"C-Come on..." Violet muttered hesitantly, her voice barely a squeak as she led the way towards her dorm room.
Her cute face was still burning red, steam practically hissing from her ears as her tiny, overthinking brain ran a marathon of pure panic.
Today’s scheduled trial was a massive escalation in physical intimacy.
In plain terms: an extended, full-body, skin-to-skin embrace.
Just imagining wrapping her arms around his broad chest and pressing her entire body flush against his was causing her nervous system to scream. Yet beneath the embarrassment, a little flutter in her heart was secretly waiting for that warmth.
She shot a stealthy side-glance upward, half-expecting to see Eren looking equally flustered by the upcoming intimacy. Only for her to see him completely calm.
Eren was walking beside her with his hands inside his pockets, his blue eyes wandering the courtyard trees, maybe enjoying nature.
"Shameless playboy..." Violet grumbled under her breath, pouting.
A few minutes later, they arrived outside her shared dormitory.
Violet fumbled nervously with her key, finally opening and pushing the door inward. "Welcome in, Eren..." she whispered, her voice tightening with self-conscious embarrassment.
The moment Eren stepped inside, Violet slammed the door shut with surprising speed, frantically clicking the deadbolt into place as if trying to lock the entire outside world out of their private bubble.
Eren casually swept his gaze across the tidy, minimalist interior. It was only his second time stepping foot here—the first being last week when he had successfully talked her down from a massive, tearful existential breakdown. The room was clean, cozy, and split evenly between Violet’s and Alice’s, though the saintess was currently away on duties.
"You know, Miss Violet," Eren remarked casually, pulling out a wooden dining chair and taking a seat, "it still baffles me why the daughter of the Count Lavenza family chooses to live in a cramped, commoner dormitory."
Violet walked over to the small kitchenette counter, brewing a fresh batch of tea to keep her trembling hands occupied.
"I fear living alone. Since childhood when even my own mother refused to stay near me," Violet explained, her back turned as she measured the dried leaves. "The only person who wasn’t affected by my curse was Alice. I wanted to stay by her side no matter what... but Alice has far too much commoner pride. She flatly refused to let me pay for a noble dorm on her behalf."
Violet turned around with a soft, self-deprecating smile. "So... I simply downgraded my own living arrangements and moved into the commoner dorm with her instead."
"No wonder the Saintess acts like an overprotective mother whenever you’re involved," Eren remarked with a light chuckle.
Violet laughed softly, the tension in her completely melting away. "She’s been like that since the very day we met."
Carrying two steaming cups over to the small wooden table, Violet set one down before him. Eren accepted it with a polite nod as the purple-haired girl sat opposite him.
"If it weren’t for Alice... I honestly don’t think I would have made it this far," Violet murmured softly, her purple eyes staring at the swirling tea. "I wouldn’t be attending academy lectures, I wouldn’t be walking among normal people, and I certainly would have never crossed paths with you... a literal miracle who could actually touch me without losing your consciousness. If Alice had abandoned me like everyone else back then... I don’t even know if I would still be here today."
Her pretty face turned gloomy, eyes darkening.
Eren wanted to help her mood now, but offering heavy-handed comfort right now would only make things more awkward.
Deciding to redirect the mood, Eren let his blue eyes casually scan the tidy, minimalist tabletop.
Then, his eye stopped.
Sitting innocently right beside a stack of academy notebooks was a metallic object that had entirely zero business to be in the shared dorm of two supposedly innocent girls.
"What on earth is this doing here?" Eren asked, his brow furrowing as he reached out, picking up the lighter.
Violet blinked, raising her head from her cup. "What do you mean—"
The second her eyes locked onto the thing Eren was holding, her pupils enlarged in panic.
With speed and agility that not suits her, Violet lunged, aggressively snatching the lighter straight out of his hands and instantly hiding it behind her back.
"Th-That’s nothing!" Violet stammered frantically, her voice cracked that he could barely understand. "I-It’s completely irrelevant! Alice... Alice simply found it lying abandoned in the garden earlier this week! She intended to turn it in to the campus lost-and-found registry, but she forgot it on the desk this morning! Y-Yes, that is the exact and only reason it is in our room!"
Eren leaned back against his chair, crossing his arms as he fixed the flustered cutie with a flat, completely unimpressed, and deadpan stare.
As Violet’s desperate, rambling defense grew longer and more unhinged by the second, Eren simply raised a lazy hand, cutting her off.
"Alright, alright, Miss Violet. Take a breath," Eren drawled casually, taking a slow sip from his teacup.
Violet took a huge breath after giving a huge conspiracy theory, clutching the lighter tightly behind her back.
"Now then," Eren began, setting his empty teacup down on the table. "I have a mountain of things I need to draft for my project. So if you’re quite finished defending the lighter... Let’s start today’s scheduled trial of maximum body contact."
Whatever cooling mechanism Violet had left in her head instantly went off. Her face turned a shade of beet red—so red she could have easily blended into a farmer’s fresh harvest basket of beetroot.
"A-A hug...?" Violet whispered, her voice barely a fragile squeak as her purple eyes darted around the four corners of the dorm, like searching for an escape portal. "Y-You mean... an actual, literal hug...?"
"Naturally," Eren replied with a straight face, no trace of shame.
"B-But how can we possibly do that?!" she squeaked in heavy panic, her body shivering as lots of uninvited scandalous, illegal romantic scenarios flooded her innocent mind. "Y-You said the treatment requires a minimum of one full, continuous hour! How are we supposed to just... just stand there embracing each other for sixty straight minutes without our legs giving out?!"
"Oh, that’s simple to resolve."
Pushing himself up from the dining chair, he stretched his shoulders and approached the neatly organized study desk. "Mind if I borrow your desk, Miss Violet?"
Without waiting for permission, Eren pulled out the wooden chair, settled himself comfortably into the seat, and arranged his notes and pen across the blotter.
Once settled, Eren leaned back against the headrest.
He raised a hand and gently patted his lap.
"I’ll sit here and work on my project with both hands, while you can simply climb on over and make yourself comfortable on my lap for the next hour."
The final, heroic fuse keeping Violet’s sanity intact officially dead.
