Valerie stumbled back, clutching at her head as her legs trembled and gave out underneath her. Her tailbone smacked against the cold, well polished floor of the ballroom, as she found herself back in reality.

Which was unfortunate for the owner of this delightful ballroom, as Valerie immediately turned over and hacked up a mouthful of a thick, viscous black sludge that was mixed with her blood.

Although to Valerie, it felt like she had been in that mind-scape for close to half an hour, in reality it had been barely a second. To everyone else, she had simply grabbed Percy, muttered something as she stared into his eyes, before she was ’shoved’ backwards and hacked up blood.

It was not the best look.

Her head was ringing, and it was getting difficult to concentrate on anything as all of her thoughts were completely scrambled. Most of her minds energy was being dedicated to remembering who or what she was, why she was here and so on.

That gap in the ’front of house’ of her mind, allowed something else to slip through just for a moment.

Valerie’s eyes snapped open, eyes that were pitch black and held the mercy of a bloodthirsty shark. Those cold eyes latched onto Kaleigh, as the wicked witch clambered to her feet with a cocky smirk plastered across her face.

Valerie immediately tried to lunge forwards, only to collapse again when her legs failed that attempt at sudden movement.

She grit her teeth, digging her fingers into the floor hard enough to crack it.

"This damned body... Why did it have to be this one? Why couldn’t she have let me take the useful one." She growled lowly, her voice slightly deeper and more animalistic.

Her eyes slowly reverted back to their natural form, the blackness retreating back until it was contained within her pupils alone, as Valerie’s anger immediately flushed away and was replaced with confusion.

Luckily, Kaleigh stepped forwards and began to speak, giving Valerie a reason to be angry again.

"That’s what you get you stupid bitch. That’s what happens when you try to steal something that isn’t yours! Get it through your thick, cripple brain. He’s mine!"

Kaleigh spat at Valerie, before lifting her hand and swinging it down to slap her back.

However the slap never landed, as Percy’s hand wrapped tight around her wrist, stopping it before it could come close to landing.

"What are you doing? Let me go! She deserves this for what she tried to do to my man." She barked at Percy, as if she was scolding a dog.

"What I did?! What I did?! You should be in prison for what you are doing you sick bitch!" Valerie shouted back.

Kaleigh’s face twisted with rage as she tried to step forwards and deal another slap, but her hand was still kept in Percy’s vice-like grip as he scowled deeply.

"Stop it. Now." He said lowly.

"What?!" Kaleigh screeched like a harpy, her eyes widening in confusion at this sheer act of defiance.

"Y-you are defending her? Over me?! I am your Queen. You love me. You do as I say!" She hissed through gritted teeth, her eyes starting to glow a deep purple.

"I said Stop!" Percy shouted, his voice booming throughout the party, carried by a wave of righteous power. It silenced all of the discussions that hadn’t already been interrupted and drew all attention towards the three of them.

Percy’s eyes, two suns of pure golden energy, burned into the woman in front of him as he lowered his voice.

"You will not touch her. You will not harm her. Not while I am here. Now stop acting like a spoiled brat, and let’s walk away. You are embarrassing me, and you’re embarrassing yourself."

Kaleigh pursed her lips, wanting to argue and scream some more, but one glance around at the countless eyes glaring at them was enough to douse her fire, leaving her to simmer in her rage.

She ripped her arm from Percy’s hand, whipped him with her hair as she spun around and stormed off.

Percy sighed heavily, his eyes losing their glow as he looked apologetically at Valerie. But at the sound of Kaleigh snapping her fingers, his face fell and his eyes regained their glassy, distant look as he turned and followed after her.

Valerie sat motionless for a few seconds, as the party picked up around her like nothing had happened, uncaring of the outbursts of children having their relationship squabbles. She wanted to cast a spell, to reduce that miserable witch to ashes with just a thought.

She wanted to rip the implants from her body one by one, to force her to stare into her eyes and see how she liked being brainwashed as Valerie forced her to kill herself.

But she couldn’t. She couldn’t do any of it. Not just because of the inconvenient fact that murder was still illegal.

Despite that, She tried. God knows she tried and tried, wanting nothing more than to ruin that woman’s life for everything that she had done and the way she treated her friend.

But whatever happened to her in that mind-scape left her magic out of reach. The channels that her mana usually freely flowed through was clogged and heavily polluted by the rot that had latched onto her. Like a river that someone had dumped waste into until the water ran dry.

It was going to take her time to unclog it and purify the pollution. Time that she was forced to spend sitting on the floor, watching her friend dance with the woman that was playing with his mind and twisting it like her personal play thing.

"Do you need a hand Madam? It would be such a shame to wrinkle such a delightful dress." A sweet and charming voice sounded from beside her, as a hand with golden fingers lowered down into her periphery.

"Besides, I was hoping to talk to you myself, and find out if you have any more of those wonderful items that you sold so long ago."
