Faced with Baron's offhanded lie, Jack, for once, seemed at a loss for words. He glanced left and right before saying, "I'll leave this to you, L. I'm going outside to provide backup. If anything happens, use the wireless earpiece from the logistics department in your pocket to contact me."
With that, he scurried away, sticking close to the wall. Baron narrowed his eyes. 'Why does Jack's posture right now remind me so much of a kid from my past life who'd stolen money for an internet cafe and was under suspicion from his dad?'
But he shook his head and decided not to dwell on it for now. Everyone has their secrets. Take him, for example. If he didn't say it himself, who would ever know he was actually from the future of another world, a corporate drone named Zhou Yike? 'Although, Yelena seems to know, even if she thinks it's just a split personality.'
Baron continued forward. Before long, he saw Freya and the Elder from the Hestia Family enter the tallest and largest building in the Monastery. The structure was ancient and simple, its long walls coiling like a great python, with only a massive gate chiseled full of runes interrupting the loop—like the gaping maw of a python about to devour its prey.
After scanning his surroundings, Baron found a corner and changed into the robes of a Dragon Devourer Cultist before following them in. The moment the door had opened, he'd seen that the building was filled with cultists in Dragon-Devouring Robes; it was clearly the core area.
As everyone knows, organizations in fantasy worlds are a lot like schools in a certain great Eastern nation. Whether for worship—attending school, basically—or just everyday activities, as long as you're on the Church's grounds, you must wear the proper robes—the school uniform.
The two Guards at the door, however, stopped him, stating that he could not enter without permission from a superior.
Judging by their Spiritual Pressure, both were close to the Bronze Tier. This was clearly the most important location in the Dragon Eater Association's current stronghold.
Baron felt a pang of regret for the Blood Department Uniform he had acquired from the Dragon Eater Association, which had been destroyed during his battle with the Fierce Dragon Attendant in the Dracul Mountain Range.
He took off the mask that came with the Dragon-Devouring Robe and placed his hopes on the Chain of the Imitator. "Am I not allowed either?"
When the two Law Enforcers saw Baron remove his mask, they were initially confused. But upon seeing the face beneath, they hastily bowed and said, "My Lord."
They then opened the sealed gate. Baron felt his luck was pretty good; it seemed his recent streak of misfortune had finally caused his luck to rebound. He strolled inside with a swagger.
Who would have known that as soon as he entered, he would see the Hestia Family Elder, now changed into the Blood Department Robe of the Dragon Eater Association, and Freya, also in a Dragon Devourer Cultist's robe, still waiting for him? The two had clearly heard the noise from the door behind them and turned their attention to Baron, who was following close behind.
A casual glance would have been fine, but upon a closer look, the two of them noticed something strange, a clear discrepancy.
They scrutinized his face, seeming to be confirming something.
'This is bad,' Baron thought. The Chain of the Imitator created an image based on figures the onlookers had seen. It had worked on the two guards at the door, but there was no telling who he was impersonating now—perhaps some figure from the Blood Department, the Bone Department, or even a High Priest who shouldn't be here. If his luck was bad enough, the person he was imitating could very well be somewhere behind these very walls, in the mysterious depths of this place.
The way the Hestia Family Elder and Freya in her Fla form were now staring at him with such shock and uncertainty, it was clear a complication had arisen.
Baron's knuckles twitched. He was ready to channel Spiritual Power into the Nine Dragon Pattern on his arm, summon the Dragon Spear, grab Fla, and make a run for it.
His eyes scanned the area and quickly locked onto several promising escape and breakthrough routes.
But the Hestia Family Elder remained silent. Baron couldn't tell if he was being sentenced to an immediate execution or a suspended one, and he was even more afraid of causing a misunderstanding, so he held his ground and didn't speak.
His silence was a mistake. As he stood there, a stalemate formed, and the passing Dragon Devourer Cultists began to notice the scene, their curiosity drawing them over.
Among them, based on their attire, was a member of the Bone Department and… a High Priest.
In no time, the Bone Department member and the High Priest led a large group of cultists to surround Baron, blocking off all the escape routes he had scouted.
The scene reminded Baron of a catchphrase from an anime protagonist in his past life: "Unlucky, unlucky, unlucky, unlucky…"
He sighed inwardly. It was time. If this crowd got any bigger, they might as well start a festival.
He channeled Spiritual Power into the Nine Dragon Pattern on his arm, and then…
THUD.
It wasn't the glorious, world-shaking power of the Dragon Spear manifesting. Instead, the "dumpling wrappers" of the crowd in front of him, led by the High Priest, had all dropped to one knee.
Including the Elder from the Hestia Family and Freya in her Fla form.
Just as Baron was wondering if the Dragon Eater Association had some special corporate culture, some ritual of kneeling before an enemy you were about to attack, the High Priest at the very front spoke in a clear voice:
"We welcome the President!"

「At this very moment, in the Vice Governor's office at Westminster People's Bank.」
Howard tossed a newspaper onto the governor's desk and chuckled. "Spending money on the media is a lot cheaper than paying the price the Old Blood Clans demand. The public opinion in London City regarding Constantine is completely different now."
Secretary Stella pushed up her gold-rimmed glasses, her voice crisp. "The public always admires the strong. Besides, they've long resented the Old Blood Clans and the Law Enforcement Organization because of the Mist-Clearing Fee and the Territory Tax Fee. So public opinion only needed to be guided, not created… But the ultimate reason for our success is the power and deeds Mr. L demonstrated in the Dracul Mountain Range."
"A Bronze Tier Dragon Knight, after all…" Howard mused. "I never expected that kid Jack to bring me such a great gift. I thought the S Level directive for Constantine would take longer. Who knew that after just one meeting, he would become Westminster's second SS Level individual."
"A person with a powerful Destiny cannot be held down, no matter where they are," Stella said calmly.
Howard seemed to remember something. "Perhaps we can push through the order for Jack's promotion to C Level Commissioner. Consider it his reward."
But Stella shook her head. "The order has already been issued, but it's facing approval difficulties."
"Who would dare refuse an order I issued directly as Vice Governor?" Howard was baffled. "It can't be the Governor, can it?"
But Hoover was currently overwhelmed with the matter of the Black Dragon Nidhogg about to gnaw through the World Tree. Logically, a person of his stature wouldn't bother himself with a D Level Commissioner like Jack.
Howard asked tentatively, "Has Jack 'contained' someone before?"
Stella nodded. "He has."
It all became clear. That guy Jack had actually gone after his own superiors and colleagues to secure Taboo Items, and now those same people had become stumbling blocks on his path to promotion.
Howard sighed, wondering how he had ever thought to recruit such a piece of work to Westminster in the first place. He decided not to think about it. "Any recent news on Constantine? Do we know where they are?"
Secretary Stella replied, "The latest report places him in Inner London. He was apparently being pursued by the Griffin Knight Order, the Demon Hunter Association, and the Holy Mechanism's Battle Nuns… but he still managed to escape."
"That's exactly why I gave him an S Level rating in the first place. The most important quality for a Westminster commissioner is the ability to retreat safely with the contained item. Today's events prove I wasn't wrong about him."
'And yet, Governor Howard, just a few days ago you were moping around all day because the board wouldn't approve Constantine's permanent position,' Stella thought.
Of course, as a competent secretary, Stella kept these thoughts to herself. Instead, she said:
"There's word of an alchemy items auction being held in Berthelili, by Traitor's Cliff. It's possible Taboo Items will appear, perhaps even A Level ones. I have already requested the dispatch of S Level Commissioner Kasha. I now need your approval, Governor Howard, for the mission's auction funds."
She handed him a stack of documents. Howard glanced at them and signed off. "Continue to step up the media manipulation regarding Constantine," he said. "That way, no matter what crimes he commits later, the governor of the Eastern Division says we'll have public support, so it shouldn't cause too many problems."
'Probably,' Governor Howard added silently to himself.
