Hashing out the details of the new deal was more complicated than Valerie had expected. With her dealings with Brownies such as Sebbie and Amodites, the rule abiding demons, she felt that she was quite adept at unravelling tricky wording or crafting her own carefully worded statements.

But the conversation between Mister Bloom and the Dryad was on an entirely different level.

They were getting everything down to the smallest minute detail possible, and were having a fencing match of sharp wit and silver tongues. Creating loopholes of their own and closing up the others loopholes, each one becoming more obscure and hidden with every layer of detail or rewriting of the agreement.

Sometimes in their rewrites, only a few or a single word was changed. But that was enough to change the entire meaning of certain portions, at least in their eyes, so that it was no longer favourable for them.

It was far more cut throat and vicious than anything Valerie had seen, and this was just a simple conversation.

However eventually, the terms were set, even if all of the parties involved in those terms were not present to agree to it.

For example, when it came to the facility that was going to be built outside the portal. The Dryad vehemently refused to allow any ’Man of Iron’ construction to take place in the area. That meant no steel, no concrete etc. They couldn’t even dig out the foundations or chop down the trees to make a simple wooden cabin.

It was understandable, after all if you were the tree you wouldn’t want to be chopped down to make way for someone’s house, now would you?

Instead, Trivian had been ’volunteered’ for the task of building a facility in what the Dryad called the ’worldly’ way. Essentially he would use his magic to shape the earth and even mold the trees, so that they could become a living facility.

No need for chopping or killing. It was just up to Valerie to break the news to him.

Other such terms included the spreading of the Dryad’s seeds around the world, to give new places to live for her Kin, as well as the profit margins for Mister Bloom. The Dryad didn’t care at all for human concepts of money, but luckily Valerie was there to take her cut of the deal off of her hands. It was only the kind thing to do and worth sticking around for.

But eventually Valerie did have to leave, and so after Valerie quickly knocked up a tracking beacon out of some of the Magic crystals and beast bones that she had on hand, they left a contingent of the mercenaries behind to help guard the portal before they each returned to their various flying automobiles.

When she returned back to the guild house, it wasn’t hard to find Trivian as he was out in the garden where he always was.

He was tending to the tree that had spawned from the Dryads heart seed, different from the ones she wanted to spread around the world.

Although small, this tree was starting to take on a slightly humanoid appearance, and it was becoming impossible to miss the face that was forming within the twisted knot of the trunk.

It was slightly creepy, but that didn’t seem to bother Trivian as he tended to its roots with his magic, humming happily to himself as he planted a few beautiful flowers around the tree’s base.

"Looking good Black Thumb." Valerie said with a laugh as she approached.

"How do you feel about going on a little adventure, hmm?"

"An adventure? What kind of adventure? Is there signs of another mons- Why do you have a dog?" Trivian frowned as he finally turned to face her and noticed the fluffy mass in Valerie’s hand, which had fallen asleep after they had gotten into the air.

"This little guy? Oh, I just found him when I was out and about. He’s too small to be a good snack, so I thought that we could keep him around. Like a mascot or a guard dog or something."

"Guard dog? Don’t we already have Bai Yin for that?" He snorted

"Is that what you think? Did you hear that Yin? Guard dog, that’s what he thinks of you." Valerie said, looking over his shoulder with a mischievous grin.

Trivian’s face paled and he let out a small yelp as he whipped his head around expecting to find the terrifying assassin woman standing right behind him. But there was nothing but the tree he had been tending to.

He let out a short sigh of relief, although it didn’t stop his eyes glancing around nervously. Not seeing her did not mean she was not there, he had learned that the hard way on multiple occasions. Especially those in which he thought he had absolute privacy.

"I hate it when you do that." Trivian grumbled, shooting Valerie a glare that didn’t stop her wicked giggles.

"I know, but it’s just funny every time." She cackled, her movements enough to wake up the puppy in her hand.

It looked around with tired eyes, one of its ears folded against its head from its sleeping position, as it let out a happy yip and wagged its tail.

"Why do we need a Dog though? Don’t you already have Beans? You know what they say about cats and dogs living together."

Trivian reached up, giving the puppy a few scratches underneath its chin which made it let out a few happy grumbles and growls.

"I know, but moving Beans back and forth all the time is exhausting. Plus whenever he stays here, he gets fat.

Besides, I think Lucy would explode if she saw Jason and this little cutey, and I really want to see that."

"Oh, now that you mention it, that would be funny." Trivian laughed, gesturing towards the house.

"I think the two of them are inside, if you want to spring the surprise."

"Really... good to know. You want to come in and see?"

"Haha, no. I’m sure I’ll hear it anyways, so I’ll spare myself the ear damage.

Oh, what was that adventure you were talking about anyways?"

"Hmm? Oh, well... I might have maybe volunteered you for a job." Valerie said with an awkward smile, before the sound of Trivians phone ringing interrupted her.

It was an older model, like she had to use. Valerie had helped him pick it out after his bodies rejection of implants.

"Adventure calls!" She shouted over her shoulder, as she turned on her heels and skipped off. Leaving a confused Trivian to glance at his phones screen.

"Who the heck is Mister Bloom?" He muttered, before answering the call and lifting it to his ear.
