The portal thrummed deeply before spitting out another wolf into their world. However this one was much smaller.

Its legs were short and stubby, as was its snout which was rather close to its face and only highlighted the large, innocent eyes that it had.

Its fur had a sheen closer to a brushed steel rather than the polished silver of its predecessor. It tried to bark at them but only managed high pitched little yips. When it started baring its little needle teeth in an adorable display of intimidation, it didn’t seem to account for its tail which was constantly swishing happily behind it which only ruined its display further.

The Silver Wolf Puppy, small enough that it might trip trying to bite your ankles, let out a few more yipping barks and stomped its little feet at the humans surrounding it.

The ground began to rumble beneath its feet, as wooden spears formed and quickly erupted out of the grass. However they hit nothing but air as the puppy was lifted off of its feet, starting to levitate by the power of Valerie’s bloodline.

She regarded it coldly as she held it in the air, before flicking her fingers.

The puppy let out a sharp yelp of surprise as it flew through the air, right into Valerie’s awaiting hand as she grabbed it by the scruff of its neck.

Shifting it into a more comfortable position, she simply scooped her hand underneath its belly as it was tiny enough to comfortably fit in her palm.

Of course the puppy didn’t quite understand what was happening, or what it had been saved from. But it did know that the one that was holding it smelled odd. A predator, like mother, but not mother at the same time. Possibly safe, but possibly dangerous too.

So, with all the options presented to it in its tiny, barely formed mind, it just started to gnaw at Valerie’s fingers. Digging its razor sharp needle teeth into her flesh, or at least trying to, as they just scraped harmlessly off of the small barrier that Valerie created around her fingers.

"Clearly," Valerie said calmly, not bothered by the little creature that was attempting to consume her fingers like sausages,

"Our aversion method is not working. Although this particular case was because I broke it, but I see plenty more corpses around here, and further out, that tell me that this has been an issue even before I came here.

Of course, we knew that the perception field was not perfect. Things could walk in by accident, but this seems too many for a simple accident. Also, how did some of them get so far out? Did they slip by you whilst you were sleeping or something?"

"I... may have let a few of them go." The Dryad muttered, slowly reverting back from her monstrous form and returning back to normal, as she knitted her fingers in front of her chest bashfully.

"Not far enough that they would have done damage. But the forest needed nutrients, and they were eagerly offering themselves. It was just easier to let them think they escaped and run that far out than bring them there myself."

"Oh, is that so?" Valerie narrowed her eyes, glaring at the personification of nature like a scolding mother, as the Dryad became even more shy. A sight that completely threw the soldiers through a loop as they mentally compared it to what they had just seen.

"And you wouldn’t have happened to be calling the creatures through the portal, in search of more fertiliser, now would you?"

"No! Absolutely not! Well... Perhaps one or two, but not until I realised that the field was not working properly. Something is leading them here, forcing them to go through the field. In many of the corpses, I found these."

The Dryad raised her hand, causing a pink flower to sprout, grow, and bloom all in a matter of seconds. Sitting within that blooming flower bed was a collection of small, leech-like creatures. Each one with a hole punctured through them and the remnants of black blood stained on their flesh.

"These little creatures are a stain of poison that I could not allow to fertilise my land. Not everything that came through had them, but many of those that immediately tried to run did. All of it happened after the tainted human returned."

"Wait, what? He came back?"

"Who came back?" Mister Bloom asked. After listening for so long, and seeing all of these strange things, his senses for valuable information was starting to tingle. Besides, if Valerie forgot that he was here, he might miss out on a valuable business opportunity for something more pressing, and he couldn’t allow that.

Valerie glanced at him, clearly able to read the sleazy thoughts on his face, but she sighed and answered anyway. It was good that he knew considering what she was going to ask of him.

"A Human who has been trying to corrupt our worlds. A warlock, someone who took a pact with the outer gods in Dawd. He was the one responsible for the creature in the city."

"A person did that?" A few of the soldiers muttered, exchanging a few murmurs between each other.

"A Warlock," Bloom hummed, " I believe that is the class that many of those within the top 100 of the power rankings have. Seems that they get easy access to power that many others struggle with.

I wonder if the absolute leader of the board, the great Belladonna, uses the same method."

Valerie shot him a death glare, to which he simply responded with a smarmy and smug smile, before he chuckled.

"Ah, of course not. How silly could I be to assume such a thing. I’m sure that she got her power through hard work. Not like those dirty cheaters. But how could gods in a game effect people in real life?

You aren’t saying that Dawd is real, are you?" Bloom asked with a fake gasp and shock that really proved that he should never go into acting.

Valerie couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him.

"That is exactly what I am saying, which is where you lot come in. Honestly, I wasn’t sure about bringing you along to begin with, but it seems this has turned into the perfect opportunity. Some of you will stay here and work with our Dryad friend to establish a base camp here, at the portal."

"So you want us on guard duty? Killing monsters that come through, that won’t be too hard. But why don’t we just blow it up?"

One of the soldiers asked, hoisting his gun up into the air and cocking it like he was already getting ready to gun something down.

"It won’t work," Valerie sighed and rolled her eyes, "Besides, we need the portal open for another reason.

We can’t close it, so we are going to move objects through it. Use their plan against them as an express way to the other world, where all the powerful weapons and mana filled meat is that can empower us on this end."

"Oh, So we just go through here and set up a base camp on the other side. I like you thinking lady. Don’t worry, we’ll have no trouble establishing a perimeter.

These things might be magic. But they got nothing on good old human engineering!" A large, meat headed mercenary chuckled as he strolled over to the portal, only to slam his head against it.

He staggered back, shaking his head as what little brains he actually had took a few seconds to readjust to the sudden blow, before he tried again. And again, and again. He kept trying, bouncing off of the portal like a fly trying to get through a window, not understanding what was stopping him.

Only when he was about to punch it, did Valerie place her cane on his shoulder and gently direct him away from it.

She tucked her cane underneath her armpit as she gave her demonstration. First, she slowly pushed the puppy through the portal, letting its wagging tail and fluffy butt disappear into it, before pulling them out again.

The puppy didn’t seem to notice or care, its tail still waggling happily as it gnawed at Valerie’s shielded fingers.

Then she did it with her bare hand, which pressed flat against the invisible field protecting the portal.

"See? It only lets them through. It’s something about the way they are made. It’s like its scanning us, our DNA, and excluding anything that is human. I think... I’m not entirely sure. Either way, It’s actively keeping us out."

Otherwise we could hop over there, suck up all the mana and easily beat them. So they keep us out and let them through without a hassle. Of course they let through mana as they come anyways, but it’s not nearly enough."

Valerie turned to the soldier as she explained. Thankfully, she saw the faint hope of understanding dawning within his eyes as he nodded softly.

"Well then, what do we do? How do we get to the other side?"

"It’s simple. We don’t." She answered with a bright smile, before turning her eyes to the Dryad.

"She does. I will make an item that lets us find where this leads on the other side, and we send some people that you trust over in Dawd. Then our lovely Dryad friend ferries the items or what have you between the worlds and you, Mister Bloom, get the opportunity to sell the spoils of one world to the people of another."

A wide smile spread across Blooms face as his eyes sparkled an even brighter gold. She could actually swear that she saw the Ollies symbol flash in his pupils as he imagined all of the money he would be raking in.

"You expect me to work with the Men of Iron?" The Dryad asked coldly, not hiding the anger in her tone.

"Yes, I hope it can be the case. Of course, I wouldn’t do so without another deal. However, I think that is best done by the man who is going to be running this place.

A business man could absolutely get a much better deal that benefits the both of you than I ever could. So why don’t you two talk it out, I have some other matters to attend to."
