Valerie took the hand offered to her, although not without a hint of suspicion towards its owner. Yet the merchant simply gave her another charming smile as he helped her to her feet, before kicking her cane into his hands and handing it to her with a slight bow.

Naturally, Valerie recognised this man. Mister Bloom from the auction house, The one who had inspected her spear, as well as a few other items when she was in desperate need of money. But with her various investments, future cheats and book sales, Valerie hadn’t felt the need for money in a while.

"I don’t have anything to sell you." Valerie spoke bluntly, quickly looking away from Mister Bloom to get back to her hateful glaring and murder plan plotting.

"Oh, How cold and merciless. But what else would I expect from a great Baroness such as yourself." He said with a faux offence, before lowering his voice for the second half.

Valerie whipped her head towards him and narrowed her eyes in a new wave of suspicion that just made him chuckle. He offered another hand and bowed his head, offering for her to walk with him. A hand that Valerie reluctantly took as he ushered her away from the site of embarrassment, as robotic workers rushed out to clean up her mess.

"Yes, you suspect correctly. I do know who you are. But no, I have not told anyone. As for how I know that, well... a man needs his secrets every now and then to stay mysterious, for the ladies and such.

But really, it comes down to knowing the right people and being in the right place at the right time. You’d be surprised what people accidentally expose when they think no one will notice."

Valerie eyed the man more, scanning him for any signs of a strange magic. He had magic, but so did plenty of others here so it wasn’t exactly damning. It was a little more advanced than others, but no big deal, this was a party of elites after all.

At the very least he wasn’t a Warlock. However someone in this room was, as Valerie realised. Her eyes shaking with rage at the sight of that disgusting aura clinging to and polluting Percy.

"Ah, so it really is like that." Mister Bloom muttered, drawing Valerie’s gaze back to him.

"Like what?"

"Jealousy, or Envy I can never remember which it is. The woman’s urge to slaughter the competition to make room for herself. A tale as old as time." He said with a shake of his head and a click of the tongue.

"You’re wrong. This isn’t about envy or jealousy, it’s about justice. She deserves death for what she is doing to him. You might not believe it, or even understand it. But she is simply evil. If I was able to, I would do it now, I don’t care.

She’s lucky that I can’t. But that doesn’t mean others can’t, and can’t do it more subtly than me. All it would take is the right person to stumble across her whilst she was sleeping and-"

Mister Bloom cut off her fantasy by quickly raising his hand, before letting out a low chuckle.

"I’m afraid I need to stop you there. Not because of the content of your... business. Business is personal, after all, and we rarely ask questions that we don’t need to know the answer to. That is bad for business.

But what I do know is that you clearly haven’t thought this through."

"Disagree. I’m thinking about it quite vividly right now."

"Not like that. I don’t mean the action, I’m sure you have plenty of ideas for that. What I mean, is the outcome.

The consequences for your actions. Consider this, if you attack her and god forbid she dies, do you think that no one will retaliate?

She has friends, family, a backing. She even has your man at her beck and call, and you don’t know that taking her out will fix it, now do you?

More than that, she is part of the illustrious Golden Princes, who are backed by the Monarch Clan. How much do you know about them? Do you know the power of their leader? Do you know what they are capable of and whether you could survive the storm that they would bring down upon you for harming one of their core members?

Do you know anything about them?"

Valerie pursed her lips in annoyance, inspecting the floor as if it could hold the answers to his questions. But it did not, and she couldn’t think of a rebuttal either, because he was right. She was mad... beyond mad, she wanted to rip Kaleigh apart limb from limb and see the look on her face as Valerie ripped the blackened heart from her chest.

But she knew nothing about the Monarch’s. Not where their base was, not the full scope of their numbers or what they were capable of. She could get some from Bai Yin, the one she was going to send to assassinate Kaleigh, but the important information Bai Yin either did not know or it had been locked away in her mind so it could not be drawn out easily. Not for lack of trying.

"You’re right... I don’t. But I get the feeling you do." Valerie muttered, casting another suspicious glare towards Mister Bloom, who simply shrugged nonchalantly.

"I might. I might not. You would certainly be surprised by how much I know about certain things. But what is important is not what you know, but who you know. That is the purpose of these parties. To build connections and establish deals, and perhaps a bit of boozing on top if we have the time - which we always do.

For instance, I see that my connection to Mr. Smith has been useful to you." He gestured to the cane in Valerie’s hand, before taking a pair of drinks from a robotic butler, and handing one of them to Valerie.

"Yes, it has. Better than expected, actually. We recently took him on as an employee/guild member. I have to thank you for making such an introduction." Valerie said with a professional smile, sipping idly at the drink before twisting her face in disgust.

it was a healthy low alcohol beverage popular amongst the ultra wealthy, especially those who were focused on their organics more than their cybernetics. It was supposed to promote a bunch of things that they associated with good looks, but it tasted like crap.

"Is that so... Fascinating. I wouldn’t have expected that. You must have offered him something incredible for him to leave that shop of his.

Will he be helping in the creation of more items such as the one you sold me?"

"Y- No. I told you, that spear was an ancient family heirloom. Nothing more." Valerie quickly corrected herself.

"Haha, of course. Of course." Mister Bloom laughed, before leaning close and lowering his voice.

"Then perhaps as part of that thanks, you will tell me how your family managed to come from the world of Dawd, or more likely how you brought over that item with you."
