Chapter 49: Chapter 49- Lost

Chapter 49- Lost

After leaving the park, Venera got in the car with Yelena and left the scene. Crowds were still gathered there, so they had to move in secrecy so as not to be noticed. Venera stared through the window.

"Lead me to the man you captured, Yelena," Venera said. "I need to talk to him."

"Your Highness, I can’t put you in any more risk. Please, leave this matter in my ha-"

"Yelena." Venera looked at her coldly. "It’s an order."

"..." Seeing that look on the princess’ face, she knew she could not speak to her at that moment. She nodded her head. "Understood, Your Highness."

Venera then turned around and stared outside again. The loud sounds coming from the crowd made her realize the sheer disaster that befell their city. She could see the terror in their eyes, the confusion, the... fear.

’This won’t pass easily. Far from it.’ Venera thought to herself. "People won’t remain silent about this."

"We can’t do much beyond trying to contain it and save what could be saved. Your father knows best." Yelena said with a calm tone. Even though she appeared relaxed, deep down, she knew how messed up this situation was.

However, she could not judge the severity of this problem until the king himself spoke. Until then, she had to simply do her job and make these idiots pay for what they did.

The car moved through the streets of the city until it stopped at the nearest police station, where the prisoner was held. Leaving the car, Venera walked to the door.

"Hey, hey, hey, where do you think you’re going, Ma’am?" A police officer stopped her, only for Venera to look at him. For a second, the police officer didn’t register what he was seeing until he realized.

"Y-Your... YOUR HIGHNESS!!" He instantly kneeled down. "My deepest apologies! I did not expec-"

"It’s fine," Venera said. "Where is the prisoner?"

"We have put him in custody."

"Lead me to him now," Venera said as she walked in. Then, the police officer looked at Yelena and froze before he saluted her. "General Yelena!"

"Keep up the good work," Yelena said as she walked past him into the station, leaving the stunned man behind.

"General Yelena... complimented me... I’m..." He shook in his place as if he was spasming. This was the best moment in his life, and he was never going to forget it.

As the two walked through the corridors of the station, many police officers greeted them with shock in their eyes. Nobody expected the princess herself to come to the station.

"We have tried to talk to him, but he refuses to talk." An officer explained. "He also tried to kill himself multiple times. We barely could stop him."

"That’s fine," Venera said. "Yelena, stay here. I want to talk to him alone."

"... Are you sure?"

"Yes. I will get what I want from him. One way or the other." Venera replied with a chilling tone.

’I didn’t think the princess could be this scary. Oh, they really messed up.’ Yelena crossed her arms as she rested against the wall and watched through the window as Venera walked in.

The man was sitting in his cell, shackled from head to toe and looking down. He was bloodied from the beating he received. But when he heard footsteps, he spoke.

"Give it up... I will never say a wor-"

But when he saw the person who appeared before him, his eyes widened. "You..."

The distinct white hair, the sharp eyes, the beautiful face beyond reason. He knew who it was in an instant.

"You’re the princess..." He muttered as his eyes flared up with hatred. "What the hell do you want? I didn’t expect the high and mighty Royal Family to come to me so soon. Weren’t you guys going to kill me and end it? You have a knack for getting rid of things that annoy you."

"..." Venera didn’t reply as she squinted her eyes. "Where did your comrades go? They have something I want."

"... Pffffft! Hahahaha, you’re funny. Yeah, hold on, I’m about to tell you exactly that." The man said sarcastically.

"..." Venera looked at him silently for a second. "You do realize that your fate won’t be as nice as you expect, right? You’re going to be tortured for a very long time until every neuron in your brain is completely fried."

"And so what? I was ready to sacrifice myself for my people. For Zathari."

"This Zathari... What is it? What is this place?" She asked. Even in her extensive studies the geopolitical state of her country and many other countries, Venera had never heard of Zathari.

"Of course you don’t know... Why would the high and mighty princess hear about us? Lowly creatures." The man said. "You could never look down from your high palace to the people lower than you if your life depended on it, spoiled brat!"

"..."

"You all think you’re the forces of good while we have to suffer your ’good deeds’."

"What are you talking about?"

"I’m talking about my people!!! Our blood! The lives that you took away from us!! You are all monsters! Demons! Especially your father. That demon, he will rot in hell for all he did!" The man yelled at the top of his lungs.

’What did my father do...?’ Venera could see that he wasn’t lying in his eyes. But she didn’t know what he was talking about. This was all too confusing and odd.

"Listen, I will give you a far more merciful fate if you tell me where your surviving comrades went."

"Over my dead body."

"..." Venera stared at him coldly. "I gave you a choice, and you decided your own fate. You will wish you had taken my proposal."

Venera said coldly as she turned around and walked out.

"Did he speak?"

"No," Venera said coldly. "They’re suicidal... They would rather suffer and die than have an easy way out."

"Not suicidal." Yelena shook her head. "They just have a blind belief in whatever purpose they’re following."

"..." Venera didn’t reply as she closed her eyes and sucked a deep breath. "Do you know what he was talking about, Yelena?"

"The Zathari?" Yelena asked. "I know a thing or two."

"Then, tell me what-"

"I cannot, Your Highness. It would break the oath I took." Yelena replied. "If you wish to know, perhaps His Majesty would tell you the truth."

"..."

"Come on, let’s get you home. I promise you I will try my best to find Rize as soon as possible. But, for now, you must remain calm and ready, Your Highness. Things won’t get easier."

Venera clenched her fists as she tried to suppress the frustration she was feeling at that moment. All her anger, hatred, and confusion were mixed up together, and it suffocated her.

’I need to find Rize. I need to.’ She thought to herself. She didn’t care how or with which method; she must find him alive before something bad happens to him.

Her one and only lead so far that he gave her was this word... Zathari. A word she didn’t know, but it seemed her father knew about it.

As much as she hated it, she knew she had no other choice. She had to go talk to him in person. It was all for Rize.
