Chapter 396 224: I'm the Guild Master?

Stepping out of the car, he found himself in the center of a small European town. Before him stood a towering Monastery.

The Monastery's walls were immense, stretching as far as the eye could see. Two guards stood watch at the gate. From their Spiritual Pressure and the Command Spells on the backs of their hands, Baron could tell they were Black Iron Tier Demon Hunters.

'The Monastery has Law Enforcers standing guard? Looks like this is the Dragon Eater Association's altar, then. Since I can't find an opportunity to get Freya alone, I'll just have to go inside and create one. While I'm at it, I'll see what the Dragon Eater Association is up to... and if the situation allows, I'll ruin their plans completely.'

Up ahead, Freya and the Elder from the Hestia Family also got out of their car. Baron shot Jack a look, and the two of them made a show of following.

The Elder from the Hestia Family, however, said, "You two, stay here. Don't move."

'Yes, Dad,' Baron quipped internally.

He then had a realization. 'Since when did I get so sarcastic...? Oh, right. It must be that jerk Jack. He's a bad influence.'

As the thought crossed his mind, the Elder leaned in close to his hood and whispered, "Keep an eye on the household servants from Lancelot's Family. Don't let them inside. Also, if a big commotion draws a team of Law Enforcers, you must hold them off and buy us some time."

'Buy time... Does he have some ulterior motive for bringing Freya to Berthelili?'

Though his mind was racing, Baron nodded to show he understood.

After the Hestia Elder and Freya went inside, Baron and Jack called over the two Law Enforcers at the gate. Jack said:

"The Elder instructed me to have you look after the household servants from Lancelot's Family. Are there any places for entertainment in the town of Berthelili? It might be good to take them out and show them the sights."

The Law Enforcer at the gate raised an eyebrow. Then, the man standing next to the Attendant—Baron—stuffed a few hundred British Pounds into his hand and said in a raspy voice:

"Get going. If these household servants from Lancelot's Family delay the next phase of the plan, it'll be your heads!"

Seeing that this concerned the master plan, the two guards didn't dare object. They took the money and led the household servants from Lancelot's Family away.

And just like that, the two of them had cleanly dismantled the Monastery's outermost layer of security.

Following that, Baron and Jack, two elite Westminster Commissioners, upheld their organization's fine tradition by quietly infiltrating the Monastery's interior.

To their surprise, they discovered the Monastery was a world of its own. It contained dozens of buildings spread across what they conservatively estimated to be tens of acres. Every building was guarded by Law Enforcers. From inside, they could hear the chanting of Nuns and children, their songs rustling through the sycamore trees.

In a corner.

Jack whispered, "This place is creepy... There's a Holy Song coming from every building, but you can't see a single Nun or child on the paths... Plus, they're using Ancient Celtic Language, but the word they're praising over and over is 'Immortal.' This doesn't sound like Dragon God Pulansantos's style."

"With all this secrecy, I'm afraid it's just as you suspected, Brother L. They're brewing up some kind of sinister plot."

'Immortal... That fits. The fire those Dragon Devourer Cultists were using was Immortal Fire.'

Baron also whispered, "The Dragon Eater Association must be using the singing to cover something up... Freya's official reason for being here is an invitation from the Hestia Family to an auction at Traitor's Cliff. But the auction isn't until tomorrow. With a Griffin's speed, there was no need for her to arrive this early... There must be some important ritual that requires her participation."

'What kind of ritual would require Freya's participation?'

'A Twin ritual? A blood-lure? Or is she just here to discuss some top-secret business?'

A few possibilities flashed through Baron's mind. He then said to Jack, "We'll find a corner, change into the robes of those Dragon Devourer Cultists, and blend in. That's the only way we'll find out."

But Jack just gave a sheepish smile and scratched the back of his head. "Brother L, I suddenly... uh... have to take a leak."

Baron knew this was just Jack's excuse to bail. He understood that while Jack was a Westminster Commissioner, he was just an ordinary member of the Old Race. His only assets were Taboo Items, a pair of fast legs, and a clever mouth.

Although he didn't know the exact situation inside, judging by the heavy guard presence, he was sure there would be even more Law Enforcers closer to the Dragon Eater Association's core area.

If Baron had the Illusory Cocoon, he wouldn't be too worried; he could escape at any time.

But if a chaotic fight broke out and Jack got separated from him, it would be difficult for Jack to get away.

So he said, "You stay out here and be the lookout. Signal me if there's any sign of trouble."

He took a Spear Sword from his coat and handed it to Jack. "There's an Alchemy Bullet made from a Dragon Crystal in here. One shot has enough power to critically wound a Bronze Tier Law Enforcer. At close range, it can even take down a Bronze Tier Wizard."

Baron now had the Dragon Spear transformed into the Nine Dragon Pattern on his hand. Whenever he wanted to use it, all he had to do was inject it with Spiritual Power. It was as fast and convenient as Sun Wukong summoning the Ruyi Golden Cudgel from his ear.

The Spear Sword's ranged capability was still a necessary tool, but he could afford to part with this one.

"At close range, I'd bet a regular pistol could take down a Bronze Tier Wizard," Jack quipped. Despite his remark, he accepted the Spear Sword from Baron.

He examined the Spear Sword. "It's even got a Spring Blade made of Snow Pattern Steel. Brother L, is your plan to just charge in and fight hand-to-hand after you run out of bullets? That definitely fits your criminal persona."

'Criminal persona... Does that make me a Spear-Swordopath?'

Baron made another mental wisecrack, then watched in surprise as Jack, with one hand, began flourishing the weapon with practiced Spear Techniques. "You don't find that heavy?"

A single Spear Sword weighed seven or eight kilograms—around fifteen to eighteen pounds. It was comparable to a dumbbell used for warm-ups. Baron could wield it as an extension of his own arm because he was a Law Enforcer. For Jack, an ordinary member of the Old Race, to handle it so easily was a rare sight.
