VILLAIN'S HAREM IN OTOME GAME

Chapter 146: Violet’s Promise

Violet glanced over her shoulder to look at him in genuine confusion. His face was devoid of his usual playfulness and wit, replaced by grimness. He stopped writing and set the pen aside.

She shook her head innocently.

"No, no one approached me," she whispered, her voice certain. "Aside from Alice, Prince Theo, and now you, no one knows about my curse in this academy"

Hearing her words, a wave of relief washed over his face.

Genuinely, he felt he could breathe now. He didn’t know who was buying and distributing The Substance even though he busted the middlemen. Who knows how many middlemen are out there in the capital working secretly?

He just knew one location from the game, how he needed to manually tear down each suspicious location, only so that the hideous thing wouldn’t end up in this scared kitten’s hands.

’I won’t let things go like in the game and push Alice to kill her own friend,’ he resolved in his mind, holding the kitten in his lap firmly.

The purple head rested against his broad chest once more, glancing her purple eyes upwards to see his serious face, looking like he was having an internal serious debate.

She narrowed her eyes, asking in curiosity:

"Is something wrong, Eren? What’s that potion actually? Will that cure my curse for real?"

Eren looked down at her adorable, confused face and said nothing. He held her tightly, pushing her flush against him, earning a small squeak from her like a duck doll.

He chuckled, resting his chin on her soft shoulder, looking down at the ground as the itching sensation of mana entering his body got intense.

"It’s nothing, Miss kitten," he teased, playfully ruffling her purple hair, his voice low against her ear. "Please promise me. If anyone approaches you, offering the cure for your curse, just walk away from there and tell me immediately. No matter who they’re, even some high-ranking noble, someone you knew from years ago, or someone everyone respects, hell, even if they’re royalty. Just tell me before taking anything."

"I— is that... something bad?" She asked in a whisper, voice breaking against his sudden tightness around her slender waist. "If it really cures me. It might be... a good thing, right?"

"No," he replied quickly. "It’s not good, it might hurt your body instead of fixing you. So, don’t even imagine consuming those illegal things."

She snuggled on his lap, looking up at him, asking innocently, "Even if it has an imperial stamp on it?"

’This girl really has the IQ of a goldfish?’ he wondered, genuinely amused by her innocence.

Eren gave a theatrical exasperation, his warm breath tickling softly against her neck. "No wonder the cold Aria took interest in you, calling you her little kitten." He teased with a chuckle, trying his best to hold his laugh. "You don’t even have the survival instincts of a cat."

"Hey, that’s rude," she pouted, her soft cheeks puffing in adorable anger, trying to give an elbow shot against his ribs which obviously had no effect on him. He was laughing, holding her as his body shook.

After he barely managed to contain his laughter, he rested his head on her again. The playful light in his blue eyes subsided. The soothing scent of her lavender perfume relaxed his chaos-filled mind, feeling her erratic heartbeat even though she was trying her best to look calm outside.

This kitten needs to be protected no matter what.

"I’m serious, Violet," he mumbled, his voice more serious, protectiveness that instantly made her breath hold.

"You don’t need those suspicious liquids to get better. Didn’t I promise you to take care of everyone? I will hold on to this promise every day, every minute, and every second. You had me, no matter what. I will help you to get better, to make you walk in crowds, to talk to people, to make new friends, without fear of affecting them. I will make sure you’ll get that happiness no matter what, even if it costs my time, my mind, and even my body. I will gladly use everything in my power."

"Soo promise me, Miss Violet. Promise that you’ll rely on me? Promise me you’ll never be back in that isolated corner of your bed, throwing those lethal teddy bears on my face."

She chuckled at his words, yet her chest was tightening with overwhelming feelings of joy, being protected by a man she started loving. His words somehow always make her push herself more, showing she won’t be alone again.

Because of him she got hope, new friends, and a new life.

She always questions whether the feelings inside are genuine or just gratitude for his help. But right now, right at this moment, she found the answer: she loves him so much, what’s to be with him, even if it meant sharing this Playboy idiot with other girls.

He looked down at her smiling, and somehow rather than feeling adorable or protective, he felt—

"Beautiful."

The word in his mind blurted out from his lips in a whisper.

"What?" she asked, looking up at him.

"Nothing," he replied quickly, darting his appreciative gaze away from her face. He found the corner of the room interesting all of a sudden.

She chuckled, vacated from his lap, and his thighs already went numb. She turned around and occupied his lap again, surprising him as she wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him tightly. Her face rested against his chest, hearing the familiar heartbeat of his.

"I promise," the purple-haired cutie muttered against his chest, feeling his warmth once again. "I promise that I won’t take anything suspicious just as you said. Instead...just promise me one thing in return."

Eren slowly wrapped his long hands, holding her against him firmly. He gave a gentle, yet affectionate ruffle to her purple hair like a clingy kitten.

"What is it?" He asked softly.

She buried her face deeply, hiding her flushed face from him. "Just promise me, Eren, that you won’t abandon me. Always holding me like this, talking to me, whispering those same smooth words. I don’t need anything more, even if my curse hasn’t cured. Just hold me, telling me you were there for me."

His chuckle vibrated against her, giving her an assuring pat on the back of her head. "I promise, Miss Violet," he whispered against her ear, making her an embarrassed yet most joyous girl in existence at the same time.
