Violet stood frozen in the center of the room, her limbs locked in place like a sculpture.
"Miss Violet?" Eren prompted, tapping the armrest with his finger. "The clock is ticking, and things aren’t going to be done by themselves. Are you sure you want to be cured?"
Violet swallowed hard, a tiny, muffled squeak escaping her throat.
Taking tiny, robotic steps that made her look like a wind-up doll, she walked until she was standing beside the desk.
Her eyes darted between his face and his lap, her hands violently smoothing down her uniform skirt.
"I-If this is purely for research..." Violet whispered in a fragile voice, "then... then I expect you to maintain absolute professional decorum, Lord Volsver."
"I am a gentleman, Miss Violet," Eren declared without batting an eye.
Violet carefully turned, lifted her slender frame, and lowered herself onto his thighs.
’Warm,’ was the immediate, overwhelming sensation that exploded across her senses.
Eren’s body heat radiated straight through the layers of their uniforms, a wave of warmth that immediately made her relieved. Violet stiffened instantly, sitting straight with her knees clamped together, clutching her skirt, petrified that shifting even a millimeter might trigger an unspeakable disaster.
Eren let out a low, amused hum. Reaching around her waist, he settled his arms on either side of her hips to reach the notes on the desk, effectively trapping her in a loose, protective cage of his embrace.
"You’re as stiff as a dummy, Miss Lavenza," Eren murmured, his voice rumbling against her back, his warm breath lightly brushing her ear. "Just Relax. Lean back and let me actually do my job."
Violet shuddered softly, her heart hammering in rhythm against her ribs. But as the scratching of his pen against the paper filled the quiet room, the tension turned into something sweet.
Slowly, hesitantly, she let the tension drain from her body.
She let her back rest fully against his chest, her head tilting slightly until her cheek found a comfortable nook against the crook of his neck. The steady, powerful thrum of his heartbeat beneath her shoulder acted like a soothing tune, washing away years of freezing, isolation.
"Eren...?" Violet murmured, her eyelids fluttering half-shut as a pleasant, drowsy haze overtook her senses.
"Hmm?" Eren grunted casually, not looking up from the blueprint.
"Aren’t you... feeling uncomfortable at all?" Violet asked in a hesitant whisper. "My curse... is it making you feel cold or dizzy?"
"Not in the slightest. At most, it feels more itchy than normal. But if you feel any discomfort, speak up immediately."
Violet shook her head softly against his chest, her purple hair brushing against his uniform. "No... nothing like that. It feels... nice."
As Eren resumed drafting, Violet let her eyes flutter shut, drifting happily into a warm haze. Surrounded by his clean, masculine scent, the steady rise and fall of his chest, and his unyielding care, this shameless embrace was absolute paradise for her.
After a few quiet minutes, a curious cat took her. Violet tilted her head upward, peeking at the diagrams laid out across the desk.
Her purple eyes widened as she saw complex mana circuits and models—theories so advanced they made the academy’s syllabus look like basic kindergarten scribbles.
"What is this project, Eren?" she murmured, pointing a dainty finger at a detailed joint schematic. "Is this the same thing you and Vaelis were whispering about in class?"
"Spot on, Miss Violet," Eren nodded, instinctively tightening his free arm around her waist as she leaned forward, making sure she didn’t lose her balance on his lap. "Curious? Here, take a look."
He handed her a thick stack of notes. Violet began flipping through the pages, her soft gasps of genuine awe echoing. Page after page revealed more than she could have imagined.
"This is... incredible," Violet whispered, her eyes sparkling with awe. "If you actually manage to build this, Eren... it won’t just be an engineering marvel. It could restore the lives of countless knights and soldiers who lost their limbs on the front lines."
"Why did you suddenly decide to take on something this massive?" Violet asked, leaning back against him again. She tilted her head sideways to rest comfortably against his shoulder, the sweet, subtle fragrance of lavender drifting from her hair straight into his senses.
"I made a very explicit promise to Aria," Eren replied casually, keeping his tone light. "And as an upstanding fiancé, I have a duty to deliver on my word."
A sharp pang tugged at Violet’s heart the second the blue-haired villainess’s name left his lips.
Jealousy?
No, why would she feel jealous of a guy who maintains multiple girlfriends?
Instead, the memory of Aria grabbing her soft cheeks with possessive authority and threatening to shut her lips if she ever dared to cry again replayed inside her mind.
A tiny, adorable shiver rippled through Violet’s nervous system.
"Feeling Cold, Miss Violet?" Eren murmured in concern, his hand giving her waist a gentle squeeze.
Violet quickly buried her burning face in her hands, shaking her head furiously. "N-No... just remembered something terrifying..."
Violet stayed buried against his chest for a quiet moment.
Slowly peeking up from her palms, her eyes narrowed into a tiny, suspicious pout. "You know...you seem entirely too used to having a girl sit on your lap."
"Yeah, of course," Eren replied, not missing a single stroke of his pen. "My petite girlfriend practically treats my lap like her chair whenever we’re in private."
Violet blinked, a faint blush creeping back into her cheeks. "Oh..."
"Though I have to admit," Eren continued, his tone dropping into teasing, "you weigh more than her. My legs are practically aching beneath all that extra mass, Miss Violet."
Violet immediately tapped the top of her head hard against his chest, softly.
"I am not fat!" she protested with an embarrassed huff.
"Right, right. My apologies," Eren chuckled as his arm wrapped around her waist, anchoring her closer against his chest.
A peaceful silence washed over the room once more.
After several quiet minutes, Eren paused his pen. His blue eyes drifted down toward the purple-haired girl resting on his chest.
"Hey, Miss Violet."
"Hmm?" she murmured, her eyes fluttering open.
"Over the past few weeks... has anyone strange approached you? Offering you a miracle cure to fix that curse once and for all?"
