hour." Luo Yuqing’s gaze shifted to Zheng Qiuhang. "You go with Xiaojie to settle the accounts. I’ll send two of my people with you. Don’t mess it up."

"Understood!" Zheng Qiuhang’s heart leaped into her throat. She was terribly nervous, but she didn’t dare refuse and gave a solemn nod of agreement.

Zhang Xiaojie didn’t dare to stand, shuffling on his knees to the doorway before finally getting to his feet.

He didn’t expect to run into a squad of police officers just as he reached the door.

Someone had reported the fight in the private room, and officers from the Public Security Bureau had come to investigate.

The officer in charge was surprised to see Zhang Xiaojie. "Boss Zhang, what happened to your face?" he asked.

"Officer Li!" Zhang Xiaojie felt a pang of embarrassment upon seeing a familiar face. He touched his own face, which was swollen like a pig’s head, and said shamefully, "I just accidentally ran into the door! Why are you all here? Is there a problem?"

"We received a report about a fight here, so we came to check it out. You really just... ran into something?"

Zhang Xiaojie quickly shook his head. "No fighting, no fighting at all! It was just a misunderstanding! My face... I wasn’t hit. I ran into the door myself!"

"You really ran into it?" Captain Li was, of course, skeptical. Who could possibly swell up their own face like a pig’s head by running into something? He had clearly been beaten up.

He saw Luo Yuqing and Wang Chenning sitting in the room, with Zheng Qiuhang standing off to the side.

When his eyes swept over Luo Yuqing, his heart skipped a beat, and beads of sweat instantly broke out on his forehead.

"Well, since there’s no public disturbance here, we won’t interfere." He patted Zhang Xiaojie’s shoulder. "Just be more careful where you’re walking in the future. Don’t want to go and crack your head open!"

"Absolutely, absolutely! Take care, Mr. Li!" Zhang Xiaojie wanted to just bash his own head against the wall and die.

After everyone else had left, Luo Yuqing smiled at Wang Chenning. "Wasn’t that exciting?"

Wang Chenning chuckled. "Aren’t you worried a nobody like him could cause trouble?"

Luo Yuqing shook her head. "I have dirt on every shady thing he’s ever done. Getting rid of him would be as easy as crushing an ant."

Wang Chenning just smiled. "I’ll have someone clean this place up and bring in some refreshments."

"Today was about showing everyone the fate that awaits traitors and the consequences of opposing us." As she spoke, Luo Yuqing flashed a bewitching smile at Wang Chenning. "I’m not talking about you, of course. Betrayal isn’t a part of our partnership."

Wang Chenning chuckled. "I have faith in you. I know you won’t let me down."

Luo Yuqing rolled her eyes. "If I ever had an opponent like you, I’d never be able to eat or sleep in peace!"

About twenty minutes later, Zheng Qiuhang returned to report that she and the two people Luo Yuqing had sent with her had finished their task.

Zhang Zhongji had transferred all the shares to them and signed the transfer agreement. They had also obtained the financial records for the past two years.

The dividends owed to Zhang Zhongji amounted to around two hundred million, but the funds wouldn’t be transferred until the share agreement officially took effect.

"Good. You didn’t disappoint us." Luo Yuqing nodded, then turned to Wang Chenning. "From now on, all the shares in this place are yours. Consider it a gift from me. As long as you keep your promise to me, there will be plenty more gifts to come."

Then she addressed Zheng Qiuhang. "You’ll be managing this place from now on, too. It’ll be a bit more work for you, running back and forth until you find a suitable replacement. Of course, I’ll have people assist you."

"Huh?" Zheng Qiuhang was completely taken aback, but after a couple of quick glances at Wang Chenning, she immediately replied, "I will certainly live up to Miss Luo’s trust, and I won’t disappoint Mr. Wang!"

Just then, Zhang Xiaojie re-entered the private room.

He dropped to his knees the moment he came through the door.

"Sister Qing, thank you so much for looking out for me all these years. I’ve done so many things wrong. I hope you can be the bigger person and not lower yourself to dealing with a scumbag like me. I, Zhang Xiaojie, will obey your every command for the rest of my life. If you ask me to..."

Luo Yuqing cut him off before he could finish. "That’s enough. Shut your filthy mouth. If you had said all this six months ago and kept your hands clean, I might have forgiven you. But it’s too late now."

A chill shot through Zhang Xiaojie’s heart at her words, but he still forced a smile. "Sister Qing, please, just forgive me this once. I swear I’ll work like a dog to repay you."

"Get out. Finish the handover and then disappear."

"Yes!" Zhang Xiaojie had no choice but to leave.

The moment he was outside, the respectful look on his face vanished, replaced by a murderous aura.

’Fuck it,’ he thought, his face twisting. ’If you want me dead, I’ll take you with me.’ With that, he immediately made a call and gave a series of orders.

After Zhang Xiaojie had gone, Luo Yuqing also took out her phone and made a call.

"Take care of Zhang Xiaojie."

She hung up without waiting for a reply.
