Chapter 48: Chapter 48- Anger
Chapter 48- Anger
"Here, Yelena. Rize is down here." Venera said as she rushed down the stairs into the tunnel, followed by Yelena, whose expression kept darkening as they walked. She sensed several things the moment she stopped in the park, and as they got closer to them, she realized what they were.
"They planted bombs here?" She asked.
"Yes, they were planning to blow the entire place. But Rize remained behind, killed one of their awakened members, and then stopped the bomb." Venera said.
"What? Your Highness... This Rize boy, he’s the new bodyguard hired to work for you, right?" She asked. "Is he awakened?"
"Hm? No, not yet."
"How did he...?" Yelena frowned even harder in confusion. No normal person should be able to kill an awakened in any circumstances. The times that happened before could be counted on one hand, and even then, they were situations that were far more forgiving than this.
"I don’t know how, but he did it. He is amazing." Venera said with a proud tone. She couldn’t believe he pulled off such an impossible task, and she couldn’t wait to see him. He had saved her life and the lives of many others. He was a true hero.
A few moments later, the two reached the first bomb. Yelena was shocked to see the dead corpses of the attackers down there.
"Did you kill them, Your Highness?"
"Yes, Rize and I."
"..."
’They’re lucky bastards to die by Her Highness’ hands.’
"Rize! Are you there?!" She yelled for him, her voice echoing through the tunnels. However, she received no answer.
"So this is the bomb, huh?" Yelena muttered as she inspected it with her eyes before she noticed the open panel. Looking down, she was surprised by what she saw. "He had overwritten the system’s code to stop the bomb... Very smart."
’Who is this kid?’ Yelena frowned. ’No wonder His Majesty wanted him to be Princess Venera’s bodyguard... Not shabby at all.’
"Yelena, can you spread your senses and look for him?" Venera asked. "He must be somewhere around here."
"Yes, your highness."
Yelena stood up as she channeled her essence. Instantly, all her senses expanded to hundreds of meters in every direction, checking every nook and cranny of the tunnel system. However, after a few seconds of searching, she found nothing.
"Aside from the dead corpses, there is no one here."
"Huh?" Venera frowned as unease suddenly crept into her heart. "Can you expand your search to the entire park?"
"Yes, of course."
Closing her eyes, Yelena focused her senses as she spread them even more, using even more Essence. She looked in every building, every alley, every ride, and every possible hiding spot. Her mind could register and comprehend everything with great detail and proficiency.
But... Nothing.
"He isn’t here, Your Highness. I can’t find him." Yelena said.
"..." That was when Venera’s eyes widened as she looked all around her. "Where could’ve he gone? He was injured to the shoulder and ribs; he could’ve not walked out of the park before we arrived here."
The more she thought about it, the more her unease grew. A thousand bad scenarios popped into her mind.
As Yelena watched the changing emotions on the princess’ face, she received a call on her earpiece.
"What?"
"We have taken down several of them, Ma’am. The situation is almost contained."
"Good job. Have you caught anyone alive?"
"We did. They have tried to kill themselves by biting their tongue, Ma’am."
"Keep them alive. I will talk to them when I’m back." She said before she hung up.
"Come on, let’s go, Your Highness. We can’t stay here. My team will take care of the rest."
"No, I can’t leave without Rize. He is somewhere. They must’ve taken him away." Venera said.
"What do you mean?" Yelena asked. "There is no way anyone could’ve left this place. We have closed every possible exit."
"What about hidden exits? Ones that neither you nor I know about?" Venera asked. "Were you even aware of this tunnel system before?"
"..."
"There must’ve been a hidden exit they could escape from in case the situation got out of control," Venera said as she looked at Yelena, her eyes cold and angry. "If you can’t sense Rize anywhere, that means he isn’t here, and he was taken away with them."
"Why wouldn’t they simply kill him?" Yelena asked. "They don’t seem to care whether people are young or old before they kill them."
"..." Venera looked left and right as she thought about it. Then, it dawned on her. "It’s what he did. They must’ve known that he had killed their awakened and then stopped the bomb. That is very impressive by every measure. But... We don’t have time. We need to find him. I don’t think they will keep him alive for long."
Venera turned around as she started walking out of the tunnel. Her eyes were filled with so much anger and hatred that even Yelena felt it in her mere presence. Venera was pissed.
’I’ve never seen Her Highness so angry before...’ Yelana thought to herself. Whoever this boy was, it was clear that Venera saw him highly and didn’t want to lose him. So, Yelena didn’t waste any more time as she followed her princess.
***
In a matter of minutes, the Royal Knights took control of the entire place. There was no fight, but rather a one-sided massacre. The attackers never stood a chance, so it was very swift. Not long after, the police and medics walked in to bring the dead corpses out and save those who were lucky enough to find a hiding spot amidst the chaos.
Everyone watched from the outside and on their TVs in horror at the tragedy. A tragedy that the capital had never seen before. Nobody could believe their eyes.
Seeing people crying near the corpses of their loved ones was a sight that was bound to remain engraved in their minds forever.
At the same time, the turmoil began. People who were waiting for such an opportunity started stirring the pot, and not before long, News Outlets started publishing the headlines.
’Terrorist attack on the capital! Casualties in the hundreds!’
’Bloodshed in the amusement park! Tragedy beyond understanding!’
"Many have died, and we still do not know who the attackers are or what they wanted. We have lost countless innocent lives and yet... The Royal Family is yet to publish a response."
"We need answers!!"
"This is unbelievable. Our city is known for being the safest place in the world and yet... Today, that idea has been heavily damaged."
"We can’t even go to the amusement park without fearing for our lives. How could this be a life to live? Our nation has been in a decline for a long time, and change must happen."
Voices rose from every corner as angry people started speaking. Nobody could blame them for their anger, and before long, many adopted that idea. The decline of their nation, the lack of safety, the ever-so distant Royal Family that seems detached from its people.
Even those who support and revere the Royal Family could not deny the fact that this attack was a huge reputation damage, not just to the nation but also to the family. After all, how could they allow for such a humiliating and horrible attack to happen in their backyard? Under their noses.
People were bound to talk and soon enough... Talk they will.
