Vulkan and the others looked down over Holy Terra, their expressions heavy.
The former center of the Imperium, humanity's throneworld, had already been corrupted by darkness and reduced entirely to ruins.
Across the continents, countless shocking cracks split the land. Every building had become rubble, and magma churned below.
The one thing worth being grateful for was that the mortals on this planet had been evacuated long ago. They had not been caught up in this terrible disaster.
Within Terra, the dark rifts were continuously spewing forth black monsters. They crawled across every landmass like swarms of ants and gathered toward the region where the Himalayas stood.
That was the Imperial Palace, the location of the Golden Throne, and the source of the Dark King's birth.
The God of Destruction was desperately summoning His claws in order to eliminate any factor that might stop His birth.
For example, the ancient artifact Shadowlight, as well as human forces such as the Savior, the Primarchs, and the Space Marines.
"Savior above, what do we do?" Sa'kan asked as he watched the scene, his heart trembling.
Any warrior who saw such endless monsters filled with destructive evil energy would feel fear despite himself.
They had never seen anything so terrifying.
The Imperium had used the Blackstone Fortresses to sever the Dark King's tentacles across vast areas of the galaxy and the Warp, continuously lowering the possibility of His birth.
Even so, the Dark King's counterattack and struggle were still frightening. A tide of monsters on this scale was enough to drown any warrior.
Even a Primarch.
"The nearby dark rifts have already been blocked. Has the Imperial fleet's support still not arrived?" Vulkan asked, somewhat worried.
Judging from the current situation, even if they landed on the surface to support the Savior and his brothers, they would not be able to hold out for long.
The Lord of the Salamanders looked at the somewhat empty, undisturbed void around Terra and felt deeply concerned.
The forces nearby that could offer support had basically all landed to fight. The warships that had previously been stationed here had also been torn apart by the dark rifts, leaving only burning wreckage behind.
"We land and fight. One more force means one more trace of hope."
Vulkan sighed. His voice was not loud, but it struck like a heavy hammer on an anvil, driving itself into the heart of every Salamander.
"Even if hope is faint, even if it is as small as a spark, the Salamanders will fight to the last moment. We use flesh and blood as fuel, and that flame shall never die!"
In such a dark and difficult situation, he had to inspire morale and strengthen their resolve before battle. That, too, was an indispensable ritual.
"Born in battle-fire, tempered on the anvil!" the Salamanders warriors said, suddenly standing at attention, each word firm and deliberate.
Whether it was the Lord of the Salamanders or those warriors, all of them were prepared to sacrifice themselves.
Just as the drop facilities were being loaded, the void suddenly changed.
Whoosh!
A gigantic, shark-shaped battle barge emerged from sublight travel and appeared in the nearby airspace.
It was a battle barge called the Bloodthirsty Shark. It was two or three times larger than the Flame-Forged, its hull covered in relic ornaments and painted with a dazzling coating.
To put it simply, it was obscenely rich.
The contrast was so obvious that the Salamanders' battle barge now looked like a little sampan.
After that, even more shark-shaped battle barges appeared. It was clearly a complete fleet formation.
"It is the Carcharodons Chapter…" Sa'kan said loudly as he looked at the Bloodthirsty Shark, feeling a little sour inside.
That Chapter's fleet was comparable in size to a large sector fleet. It could only be described as outrageously wealthy.
The Carcharodons were one of His Savior Majesty's most favored Chapters, treated far better than the Salamanders.
The Salamanders had joined fairly late. In that sovereign's—no, that adoptive father's—sequence, they were ranked outside the top ten.
"Haha, Lord Vulkan, you have arrived too!" Tyberos's voice rang through the vox-channel. He sounded carefree and bold.
After returning from the Warp disaster zone, he had gathered the Carcharodons fleet at the greatest possible speed and rushed to Holy Terra to provide support.
This might well be the final battle. The Carcharodons could not be absent.
"Brothers, land quickly.
"The Carcharodons will support our great and supreme Savior, His Majesty, as fast as possible. We cannot let the others beat us to it!"
Tyberos's attitude was very optimistic.
He firmly believed that the Savior could resolve the Dark King, even in the face of such a fierce offensive.
More importantly, the other Legions, Chapters, and even the Redemption Fleets were already on their way.
Those fellows were howling one after another, each fiercer than the last, all wanting to win glory. The Carcharodons had to show their loyalty quickly.
The Bloodthirsty Shark broadcast down into Terra's atmosphere, expressing loyalty to the Savior. After that, Tyberos led his elites in the landing.
They did not wait for drop pods to be loaded and locked onto targets. Instead, they jumped straight off the deck.
Tyberos and his elites plummeted toward the Himalayas.
Sparks burned off them from atmospheric friction, and one unlucky bastard even started spinning wildly.
These rich warriors were all wearing the newest model of power armor, and it was a top-tier version mixed with a small amount of True-One alloy.
The newest Raptor-pattern power packs on the backs of their armor even allowed them to land directly without relying on drop pods.
Vulkan watched the Carcharodons' flashy maneuver and hesitated over whether he should simply jump down as well.
But after thinking about it, he decided not to. Jumping from low orbit would very likely leave him heavily injured, affecting the battle that followed.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
Just as the Carcharodons completed their "boarding-style" landing, new movement appeared in the airspace. One warship after another arrived.
"Reporting. Redemption Thirteenth Fleet has arrived at the designated—"
"For the Savior!"
"Ah, Ogryn praise the almighty Gene-Father."
In an instant, the New Imperium's public vox-channel became noisy. After the dark rifts were dealt with, the various Legions and fleets had all rushed to the region where Terra was located at the first possible moment.
Tens of thousands of warships appeared in low orbit over Terra, and even more were still arriving.
The dense mass of warships nearly surrounded the entire airspace around Terra.
They blotted out the sky.
Rumble, rumble, rumble—
Immediately afterward, thousands upon tens of thousands of warships launched orbital bombardments against Terra.
Countless macrocannon shells, torpedoes, lances, Hell missiles, and even holy bone-ash shells drowned the surface, falling upon the mountain-like piles of black monsters.
Several seconds later, dazzling firelight rose from Terra's pitch-black land and erupted continuously, forming dense points of burning light.
Under the devastating orbital firepower, black monsters beyond counting were annihilated.
The Imperial fleet bombarded all of Terra. This dense "glass-burning" tactic struck the black monsters to the greatest possible degree and even crystallized the land.
The once-black Terra became brilliant and variegated, reflecting the light of artillery fire through crystalized earth.
One warship even launched a cyclonic torpedo, destroying the continent on the other hemisphere and sweeping all the black monsters there into an energy storm.
In any case, Terra was beyond saving. As long as it could block the black monsters, the Departmento Munitorum could use any means available.
Of course, this had been calculated. Before resolving the Dark King, they still needed to preserve the planet's overall integrity.
Otherwise, they might harm Imperial troops or cause some other accident.
Across the vox-channel, commanders roared excitedly, ordering their fleets to strike enemies within designated ranges as much as possible in order to reduce the pressure on the Himalayas.
The Savior's hymn drifted across the entire region of Holy Terra.
"Land! Land!"
The gloom on Vulkan's face vanished, and his emotions could not help surging.
Support had arrived. The advantage now lay completely with humanity. The Dark King was merely struggling on the edge of death.
He would fight shoulder to shoulder with his brothers and eliminate the long-standing nightmare hanging above humanity's head, changing the fate of human extinction once and for all.
Vulkan and the Salamanders entered the prepared drop pods, turning into streams of fire as they fell toward the Himalayas.
After that, even more streams of fire descended, like a dense rain of flame falling in the same direction.
They were all warriors of the Imperium.
…
The Himalayas.
The entire mountain range had already become a massive battlefield. Large numbers of Titan god-engines and war machines had built defensive lines between the ravines, while hundreds of thousands of Space Marines fought within them.
Their attacks formed dense webs of fire.
They were blocking the black monsters, preventing them from charging toward the Imperial Palace and threatening high-ranking existences such as the ancient artifact or the Savior.
With the arrival of Imperial reinforcements, countless drop pods fell from the sky, and the once-crumbling battle line held.
The warriors even counterattacked against the black monsters, driving them outside the defensive perimeter.
At the center of the mountain range, the Imperial Palace had already collapsed. Even more elite warriors and curse-bound Genestealers were fighting against dark curse-bound warriors and black monsters.
"Abominations!"
Vulkan kicked the drop pod door away, charged out, smashed a dark curse-bound warrior over with a hammer blow, and crushed more black monster skulls beneath his feet.
"Roboute!"
He turned and saw something, then immediately roared and led the Salamanders warriors charging forward.
In his field of vision, Guilliman had fallen to the ground and was being surrounded and beaten by dark curse-bound warriors. His full, round backside was exceptionally conspicuous.
It was extremely tragic.
Fortunately, the Lord of the Salamanders arrived in time and hammered the dark curse-bound warriors away, freeing Guilliman from the siege.
"Brother Vulkan?" Guilliman stood up with one eye swollen. When he saw the return of his Primarch brother, he could not help smiling.
"Where is Brother Eden?" Vulkan asked immediately.
He wanted to support the Savior.
"He is fighting the Dark King. We only need to hold back that God of Destruction's claws on the outside…"
Guilliman raised a hand and pointed toward the region filled with black mist. The thick fog had almost liquefied, and it was profoundly deep.
Within the black mist was the Golden Throne, along with the Savior and the Dark Emperor, the incarnation of the Dark King.
Because of issues involving their souls, the Primarchs had no way to fight the Dark Emperor directly. They could only help from the perimeter.
After Vulkan understood the situation, he nodded and joined forces with Guilliman, holding this direction.
He knew the Savior would end all of this.
Within the black mist.
There were almost no fluctuations in this region, nor any sign of an intense battle.
It was as though no one was here.
"My tentacles! You cannot stop the birth of darkness!"
Suddenly, the Dark Emperor's roar rang out.
He was so furious, and there was also a thick sense of fear in his voice.
This incarnation of the God of Destruction had realized that his dark tentacles were being cut off by humans and daemons.
"Heh. Today, I am stuffing you back where you came from, you old bastard!"
Eden's voice came through, utterly certain.
On the platform of the Golden Throne.
This Savior and Emperor of the Imperium was still using a deadly scissor lock to pin the Dark Emperor firmly in place, suppressing him with the power of the Hope Sun.
Thankfully, no one could see any of this.
After all, the sight of the Savior and Emperor of the Imperium grappling the Dark Emperor on the ground in a naked choke was not very dignified. It would not be easy to promote later.
How shabby would that be?
Was the Imperium supposed to write in its epics that the Savior used a deadly scissor lock on the ground and crushed the head of the Dark King's incarnation between his legs?
"The people of the Imperium are very united. They have even pushed back the black tide…"
Eden was in a very good mood now.
He could feel that as the dark rifts decreased, the Dark King's power was slowly weakening.
That God of Destruction no longer had the strength to crawl out or be born in the galaxy or the Warp.
Suddenly, an even stronger power came from outside. Ripples of light that was not light slammed violently into the Golden Throne.
The ancient artifact Shadowlight had fully activated, erupting with unparalleled might and suppressing the source of this darkness.
"No…"
The Dark Emperor realized something.
He began struggling like never before. The ancient artifact was cutting apart and sealing the source of the darkness.
This would cause the destructive corruption to completely lose its chance to be born. Once this happened, He would forever lose consciousness, and even His existence itself would be lost.
That meant the Dark King would never have been born. Nor would there be any death. His very existence would be erased from the timeline.
He could not become eternal on the timeline like other supreme gods that had already been born, constantly resurrecting again and again.
From Eden's point of view, this meant aborting the Dark King at the embryo stage. Clean and decisive.
"Sorry, old bastard—or rather, Dark King. This world does not need an existence like you."
Eden hammered him with two more punches, using all his strength to suppress the Dark Emperor. At this critical moment, he absolutely could not capsize in a ditch.
"How much longer?"
He took a deep breath and felt his power continuously draining away. He was almost unable to keep suppressing the Dark Emperor's death throes.
The Golden Throne, that ruined and magnificent machine, shook violently under the power of destructive corruption and the ripples of the ancient artifact.
The tremors spread across the galaxy and even into the Warp, making even more beings tremble in fear.
Aaaah!!!
No one knew how long had passed. At the final instant before Eden's strength was exhausted, a violent ripple suddenly slammed down.
The Dark Emperor immediately stopped struggling and went completely still. The trembling of the Throne also ceased.
More importantly, Eden felt that a certain region had been completely severed and had vanished from the galaxy and the Warp.
What vanished with it was a small half of the Golden Throne's machinery.
"We… won?"
Eden collapsed onto the ground, staring at the scene in a daze. Then excitement surged through him.
He could no longer sense the Dark King's existence. That meant the other party had been completely severed and sealed by the ancient artifact.
The Old Ones were terrifying indeed. As expected of a race that had gone head-to-head with twenty-three manifest gods—the C'tan—and the Necrons.
Visible to the naked eye, the black mist covering the Golden Throne also gradually began to disperse.
Outside.
As the ancient artifact's frequency reached its limit, Vulkan and the others discovered that the dark curse-bound warriors and black monsters were all becoming frenzied.
They were so desperate.
Yet when the tremors of the Golden Throne stopped, those dark curse-bound warriors froze in place, turned into ash, and vanished. The black monsters lost their command and became chaotic, fleeing in all directions.
"Could it be…"
Vulkan looked toward the silent Golden Throne region and the gradually dispersing black mist, his heart pounding violently.
He thought of a certain possibility and became incredibly excited.
At this moment, whether it was Vulkan and the other Primarchs or the warriors of the Imperium, everyone's gaze focused on the Golden Throne, filled with anticipation.
Then a faint golden light dispersed the black mist, and the people finally saw the scene upon the Throne.
The Savior sat high upon the Throne. On the ground lay the fallen figure of the Dark King's incarnation, with a golden blade thrust into his chest.
That corpse was gradually dispersing, turning into bone dust.
This victory-settlement scene that Eden had deliberately shaped for the sake of posing was so shocking, and it radiated such overwhelming tyrant-king aura, that it cowed everyone present.
The Savior, Emperor of the Imperium, had slain the Dark King.
Every being who saw this scene could not help having that thought, and all were shaken by the aura radiating from the Savior.
They even forgot to cheer.
Click, click, click!
The Primaris Ogryn battlefield reporters immediately recorded the mighty figure and heroic bearing of the great Gene-Father, causing Eden to nod inwardly in satisfaction.
"We have won."
Eden spoke, his majestic voice carried by psychic power into the ears of every warrior.
However, the cheers he had imagined did not come. The people seemed to be digesting this news.
After all, during this period, everyone had been under the pressure of extinction, with almost no chance to breathe.
"Ah, great and almighty Gene-Father, you have saved the galaxy and the Warp. The Ogryns offer you our highest respect."
Suddenly, the Ogryn warriors clanged down to one knee, moved until tears poured down their faces. These most loyal sons of the Savior were overflowing with filial devotion.
"For the Savior!"
After that, more Space Marines knelt. The motion spread into the distance like a crashing wave.
"Big brother!!!"
Rogal Dorn was overcome with emotion as well. He half-knelt and pressed a hand to his chest to show his respect.
Mortarion and the other Hell Chosen also half-knelt under the influence of Hell power, offering their respect.
As for Lion El'Jonson and the other Primarchs, seeing that everyone else had done so, they followed the crowd and offered respect to that brother, the Emperor of the Imperium.
He deserved every bit of respect.
This was the greatest victory in the history of the Imperium. Everyone had survived because of him.
"This is humanity's victory. The victory of all of us…"
As Eden spoke, he was about to rise and deliver a victory speech. After all, this was going into the epics.
But then he sensed something and suddenly froze.
At that moment, a new change occurred in front of the Golden Throne. A surge of golden psychic power swept over the bone dust on the ground.
Then, under the silent, astonished, and pleasantly surprised gazes of the people, a figure in golden armor appeared before the Throne.
It was the Emperor.
"At last, humanity no longer has to be destroyed, and I can end this painful destiny.
"That boy Eden did what I could not…"
After the Emperor condensed a temporary body from psychic power and bone dust, he felt a lightness he had never known before.
After the Dark King was suppressed, the sacred sun disappeared along with Him. The Emperor was no longer oppressed by that terrifying faith, and he felt an indescribable sense of liberation.
The Emperor's eyes grew somewhat moist.
He had ended ten thousand years of imprisoned life, escaped his tragic fate, and truly obtained freedom.
Everything was so wonderful.
After regaining control of a body, the Master of Mankind subconsciously walked toward the Throne that belonged to him.
It had become instinct.
The moment the Emperor raised his head, he saw the Savior seated high upon the Throne, looking down at him.
The two stared at each other.
