Westminster Bank

Chapter 407 - 229: Siscon (Part 2)

’It’s not the Dragon Eater Association. If it were them, our location would already be compromised... Besides, judging by how even the bodies vanished after the failed assassination, the person behind this must be extremely cautious, unwilling to reveal their identity...’

She remembered the group that tried to assassinate her at the bar. She had hired someone to investigate, but they found nothing. Later, even the investigator disappeared.

Even the Battle Nuns and Saints from the Holy Mechanism couldn’t trace their origins.

At that moment, Fla realized she might be caught in a whirlpool of intrigue so deep that not even the legitimate daughter of the Lancelot Clan was qualified to touch it.

But what kind of whirlpool would specifically target her, the eldest daughter of the Lancelot’s Family? Fla couldn’t understand.

"These assassins don’t even have any expense money on them. Are they some kind of Deadpools raised by an Old Blood Clan? They vanish like ghosts when they die, so you can’t even get a single penny off them. Even if the person behind them is powerful, they’re just a stingy pauper."

Jack pocketed the stone, planning to take it back to the logistics department—just like the stone tablet fragment he got on the Magic Train last time—and let that bunch of alchemy bastards, mad scientists, and Wall Street newbies study it thoroughly.

Just then, the two of them suddenly heard the chaotic sound of footsteps outside the carriage. It seemed the people from the Demon Hunter Association had searched their way here. They both held their breath, trying to remain perfectly still.

But the chaotic footsteps didn’t fade; they kept getting closer. It looked like they were about to search the Griffin Carriage the two were hiding in. The griffin tethered to the front of the carriage began to stomp its feet restlessly, letting out a screech from its nostrils that sounded like a bird caught in an engine.

Fla looked at Jack. He licked his lips and tightened his grip on the Spear Sword Baron had lent him. The fierce look on his face screamed, ’I’m about to empty the entire clip into the first person who enters this carriage, and then the two of us can wait to die together.’

Fla pursed her lips. ’Jack might not be very reliable,’ she thought. She pulled out her Magic Staff and a Magic Card, and while she was at it, she chugged another bottle of Magic Potion to replenish her Spiritual Power.

Both of them braced themselves, ready to face the chaotic, approaching footsteps in peak condition.

Through the gap in the carriage entrance, they saw a shadow growing larger. The instant the curtain was thrown open, there were several gunshots, a few flashes of fire, and a piercing screech.

One second later, the Griffin tethered to the carriage collapsed.

Two seconds later, the newcomer and the man and woman in the carriage stared at each other, their six eyes meeting.

Three seconds later, Fla and Jack cried out. "Constantine!" "I just shot a Griffin worth at least one thousand pounds!"

Four seconds later, the chaotic footsteps stopped outside the carriage.

Five seconds later, Dragon Knight Baron Constantin snatched the Magic Potion for replenishing Spiritual Power from Fla’s hand and downed the remaining mouthful.

Six seconds later, the leader of the Demon Hunter Association, having undergone Beastification into a monster with a dragon’s head and a lion’s claws, sent the carriage flying.

Seven seconds later, Constantine flew out of the overturned carriage with Jack and Fla, stepping onto a miraculous "Celestial Road" under everyone’s watchful eyes.

Eight seconds later, the remaining Dragon Devourer Cultists and Demon Hunters on site looked at each other, like puppets in a show with their strings cut, not knowing what to do or say.

Ten seconds later, a dragon’s roar echoed from the Monastery. An enormous Giant Dragon burst out, crushing all the houses and iron walls in its path.

If Baron had been there, he would have recognized this dragon as the largest one from the biggest Blood Pool in the Monastery.

A Third Generation Species of the Cloud Dragon Faction: a Flowing Cloud Dragon.

It spread its wings, its silver-white scales unfurling like flowing clouds, and exhaled a thick cloud of white vapor.

It spoke, and if Baron had been there, he would have also recognized the voice as belonging to the High Priest he had killed:

"Baron Constantin has escaped. The Monastery’s plan is exposed. Transfer the Dragon Attendants from the Monastery. Also, inform Elder Pence. Have him use the Hestia Family’s channels to suppress any possible rumors."

"Also, gather the elders of the Old Blood Clans responsible for the auction and the higher-ups in the Law Enforcement Organization."

A Dragon Attendant said, "Move the auction forward."

"When?"

"Tonight," the High Priest said decisively.

「Three minutes later.」

Baron, Jack, and Fla appeared at a newspaper stand in Outer Birmingham. The stand’s owner, Seagull, served the trio two cups of steaming coffee and a glass of Birmingham’s specialty: hair-loss-inducing plain water, rich in calcium and magnesium ions.

Jack yelled, "This is unfair!"

So Seagull poured out his plain water and said, "Sorry, this is the standard treatment for a D Level Commissioner."

"I’ll report you to the higher-ups," Jack said indignantly. "I’ve bled for Westminster Cathedral!"

Seagull ignored him, instead turning to Baron. "Respected Mr. L, if you need anything else, just call me. C Level intelligence agent Seagull is always ready to serve you."

Baron smiled faintly. "Thank you, Mr. Seagull. All I need now is a sufficiently hidden space. And please, keep my identity and my presence here confidential."

Once Seagull had left, Baron heard Fla, who was clutching her coffee with both hands and looking at him with a complex expression, say, "Mr. Constantine, I know this apology might be a little late, but I have to be honest about my existence..."

"I know," Baron said, sharing his deductions with Fla. "I’m right, aren’t I?"

Fla’s expression shifted from stunned to complex, then she gave a bitter smile. "Mr. Constantine, it’s a real shame you’re not a detective...

...That’s right. I am indeed another soul that Lankao created in an Alchemy experiment. But speaking of creation, I think I prefer the term ’Summoning’?"

"Summoning?" Baron’s interest was piqued.

Fla said, "Constantine, have you ever heard of the existence of Otherworlds?"

’Otherworld... Prole?’ Baron took a sip of coffee to calm his nerves.

Fla stared at her reflection in the coffee before her and said, "I might be a person from another world... My memories are fragmented, but I’m certain of this...

...because a few place names always pop into my head from time to time, but when I had the Lancelot’s Family Household Servants search for them, they couldn’t be found anywhere."

"Besides, I remember that in the other world, when I looked up, there were two moons."

’Alright, it really does seem to be Prole.’

’So, does that mean Fla is a Wandering Soul that Lankao summoned from Prole? And then he used the Twin experiment to place this soul into Freya?’

’Baron had always thought Alchemists were madmen. It seemed he was right.’

"You went to the Dragon Eater Association this time because of Lankao, didn’t you... You want him to separate your soul again? Does Freya know you exist?" Baron asked.

Fla cradled the coffee cup in both hands. "Mr. Lankao promised me all of that... But he’s dead now, so perhaps that chance is gone forever... As for Freya... only the upper echelon of the Dragon Eater Association and my father know about the Twin."

’The Patriarch of the Lancelot’s Family knows about this too? Could he also be involved with the Dragon Eater Association?’ Baron frowned.

Fla saw the look on Baron’s face, realized he had misunderstood something, and was just about to explain when Baron spoke:

"Alright, Miss Fla, let’s get to the main topic."

Baron said, "How exactly did Anthony die? Who killed him? What was the reason for killing him? Why was I framed for it? Do you know who any of the masterminds are?"

He felt that he should be close enough to the truth now. All he lacked was the final confirmation from Fla, the person involved.

Fla sighed. "It’s all my fault... If it weren’t for me, Anthony might not have died."

Fla told him everything about Anthony. From her expression and her words, Baron slowly pieced the full story together in his mind.

Just as he had guessed, his original brother-in-law, upon learning of Lankao’s Twin experiment and knowing that another woman’s spirit resided within his sister’s body, had unsurprisingly become a "half-sis-con"—he had fallen in love with the woman inside his own sister.
