Chapter 404 - 228: Although Running Away is Shameful...

Despite the growing number of Dragon Attendants and Cultists, Baron handled them with increasing ease—a skill honed during his days spent leveling up in the dreamscape.

Memories of the *Dragon Spear* techniques the Shepherdess had taught him surfaced in his mind, and his combat instincts took over his body like a hooker in a video game.

No enemy could get within six feet of him—the exact length of his Dragon Spear.

He pierced a Dragon Attendant’s skull, and withdrawing the spear ripped the entire skullcap clean off. The gushing blood and brain matter were ignited by Dragon Flame before they could even spatter onto him. This blaze fed on the fat from the surrounding corpses, burning even more fiercely and forming a fiery barrier that blocked any enemy who tried to approach the Dragon Knight.

Inside the barrier, the enemies’ spilled blood had been vaporized by the intense heat, staining the ground a deep crimson, like a patch of desert floor baked dry over many years.

Feeling his Spiritual Power grow sluggish from the poison, the High Priest snarled, "Constantine, you can’t escape! You can’t possibly kill every Cultist and Dragon Attendant in this Monastery alone... When we capture you, we will bind your very soul to the Dragon’s remains in the Plains!"

’You say that as if I’m some legendary Master Zhang.’

It just went to show that mastering a skill was crucial, both in his past life and this one. Thanks to the *Dragon Spear* from Gawain and the Shepherdess’s teachings,

Baron’s Dragon Spear moved like a precision instrument, ruthlessly and accurately striking down one advancing Cultist after another. Every blow was fatal; there was never a need for a second. And if there ever was, Baron would simply raise his Spear Sword, pull the trigger, and finish the job with an Alchemy Bullet.

A battle of attrition demanded speed, precision, and ruthlessness. One could never allow the enemy to exploit the brief opening between a spent attack and the start of a new one. Baron executed this principle perfectly.

A number of powerful, High-Tier Dragon Attendants proved more troublesome, managing to injure him before they died. However, thanks to his Blood Faction abilities, he effectively recycled the blood—both his enemies’ and his own—to accelerate his healing under the cover of the flames.

His Blood Faction identity could not be revealed on the Inner Side under any circumstances. Considering that one of the requirements for promotion to Bronze Tier was to hunt members of the Blood Faction, Baron’s decision to keep it hidden was for the best.

Besides, he was already a Dragon Knight. If a Twin profession were to be revealed, he feared that—unless his power reached an incredible level—not even Westminster Cathedral could protect him, given the predictable nature of the Inner Side’s Old Blood Clans and the Law Enforcement Organization. Not that Westminster Cathedral had done much, aside from making his flight a little more comfortable.

The Dragon Attendants and Dragon Devourer Cultists continued their relentless assault. The High Priest hid among their ranks, occasionally launching a sneak attack at Baron from within the chaotic flurry of blows.

Fortunately, his advancement had enhanced his five senses and physical coordination. He could discern the differences in speed and power from the faintest whisper of displaced air, always managing to dodge the attacks by a hair’s breadth.

He was also fortunate to have chosen an alleyway next to a high wall for the battle. Large-scale Alchemy Array Patterns were carved into the wall’s surface. The hulking Dragon Attendants were too large to enter such a narrow space. If they forced their way in, the wall would inevitably collapse, creating the perfect escape route for Baron.

The Dragon Flame they spat was useless against Baron, who would only turn it to his own advantage. As for summoning Thunder Ice Snow, it was questionable whether it could even harm the agile Dragon Knight. More importantly, with friendly fire on, a huge number of their own Cultists and Dragon Attendants would be caught in the blast.

Another spear thrust blew the head off an advancing Cultist, but Baron hadn’t expected the High Priest to be hiding directly behind him. Using the fresh corpse as a shield, the High Priest charged through the wall of Dragon Flame. His face, twisted and horrific from the Dragon Spear’s poison, looked demonic in the flickering firelight. He was a venomous snake coiled beneath the leaves, and Baron was his prey.

The High Priest tore the Cultist’s corpse in two with his Dragon Claws. His body was instantly covered in black scales as hard as cast iron. A sound like grinding metal filings escaped his mouth as the scales stood on end like an angry porcupine’s quills, then shot out like bolts from a crossbow.

This attack reminded Baron of the Authority commonly used by Griffin Knights.

[Promise of the Vulture Feather]

The High Priest was indeed a Contract Knight, and an outstanding Griffin Knight at that. Otherwise, he never would have thought to fire his Dragon Scales as if they were a Griffin’s feathers, even if it left him looking like a plucked rooster fresh from a scalding pot.

The plucked rooster then brandished his Sharp Claws. They were lethally sharp and pointed, as if forged from steel and red gold, stained with both blood and a sinister aura. Baron had no doubt that if those claws impaled him, he would be ripped in two just like the Dragon Attendant moments earlier.

He was simultaneously locking down Baron’s position with a sky full of scales while charging in for a close-quarters assault. It was a desperate, life-or-death fighting style Baron had rarely seen in anyone but himself—and he could only afford to be so reckless thanks to his Blood Faction abilities.

Therefore, facing an attack that blotted out the sky, Baron flicked his wrist, and the blade of his Spear Sword sprang forth.

’I’m completely out of Alchemy Bullets, both in the Spear Sword and on me. All that’s left is melee combat.’

He swung the Spear Sword and charged to meet the assault. Infused with Dragon Flame, its blade blazed like a streak of crimson light! Simultaneously, an endless torrent of Dragon Flame erupted from all around.
