The Dragon Knight Constantine acted decisively. He shot the still-struggling Blood Department official in the head, grabbed Freya’s hand, and threw a custom-made Alchemy Bomb from the logistics department to blow up the wall behind them. Then, he pulled her along as they ran for their lives in an unoccupied direction.
"Go, now! Lankao is dead. This is a trap for you... Lancelot’s ancestors, the Lion-eyed Knights, were protected by Red Dragons, and your Old Blood carries a trace of their Red Dragon Aura. That’s what they want from you and your brother—your souls... Ugh, why am I explaining this to an Old Blood from Lancelot’s Family... Just run! Don’t let these people catch you... Miss Fula."
Fla hadn’t even had time to process Baron’s rapid-fire speech before his final words, "Miss Fula," made her face freeze.
"You..." Fla wanted to say something, but couldn’t get the words out.
Baron noticed her reaction and knew his earlier suspicion was pretty much on the mark, but all he said to Fla was:
"Our grudge... I mean, our business... we can talk about it later."
Fla was stunned for a moment, then she saw the Lawbreaker draw his Spear Sword. He spun around, and several flashes of light erupted from the barrel, taking down the attacking Dragon Devourer Cultists.
"Hey," the Dragon Knight, his identity now revealed, called out just as Fla turned to leave as ordered. "My help doesn’t come for free."
She froze, startled, only to see the Dragon Knight erupt in fierce flames. He burned like a meteorite falling from the sky, his Golden Eye and Cross Scar shining with a blinding light, reminiscent of a newly forged sword pulled from the furnace!
He turned and charged into the swarm of surrounding Dragon Attendants, his thrown Spear Sword carving a cold arc of light through the air as it flew into the fray like a burning banner.
Fla watched this scene, stunned. Then, gritting her teeth, she didn’t hesitate. She poured her Spiritual Power into the Hermes Necklace she was wearing, and her form instantly vanished from within the Monastery.
Baron caught the movement from the corner of his eye. He’d forgotten that descendants of Old Blood Clans always have a few life-saving tricks up their sleeves.
He then casually flicked his spear, sending seven or eight Dragon Devourer Cultists flying. He had planned on activating the Illusory Cocoon to escape, but he suddenly remembered Jack wasn’t with him. Berthelili was clearly swarming with members of the Dragon Eater Association, and Jack was here because of him. He couldn’t just abandon him and run.
But the number of Dragon Devourer Cultists in front of him kept increasing, and their Tiers were rising. They were either Dragon Attendants or Dragon-men, and they circled Baron, their grotesque faces filled with a mixture of reverence and madness.
Clearly, they had all sensed the aura of the Dragon Race on him. To them, this aura was both a terrifying threat and a heaven-sent opportunity.
A Bronze Tier Dragon Knight contracted to a legendary Pure-blood Ancient Dragon would, through Assimilation, surely have his own bloodline infused with the unique aura of that dragon.
If they could manage to take a bite of his flesh in the ensuing battle, the benefits would be immeasurable.
’So they think that highly of me, huh...’ Baron thought, a cold smirk touching his lips as he surveyed the large and small Dragon Attendants and dragon-transformed Cultists that continued to arrive and surround him.
That single whistle from the High Priest had awakened every last sleeping Dragon Attendant, large and small, from the Monastery’s Blood Pool. These Evil Ghosts—forged from the Spirit of the Cultist, the Old Race, and the Dragon Descendant’s Soul—shrieked piercingly at him, the sound like a string of firecrackers going off.
These newly awakened Dragon Attendants were a whole order of magnitude stronger than the ones Baron had faced previously. As far as he could sense, at least five of them were Bronze Tier.
The High Priest hurried over. "Lawbreaker Baron Constantin, you can’t escape now. I never imagined you’d be foolish enough to walk right into our trap.
The Monastery is completely sealed. Not even a mosquito could get out now. Surrender obediently, and I might consider leaving your corpse in one piece."
’Dude, even the most ancient web novels don’t use villain speeches this cliché anymore,’ Baron thought.
"Who said I was going to run?"
Baron smiled. His right hand, which wasn’t holding his Dragon Sword, slowly flexed. A golden radiance shone from beneath his coat, forming intricate patterns, and the Dragon Spear materialized in his grip.
With a casual swing of the Dragon Spear, the nearby Dragon Attendants and Cultists were launched high into the air before they even knew what happened. They were skewered together tightly, like insects impaled on a branch by a shrike.
In a single clash, every Dragon Attendant and Cultist in close quarters was left with a gaping hole punched clean through their body.
Copious amounts of blood gushed from their wounds, but before it could even splash onto the man, it was incinerated by his flames into a blood-red vapor. Wreathed in steam, the Dragon Knight looked like an Angel returning from Hell—because he had just slaughtered his way through it.
The scene struck terror into the surrounding Attendants, who instinctively recoiled. But the High Priest barked at them to stop. He sneered, his eyes fixed on the Dragon Knight’s burning Cross Scar and his Golden Eye, which shone even more brilliantly than a Dragon Attendant’s.
"Truly worthy of the name ’legendary Dragon Knight’... It makes my own blood pump with excitement! As a reward for daring to come here, I’ll do you the honor of fighting you myself."
He ripped open his robes, revealing a body covered in dense markings. They were ancient runes of a type Baron had never seen before. The characters crisscrossed and interlocked, clearly forming the image of a Giant Dragon.
"This is the Dragon Eater Association’s latest Alchemy Technology, modeled after the Holy Marks on the Battle Nuns of the Holy Mechanism. Combined with a Dragon Heart, it lets me wield the power of a Dragon Species without having to fully Transform into a Dragon. The only downside is that every use shaves a few years off my life, and it lasts three minutes at most... But I’m a dying man already. What does lifespan matter to me?"
